QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 11:42 AM) Contract details. Bob Nightengale @BNightengale now Yu Darvish $126 million contract: $25 million in 2018; $20M in 2019; $22 M in 2020; $22 M in 2021; $19 million in 2022 and $18 million in 2023 He also has full no trade clause in first four years of deal. #Cubs so they set up his incentive to opt out after two years. This isn't a bad deal for the Cubs as long as Darvish's arm doesn't fall off at the end of year two.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 10:39 AM) The fact that the White Sox couldn't develop any pitching was one of the great many things that sabotaged the 2015 and 2016 rosters. It absolutely needs to change right now. At least now they have some horses, but until a few guys turn their talent into big league success, we should be skeptical. If this part of a larger pattern, and we got through this process to have the pitching fail, this franchise is done for in Chicago. We pushed our chips in on developing pitching over position players by volume. It was literally the worst possible move if they can't develop pitching anymore.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 09:49 AM) Even given that, that was in 2012. The last time the White Sox successfully developed a starting pitcher was 2012. In 2016, people were still talking about how the White Sox had a great record of developing pitching and we could continue to be competitive by developing that pitching and trading it for hitting. They hadn't developed a starter for 5 years at that point, and no Rodon didn't count because he was still struggling and now we've hit an injury wall. Hopefully this changes with the influx of guys we just brought in and maybe Hansen is the draftee who turns the tide, but "developing pitching" hasn't been a regular strength of this franchise in nearly a decade. If this is true, the rebuild is a complete waste of time

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 06:23 PM) Great points above. I feel like our window will be open much longer than the cubs'. The waves of arms will just keep coming. Not a chance. We aren't going to spend anything like the Cubs have/will, and we don't have the depth of position players to overcome that.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 02:29 PM) Good deal for the Cubs, if he stays healthy the first 2-3 years of course. Their window is now so who cares about the end of the deal. Usually a bit nervous about pitchers from Japan but he already had the Tommy John so that's probably a good thing for the Cubs. And this thread makes me think a whole lot of posters are gonna be disappointed with the next 5 + years of White Sox baseball. What the Cubs have done and are doing now is a best case scenario for the Sox future. It might just be the Cubs bias in people, but if you are so down about them, I don't know what you expect from the Sox. The big thing the Cubs want to avoid is Yu needing arm surgery in year two.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 01:38 PM) I don't know if I'd say "fortitude". He'd be killed in a matter of days I'd bet if he was in that deep with a cartel. Sometimes these guys don't have a lot of choice...it's not like they hit up a cartel member and say, "Hey...got any openings...I'd like to fill out an application...". Sometimes they're forced to. Threats against family members...loved ones...etc... Who knows how/why he got sucked in... Also could be his own drug habit being used against him... in theory. -

OD Roster Predictions: The Bullpen
southsider2k5 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dubzinski rules @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 11:05 AM) I guess my assumption is that if he is indeed healthy but can't get major league hitters out anymore due to the cumulative effect of the two injuries then there is no "getting right" and best to just move on. I don't subscribe to the goal of losing as many games as possible on purpose. I think that'll take care of itself without Nate Jones embarassing himself. Since the money's already spent, we could let him try to regain his velocity at Charlotte or see if he'd be usefull as a minor league pitching coach. There can be a lot of things at that point. Conditioning, repetitions, strength, etc. Guys coming off of surgery and long leaves can take a while to get back into pitching shape. TJS guys usually take a year after returning to get back to normal. -

QUOTE (Dubzinski rules @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 08:33 AM) If healthy and effective I keep him and drop one of the RH middle guys. If healthy and ineffective I waive him. Why? If he takes a month to get right after missing so much time recently, what is the big loss? We lose more games with a bad bullpen? Still not seeing the downside here. -
