We are talking about the percentage difference between 100k and 106k. We are talking about the percentage difference between 18 and 19 dollars an hour. It sounds more impressive to say 7 MILLION DOLLARS, but we are talking about 1.4 million a season for a guy pulling down almost 24 million dollars a year. After taxes and agent, it is probably half that. If you take into account the difference between tax rates in Philly and Chicago it might be about even.

That is kind of the point here. A Joc/Engel platoon would see Adam get a small fraction of the ABs, so you want to see him be productive in a small number of ABs.

It has nothing to do with "rankings" and everything to do with the Phillies losing $140 million last year. The reason the move these guys is to cut cash. They don't want to take on 40 million dollars to free up 50 million. They'd much rather dump $25 million in one pop. It isn't just about the White Sox.

This is quite literally the point. If you can't create them, you have to buy them. So far the Sox are creating them. As much as pitching churns, if you aren't replacing them internally then you have to try to buy them. The Phillies traded the wrong guys, didn't have replacements coming, and tried to buy their way out of it.
