Anything that puts more talent into our minor league system, especially without giving up talent to get it, is a welcome addition. They have a couple of interesting 3Bs for example who are solidly blocked at the major league level that would be great in our system.

At this stage, I would love to see the Cubs outbid someone for Machado (even though it sounds like they are out of the running). Bleed their farm system for a rental player that doesn't really move the bar for them. They need pitching WAY worse than the additional utility they would get for Manny.

If these deals are indeed true, the Orioles did themselves a big favor by better on holding on to Machado to the deadline.

Was just talking about him in another thread yesterday. This is his very first professional experience, so I wonder if he was an older signing or what? Pitching develops so much later than hitting at that age, so I wonder what his back story is.

I also remember someone talking the other day saying that the Sox don't have an analytics department. So this is a no-named minor low level minor league pitcher who hadn't shown that much at this point. But someone in the organization had taken the time to not only look at, but study in depth his pitching data and analyze it to the point where they could make a recommendation for a specific change. And not once, but twice, at least.

His OBP will jump as he gets a little more selectively aggressive. Once he builds in umpire respect, that number will go crazy.

Yes. I would be thrilled if we got 1.000 OPS seasons out of Yoan Moncada. Especially with his game changing speed and defensive potential. Tthat could be an MVP type of season in the right year.

Jennings was also a guy who was a free agent shortly after that trade, and a guy who was released in spring training. He is the definition of a fungible reliever. Even if Gillaspie bombs, which he probably will, that is a deal you make every single time as a team in the position that the Sox are/were in.

The fun part is the guys you target also need somewhere to play. We really can't bring in another OF at most of the teams in the system. Pitching is also pretty full at most teams. I don't know who is out there, but we need to be targeting SS and 3B if at all possible.
