  1. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) I have only seen one person say they want Lillibridge on the team. Others have said they think he'll make the team, but that's different. I want Lillibridge because I stopped having DirecTV in mid-August Seriously, though, the only thing he brings to the table is the ability to play multiple positions adequately and a single flash of decent hitting. I've had my eye on Milledge for years now, and I'd like to see if he can actualize his potential. He's so damn TOOLSY! Which I think is the opposite of grindy?
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) 2:05, whitesox.com and 670AM---Turn down Melton/turn up Farmer...lesser of two evils Pierre LF, Vizquel 2B, Dunn DH, Konerko 1B, Rios CF, Quentin RF, Pierzynski C, Ramirez SS, Teahen 3B Farmer's not evil, he's just grumpy
  3. I will never be comfortable saying "I love jackin' dayan!"
  4. a) Thornton deserves a shot. I know "deserves" is a weird word to use when the ultimate goal is to win, but I think the way you handle personnel issues like promotions speaks volumes about your club from a player's perspective. It's a dramatic enough front office, but if they handle things in a fair manner, people will still want to play here and still be motivated. b ) I don't know whether this is true or not, or whether it's in the plans, but it seems like Sale would have more of an opportunity for multi-inning outings if he's not relegated to the 9th. Might keep him more stretched out in the case of injury or for when he hits the rotation. PS this is all ceterus paribus; they're both fine options, so little details will sway the decision.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) He was going to start at AAA anyways, so Im not overly concerned. And 3-4 weeks isnt too bad, nothing you want him to miss but it's not close to as big as Mitchell. I'm just hoping it heals the way we want it to. Lots of players have had lingering issues with thumbs. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) At least we can stop hearing talk about dumping Teahen and breaking camp with DV. True. It's just a bad way to solve a good problem.
  6. Texas announcers saying that Viciedo has a fractured right thumb after getting hit by a pitch. I guess that solves that.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) Viciedo with another play at the plate. Announcers say that Viciedo did a good job charging the ball, made a good throw to home, and the ball beat the runner, but Lucy didn't apply the tag. Viciedo's out of the game, they must have meant De Aza
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Brian McCann hit Luis Salazar in the face with a foul ball. He has been airlifted to the hospital. Does anybody else find it insulting that the headline for this topic on MLB.com is: "McCann shaken, but relieved Salazar will be OK"?
  9. These Texas commercials are intolerable. The most notable was two people singing an excruciatingly sweet country-style duet about ice cream. I was waiting for the commercial's punchline, but it never came.
  10. Okay now he's up. They're not really saying how he looks so I assume he's okay.
  11. Viciedo hit in the hand by a pitch. Still down. No good.
  12. Teahen a triple away from a meaningless cycle. His bat's looked pretty good so far against the scrubs.
  13. Anybody have any opinions on the last bullpen spot based on how the spring has been unfolding thusfar? Too early? Probably. But is it ever really too early to speculate?
  14. Mike Napoli doubles in 2 runs, kevin cash singles him in, brandon hynick finds dwayne wade for a cryfest. word is theyre going to watch the notebook and eat bad chinese.
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) Lol, seriously? Are you listening to the game on the radio or something? It's online on the rangers broadcast
  16. Flowers singles into left. Ignores the stop sign on a Lillibridge double and gets caught in the rundown. Tagged out, inning over.
  17. Teahen homer, defender goes through the bullpen gate
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) A major league contract means he's immediately placed on the 40 man roster which means if he's going to be spending time in the minors for a few years you're going to burn through his options, some draft picks (Porcello, Andrew Miller) negotiate this into their first pro contract to get them to the majors and to free agency quicker. A minor league contract means he doesn't have to be placed on the 40 and can spend time in the minors without burning options, its far more beneficial to the club since they don't even have to think about putting the player on the 40 until they become rule V eligible 4 or 5 years down the line depending upon their age when signed. If you sign a player to a minor league contract at age 18 he could spend upwards of 8 years in the minors (7 years if he's 19+) without having to pass through waivers, if that same player is signed to a major league deal it's a max of 3 years. Gotcha. Good synopsis. I guess I didn't think about it in that light because he clearly needs to be on the 40 right now anyway.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) The Sox one is on tonight! 9pm Chicago time on MLB Network. Someone sum it up for us folks with no time, please!
  20. Just curious, since I clearly don't understand his contract status very well either: What's the point of signing him to a Major league contract vs. a minor league contract if both result in the same roster/team control conditions? Does it just sound nicer? Do we have to keep him on the 40 or something?
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) If Quentin has another "meh" year, he'll probably be non-tendered next winter. Viciedo then becomes our RF in 2012. But given that Viciedo is a FA after 2012, there's most likely some urgency to get him into the lineup this year. So it's quite possible that Quentin could be dealt mid-season, depending on how he does and how much of his remaining contract Kenny feels comfortable eating. Based on other posters on this board, I believe he is not a free agent after 2012 because once we bring him to the big club, the whole arbitration thing happens. Maybe I'm wrong about that synopsis. I think we have him under control for longer than that, though.
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 06:19 PM) But still, where did the lighter fluid come from?
  23. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) Why did the Sox allow Barry Zito to look like a god today? cuz it's spring, season of illuuuuusions!
  24. QUOTE (Allsox @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) Don't get me started about 2006 where a good CF was benched because of hitting woes despite the fact there were four 30 HR guys in the lineup already and his replacement sucked in the field, leading to our pitching staff throwing more pitches and tiring down the stretch. 2006 and 2010 were not what Ozzie would call his better yrs managing the White Sox. Agreed. I'm just saying, no matter whether Morel's offense should be a bonus or not, there will be turmoil if he sucks with the bat.
