Some interesting stuff in there. First would be Puckett, I don't anyone else is even close to that high on him. -
QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 10:53 AM) Let me ask you this. What if this story came out in 2010, a year after Obama had taken office. In the year 2000, while married to Michelle, Barack had an affair with a porn star and during the election of 2008, his lawyer paid her off using hush money. Would it be getting the same kind of coverage this Trump story is getting now? Or would it be 10,000x bigger? I think you are wrongly connecting the observation of hypocrisy with some real deep connection to the issue that is causing the hypocrisy in my case. This is yet another one of those issues where everyone flipped opinions based on what party is holding the Presidency. As is typical, opinions are fluid based on what is best for the party, and not any real ethos.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 10:23 AM) It largely died off in 24 hours until the thing about Cohen's claims that he personally paid for it with zero knowledge of the campaign or Trump came out. What Dems are actually talking about this? e: good job on successfully deflecting this from "bad things Trump has done that his supporters will excuse or embrace and may actually have been illegal" to "DEMS ARE HYPOCRITES!!!" though V V V yeah, that's the main angle, how ridiculously shallow and fake "family values" conservative political Christianity has shown itself to be. Trump is the symbol of damn near everything they claim to oppose, hedonistic and proud about it throughout his life, but they love him. I would say the same for everyone else here too.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 10:21 AM) Post some evidence to the contrary, then. That whole story seems to have died pretty quickly, swamped out by the next absurd bulls*** coming from the Trump WH. "Trump is a sleazeball" isn't really going to convince anyone to dislike Trump more than they already do, or for those who like Trump to like him less. Repeated stories about it means the story "died"? That is about as bad as the people who scream "WHY ISN"T THE MEDIA COVERING X" along with a link to a media story about said item.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 10:18 AM) It's just such a weird (but normal) deflection because the post you quoted specifically said Democrats shouldn't try to make this some sort of campaigning issue? And also they're really not? I think you actually believe that.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 10:09 AM) Democrats also don't call themselves "family morals" voters like the Trump-loving conservative evangelicals do, but hey gotta find a way to work that It Is Actually Democrats Who Are Bad angle Not bad, just opportunistic hypocrites.

The left impeached Clinton?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 08:43 AM) My favorite part of that saga is the obviously fake letter Cohen put out to initially deny the claims that used her stage name instead of her real name. His base doesn't care, and neither do most people. Nothing will cause his "family values" conservative evangelical base to abandon him. Democrats would be much better served focusing on actual issues to motivate their voters rather than Trump's never-ending personal scandals imo. Yeah, in a normal world revelations that the President (or his lawyer) paid hush money shortly before the election to a porn star with whom he had cheated on his new wife who had recently given birth, but this will never stick to him. Then again, it wasn't that along ago when the left was the party of letting consenting adults have affairs in private being a thing as well.

OD Roster Predictions: Centerfield
southsider2k5 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 09:50 AM) He was one of the very worst players in baseball last year though. I personally don't even know if he hits well enough to be a 4th OF. He had a 37 wRC+ last year. 37. Part of that is that he was put into a bad situation where he couldn't be brought along slowly, a part of that is mechanical flaws. Most guys have a chance to platoon or get favorable match ups with someone else taking up part of the slack early on. The kid barely got a rest the last couple of months of the season as the only CF on the roster after the rest got hurt. I know he isn't great, but he also isn't 37 RC+ bad, and I think the Sox feel the same way reading the comments about him. That is also not to say that he is the starter on April 1, but not July 1. -
OD Roster Predictions: Centerfield

My odds. Engel - Even money Garcia -150 Tilson -250 Cordell -300 Field 10:1 Personally I think they WANT Engel to win the job, as his defense is pretty untouchable in general. He is a 75 to 80 defender in CF, and that is a big help to a very young pitching staff. I think it is his job to lose at this point. Hopefully his work in the off season at the plate pays off and he can also hit a respectable amount to still be starting at the end of the year. -

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 07:36 PM) This is total and complete nonsense. That's the polite way of putting it. JR WILL NOT SELL, he's said that repeatedly, publicly. He is keeping this team until he is dead then his family will put it up for sale, period. End of discussion. Tax purposes basically prohibit him from selling the club while he is alive. JR is a tax expert, he knows the rules and the loopholes. Why is that so hard for you to understand, honest question...not trying to be snarky. I don't care much for JR myself, but he's bought in on the rebuild and the money WILL BE THERE starting next year. No guarantees they get anybody to sign with them but the offers will be out on the table and they will be aggressive. Worth noting is that tax laws just changed for the much better... and if there is a new President and Congress in a couple of years, that might not last.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 05:25 PM) If not for the requirement of the opt-out after 2 years, I would have been pleased to give Darvish 6/$130. I feel the same way about Martinez. I think you can exploit this market and do better than trying to outbid a much stronger marketplace for basically 2-3 players next year. Going into this winter I was pretty opposed to this team buying in general. After seeing the market that developed this winter, I have rethought that stance. This winter is starting to look like buying the pullback, while next winter will be buying at the highs. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 06:38 PM) Hmmm, interesting that the Tribune Company executed the exact opposite strategy when they sold the Cubs. And why does having no money on the books increase the team's overall value? 90% of potential owners are buying a team because they want to actually win a championship. Therefore, I'd think most of these guys would prefer having a quality team in place rather than having limited payroll commitments. And do you know what would really improve the team's value? How about a new TV deal that provides this new owner with significant fixed income. That's going to be nearly impossible if their plan is to cut payroll even further next season. The good news is your theory makes zero sense and I'm 99.9% it will never happen. Honestly I don't think it matters that much. Sports franchises are such a rare commodity that people bid insane amounts of money to get any one they can get their hands on. The pattern is the same whether the franchise is maxed out on payroll or stripped down and profitable.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 04:58 PM) If that's true, White Sox should offer JDM 5/$110M and call it a day. With as many teams as are sitting out this free agency period, and as are planning on going all in next time around, you might be on to something. Watching how teams are behaving now, I am not sure that trying to outbid the uncapped Yankees and Dodgers of the world is the soundest strategy. -

Nick Cafardo @nickcafardo 7h7 hours ago The union is not allowing media at their free agent camp in Bradenton. Wonder what they're afraid of? Poor turnout perhaps? Are major league scouts also not allowed? Really odd decision. The players haven't had a good offseason. And it continues.
