Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox
NorthSideSox72 replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
OK, OK, I've got it all figured out. Cabrera will get traded next, for a pitcher. Konerko will be moved to Shortstop, where his offensive numbers won't look as bad. Dye to 1B. Griffey in RF. -

QUOTE (quickman @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) nice... just what I expected. Drop it. Drop the arguing, and drop getting on people because they are having fun with the topic. -
Ken Griffey Jr. + Cash to the White Sox

Well, Masset I could care less about. Richar, though, is a significant prospect, so that hurts a bit. This involves 1B somehow, I have to guess. So which scenario is it... --Griffey starts in CF, Swisher to 1B, Konerko to the bench? --Griffey platoons with Konerko and 1B and relieves the other OF's on occasion? --Griffey to RF and Dye to 1B, Konerko to bench? As for who they release, I have a feeling there might be another deal in the works that would answer the question. -

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) Jeff DaVanon. Nobody significant. OK. DaVanon is a 35 year old journeyman outfielder, so he has no trade value. Lucy's knee is wrecked and he's a catcher whose main value is in his defense, so, nothing there either. Jose Martinez may have some value as a low level prospect, though. -

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) I'm in El Paso, TX and they said on the local sports radio that Griffey has already agreed, but is pending a physical. 2 minor leaguers, one is a PTBNL. FWIW. PTBNL could be a signal that its someone on the DL. Are any of our minor league prospects on the DL right now? The only ones I know of are Jose Martinez and Donny Lucy. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) Well, baseball is filled with guys who have done it in the minors and could never translate that to MLB success. I'm not worried about Cunningham, like Rowand or Josh Reed, he's not a great fit for Comiskey...where you need outfielders who can consistently hit 25-35 homers. More of a 5th outfielder, I think, long-term. Carter could be great...but so could Brandon Allen. Who knows? That's why the minor leagues are so interesting...there are so many cases like Buehrle, Piazza, Pujols, Alexei Ramirez...where talent flies under the radar or is undervalued or underestimated. When did Alexei Ramirez play in the minors? -
Personalized bats are kinda cool. If they actually play baseball or softball, then get the useable bats that are personalized. That way, they can use it, or hang it, or whatever. We had sort of a travel theme for our wedding, so I gave all the groomsmen cufflinks that had a compass built into them. I told them they had no excuse for saying they couldn't find the place.

Have to say, I would be happy to see MJ decriminalized. THe gov't spends (wastes) a ton of money enforcing laws on a drug that is, in my view, clearly less harmful to society than either alcohol or cigarettes. It isn't a cancer engine like cigarettes, it doesn't create people that are a hazard to public safety nearly as often as alcohol would... this just makes too much sense. It won't happen, at least not yet.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) if you can buy weed at the store, it's going to be consumed more. no question. i see more of a situation where some one smokes a joint after work rather than drinks a 6 pack. and honestly i prefer stoners to drunks. Probably, but, I think part of the appeal of weed for younger folks is that its illegal.

This could be related to a move for Street that is supposedly in the works. -

There has got to be more going on than just prospect-for-Griffey. -
A hateable player going to the ultimate hateable team. Works out nicely. But I am kind of surprised the Tigers did this. I know they need pen help, but, I don't see Inge being an upgrade offensively. More of a downgrade, IMO. Trading I-Roid is almost a white flag move, except they got an old, mediocre reliver in return. Weird.

7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Taking these next 2 = successful road trip so far Fixed for you. We still have 3 in KC, and need to win one or two there, to call it a success, IMO. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Wes has again seemed to turn a corner, possibly the best starter we have in Charlotte, as far as success rate. 11 5 3.13 21 21 0 0 0 118.0 122 55 41 9 37 49 1.65 .265 Since we have heard of him having 6 or 7 different pitches, does anyone know what he's been using and how fast he's throwing and what not? I've been wondering about Wes too. Every indication, going into this year, was that he just wasn't a major league-potential pitcher. I had even suggested in this thread that maybe they need to put him back in the field. And yet, seemingly out of nowhere, the guy has pitched quite well this year in that band box in Charlotte. I can't figure it out. I'd also be curious to hear some first hand reports, or scouting info. His K numbers are low, but so are his walks, and he induces a lot of ground balls. He definitely looks like a pitch-to-contact guy, which jives with the reports of him not having great velocity. Before anyone goes and thinks LOOGY, he's actually doing better against righties than lefties. The guy is really kind of a mystery to me.

