  1. Would agree with this too. With one year less of control, maximizing that control becomes more important. It might also reduce the willingness of teams to stick with young players through slumps.

  3. I am saying it would hurt them by having more competition on the free agent market, That is why they could vote against it.
  4. Because moving up the free agency goal line means more free agent competition for a smaller number of teams who are willing to spend money on a winter to winter basis? With the tank coming into vogue, fewer teams are willing to spend on a year to year basis. If you give those teams more options, the onus on outbidding the other teams for players is reduced. Typically the front end guys will be fine, but the more fungible players will suffer, as has been recent history.
  5. Engel is actually 6th in range factor and 3rd in Out of Zone amongst all MLB CF's. They really hate his arm though.
  6. The metrics have actually swung around to a positive UZR/150 on him. He also has a positive dWAR now. He has a negative arm rating, and a negative errors rating, but that is largely negated by a big time range number. The crazy thing is his fangraphs defensive number actually ranks him just ahead of Mike Trout.
  7. It isn't confusing, I have no idea what Jimenez's background is.
  8. Such an agreement would not be a smart move without it being signed in writing. If you want that sort of agreement, you have the framework of a contract extension and should just sign the deal. Realistically the first 3 years are super easy, as the ranges of pay are really narrow. It opens up a bit more in years 4-6, but it still governed by the restrictions of arbitration. Year 7 is where it really opens up as the player is giving up free agency. If they are agreed on year 7, the first 6 years are much easier to define, at that point you literally have an 7 year contract outlined.
  9. See the earlier post about the Sox offering a contract extension to Eloy already. They already did exactly this and apparently Jimenez's camp said no.
  10. Basabe is a pretty big surprise for me. The other three fit recent trends for the White Sox (making up for lost innings/ABs and seeing how they do against bigger competition as a measuring stick).
  11. You mean he is part African or just dark skinned? I am genuinely curious because I have no idea.
  12. Also, totally accurate. This wouldn't get out if the player's camp didn't want it in the news.
  13. For those who know the White Sox, this is not a surprise at all. This is standard operating procedure for them. You can also take it to the bank that Kopech was approached with a similar type of offer.
  14. This should be the last post of this thread. Both parties are doing exactly what they should be doing.
  15. The slow build they always do doesn't help that either.
  16. I don't recall anyone being sent in their draft year before. With Nick, I would imagine they shut him down and give him some time off of baseball.
  17. This is what I am going to believe until proven otherwise.
  18. I recall them saying when Burr was called up that they were going to break him in slowly before throwing him into higher leverage situations. My guess is that they didn't think he was truly ready due to his limited time at AAA, so they want to use him selectively. Maybe the same applies to Vieira?
  19. The league average ERA right now is 4.22 for all of MLB in terms of starting pitching. In the AL that numbers shoots up to 4.41. You are wanting your 5th starter to be about half a run better than league average. I would call that unrealistic.
  20. I have the feeling that he could pretty much play defense anywhere you put him.
  21. If we are talking about SS, I prefer someone with Anderson's defensive profile above all. When building a team I want players up the middle (catcher, SS, and CF) who are the best at preventing runs and saving my pitching staff from as many extra pitches and outs as possible. If you are talking about flawed players, which almost are at some extent, I would much rather have offensively limited players in my most important defensive positions versus vice versa.
