I really see Avi getting something like a 1/4 or 1/5 type of offer to play out his arb year. He can't play defense. He has no OBP. He can't stay healthy.

This. In this day and age, a guy with Avi's skill set is the opposite of in demand.

Again, referring back to guys like Cron being cut, I can't see Avi being tendered either.

I thought the same thing until recently. But even those expectations might end up being too high. Seeing guys on tier just below Abreu getting put on waivers who were no where near his price on the open market getting cut has caused me to reconsider the idea of what the price of an Abreu extension might be.

With what was paid for Quintana and for Sale, SOMEONE out there will offer more for Thor if SD won't put its top guys into a deal. A team like the Astros could easily out offer them for example.

Honestly, the more people that a player has around to talk to, the better as far as I am concerned. No one coach is going to be able to reach everyone. They could be saying exactly what needs to change, but not getting through to the player. Look at Yoan. Do you honestly think it took someone 5 months to tell him to start swinging at pitches on the fringe of the zone a little more? No way. Having a guy like big Jim around can do nothing but help.