Not only is this a big game for the team, but, I think its a potentially defining moment for Gavin. A solid game here does a lot for his confidence, and the team's confidence in him. A pummelling by the Twinkies could spell a lot of trouble. Go out and get 'em, Gavin. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) I said last night that PK should get another start to see if he can build on his two good at-bats to end the game. I agree, I thought I saw a different approach the last couple at bats last night. I'd rather give him the rest of this series, then consider benching him. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) Things are getting scary with how depleted our lineup/rotation/bullpen appear. Liney, JC and Crede are injured, so there are those depletions. But Fields, Richard and Wassermann are not the worst replacements you could have, short term. I wouldn't say its scary, or terribly depleted, just yet. Now, if some or all of those three aren't back and healthy by early to mid August, then I worry about depletion.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) when Fineman says he's talked directly to one of the 3 and that person confirmed it's down to those 3, it's good enough for me. Not for me. Given the atmosphere around it, I think you don't really know until its announced. That said, I am really surprised how little discussion Richardson got for the job. To me, he fit the right pegs that Obama was missing, better than anyone else mentioned.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) Glad to see KW is sitting on his ass, while we piss the division down the drain. LOL Dude, you kill me. Another team, in another division, makes a deal that this organization doesn't have the bullets to make, and doesn't match well anyway. The Sox are in first place, despite the predictions of most (including you, I presume?) saying they'd be in 3rd at best. And this is your response? This isn't some video game. You can't just go pick a player you want and grab him.

PTC: Brian Anderson

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Why not put Aram 2nd?? 3 reasons come to mind. One, having Alexei behind Paulie means Paulie may see more fastballs, which may help him get out of his funk. Two, they want Anderson, who doesn't play much, to work on situational hitting. Three, I think they want to avoid putting Anderson and Fields next to each other in the lineup.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Swisher has a much better OBP but Juan also can play GG-level defense at a premium position. Swish is mediocre at best in CF, and we play in a small ballpark. I'd hate to see what he'd look like everyday in a large OF. So overall, I don't think it's a stretch at all to say Swisher has been basically Uribe. Swish has sucked, there's no other way around it. Swish and Uribe have nothing in common other than a low batting average. In every other way, career-wise and this year, they are just not remotely comparable.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Somewhat. Maybe more so for the people in the building next door. I deal more with rocks that melt than with rocks that break. Be sure to let us know when a volcano erupts under Los Angeles.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) it's a proven fact that sox fans love white guys with creative facial hair. I think you just solved Konerko's slump - he needs some goofy facial hair.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) Die. The correct answers are South Park and definitly Scrubs. Anyone who says Entourage isn't a guy. Don't get me wrong, I usually hate even slightly campy shows. But it's like trying to hate on the movie 300; if you do so, you better hand over you man-card. 300 was awful, and the one episode I saw of Entourage wasn't very good. And feel free to challenge me for my man card - would an armwrestling match suffice? I do agree on South Park though - it has its comedy gold moments, but overall, its just irritating.

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) I don't question Swishers effort or enthusiasm. I do wonder about Konerkos desire to win. Shouldn't he be at a boiling point? Shouldn't last night when he tagged the runner but was called safe have set him off? Can he stop crying after every out he makes. The difference between Konerko and Swish this year is passion. Have to disagree here. First, when the tag wasn't seen, he DID go off. Did you watch the game? Second, he's clearly very frustrated. I don't think anyone could miss that.
