  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 12:09 PM) And the payroll will be low in 2019 (subtract Shields contract) anyway to the point where it shouldn't effect adding someone like Machado if you were willing to pay the price for him. Realistically, even if you took on a guy like Jacoby Ellsbury who runs through 2020 with a buyout, you are still going to have so many pre-arb guys on the roster, that it won't stop you from signing a Machado. That will be because of a different story. Again, I'd rather have as much depth as possible to insulate against needing free agents whenever possible.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:38 AM) Not worried about Pelicans falling into top 5 Really the only way it happens is if they miss the playoffs and then hit the lottery.
  3. A guy like Kemp would be off of the books before we would be spending in any real amount again anyway.

  5. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 06:28 PM) I don't think it is a coincidence that the White Sox and Bulls have both slashed payroll significantly. So I don't see any significant bumps in payroll until the Sox are ready to compete................or JR sells.
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 03:08 PM) I told you guys the LeBron-Bulls stuff would start to fly around.. https://twitter.com/stacey21king/status/959167405455966208 Stacey needs to stop himself.

  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 02:53 PM) I would rather give the ABs to Davidson/Delmonico/Sanchez and whoever else we got I doubt the team would really worry too much about giving him a lot of ABs. The point would be to get another potential piece of the puzzle into the system. I mean if the Dodgers or Yankees offered one of them top 10, you do the deal. A Justus Sheffield or Jeren Kendall would look great in this system.
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 02:49 PM) There's just so little upside to Matt Kemp. Giving more at bats to Davidson/Delmonico or signing an underpriced late-offseason free agent that got left behind by the market both seem like better alternatives to me. The upside to a Kemp or Ellsbury type of a deal is the prospect(s) they bring with them.

  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 01:20 PM) They could then still use a Kyle Tucker or the best pitching prospect in baseball to get an upgrade. ZIPS has them with 52 WAR. They have some cushion. For all of the verlander aww man what if they didn't get him or if he was bad, they could also have gotten Darvish and been worse, and Verlander has talked about how all of the information they provided him made him better. If you read only soxtalk you'd think the astros fell ass backwards into a world series title. Seeing the chatter around here lately, it would appear that Soxtalk in general thinks winning a World Series is pretty easy TBH.

  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 01:18 PM) At least 2nds in the NBA arent that valuable. If the Bulls want they can easily pick one up from another team for garbage. Or $3.5 million...
  17. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 01:00 PM) Niko balked at the deal (he has a no trade) because it didn't guarantee him the 2nd year and he would have lost his Bird rights. And then NO made the Bulls pay more for picking up the second year.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 12:16 PM) We've looked into the Disney version in the past and it just made zero financial sense. Something like 25k or 50k down, then an annual fee (thousands per year), and then you still have to pay a nightly rate when you want to go. I failed to see any benefit other than staying at more exclusive resorts. The Holiday Inn version had no nightly rate, your points paid for it. They did have a service fee type of thing that was on an annual basis. I want to say the top package was like $20,000 financed at like 25%.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 11:41 AM) They were so close to being screwed by that decision that people don't realize how lucky they got that Verlander turned up available after the waiver wire deadline. If he'd simply used his 10-5 rights, Houston would not have won the world series. And they can still be screwed if the 2014 Verlander, or worse, shows back up.

We did the Holiday Inn/IHG version. We got 4 days/3 nights free on Galveston Island for going. Not sure what the Hyatt version is, but with IHG, now instead of one specific condo/apartment for the same week every single year, they give you a block of points, and each of their resorts has a point value so that you can use the points however you like. It isn't cheap, so we didn't do it, but it was at least interesting to us because of its flexibility. Just like any of these things they will first try to sell you on a maximum package at a maximum price, and it a consumer rated loan that comes with a high credit card type interest rate. When you tell them no, the package and the pricing will come down to more reasonable levels. If the Hyatt style is similar in its flexibility and you are a family that does something in terms of significant travel on a regular basis, I can see how it would be interesting. At worst, you can even use the points they give you for regular hotel travel nights, though that isn't the best value for the points.
  24. I know there are a ton of moving parts out there, but I would love to see the Cubs gets screwed by waiting so late into this off season to do something about their starters.
