What is Blake Rutherford's upside?
QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) Which of our top 4 outfield prospects turns out to be the best is unknowable, at this point. So far, Jimenez is the only one who seems like a sure thing. My point was that Rutherford does not need to be a super star, like Trout, to be a big part of the rebuild. It is unknowable, but the odds are much higher for Rutherford.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) All the "Yeah, but Obama..." rhetoric is nauseating. Trump should've came out that day and said Nazi/White Supremacist. Then he could've told everyone, "See, I labeled things right away, unlike Obama." Now he is no different, which isn't what he wants. Its all political. Despite statements to the contrary Obama would gain nothing for using the phrase "Islamic Terrorism" and Trump gains nothing for labeling these people as racists either. The people who are screaming the loudest in both cases for these phrases to be used will absolutely dismiss them as something they should have done anyways therefore as worthless, and that they didn't really mean it anyway. It is all an effort to gain political points out of these messes.

What is Blake Rutherford's upside?
QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) If Rutherford were expected to be anything like the player, that Trout turned out to be, it would have taken a lot more than what the Sox gave up, in order to get him. Failing to be realistic is going to lead to a lot of very serious disappointment. He doesn't need to become a "Super Star' to be an important part of this rebuild. The Sox already have 3 other potential young star outfielders in Jimenez, Robert and Adolfo so he doesn't need to be a big star. Wouldn't you guys be happy with a solid defensive left fielder who hit something like Melky, but with more speed? While MIcker Adolpho has a very high ceiling, he also has the floor of a low minors bust due to his K rate. Rutherford might not have a 40 homer ceiling, but everything else about him is higher than Micker.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) Nope. Balta and I were pretty clearly making a different point, but you guys couldn't help beating up a bunch of strawmen. What was said was that all of Trump's white nationalism wasn't enough to prevent them from voting Trump for whatever other reasons they may have supported him. Not really interested in pointing out that different a couple dozen times again, though. No matter how you try to justify being on both side here, it isn't true.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) FYI nobody in this thread has said this! This is probably the biggest lie of all of them. There have been post after post equating all Trump voters/supporer to this and anything else done with racial overtones.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Trump is really a buffoon. Instead of trying to hold on to his base of deplorables, he should be trying to win the majority of American hearts. He's truly clueless if he thinks he'll win another election in 2020. Sans a democrat throw of course. For better or worse, Trump is married to his base. He has zero chance of winning over anyone who isn't already in his camp.

when can Sox contend?
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) If anything the tear down should continue through the offseason and that means Avi should be available as well as Leury and Yolmer, if anybody is willing to give the Sox a decent deal. There's not much left to sell, but whatever is left should be made available. The 2019 offseason will be the time to start buying again. With the price of position players being absolute crap on the trade market this year, I wouldn't be opposed to the Sox sitting on both of them, and even looking to see if there are any of those types of bargains out there for when the market picks back up. I also fully expect them to be searching for the next Swarzak and Kahnle in the bargain bins.

when can Sox contend?
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) Despite the idiotic calls to "be VERY active in the free agent market" they will be bad next year. Gio/Kopech/Eloy possibly getting a taste of the bigs in 2018. 2019 those guys are coming up with the next wave getting a taste at the end of 2019. 2020 you hopefully have a Rodon/Lopez/Kopech/Gio rotation, a Eloy/Roberts outfield & more kids coming up throughout the season competing for a playoff spot. Signing long term free agents this offseason would be the stupidest move they could possibly do. The point is to have payroll flexibility once the young core is in place so you see what holes are still left. Not to sign 30 year old free agents so we win 74 games instead of 69 next year. Some of your concepts of what a 'rebuild' is are truly baffling. Luckily the bark is louder than the actual number of people here. I think almost all realize that this is very very early in the process, and the Sox will be shopping in the discount bin again in this free agent market, and not hitting up Tiffany's.

when can Sox contend?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) Seems right to me. 2019 should be a fun year to watch this team really starting to mature, but probably not enough by that point. I've thought so for a while, but even more so when you look at how deliberate the team has been with moving guys up through the minors this year. A year ago, Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez would have all been on the opening day roster. This year they spent the vast majority of the season at AAA.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Tony Kemp would make sense because he technically needs to clear waivers or get claimed by Sox. If he's not technically "through waivers" yet it makes sense. The only way this matters in this sense is if Sox are acquiring someone on the 40 man. Astros can just trade any prospect not on the 40 man roster. The one exception to the non-40 would be where the Sox have a choice of say three guys and this gives them extra time to scout and decide.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
If the PTBNL is sent after the season is over, do they still have to clear waivers? Maybe that is why they did a Named Later instead of just a deal? Just spit balling here.

Can is 2020, most likely is 2021.

when can Sox contend?
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 08:04 AM) 1) Clippard was just moved to Houston. Another salary dump. The recent trades with KC, Yankees and Tampa Bay were nothing but salary dumps. The team traded Dan Jennings to Tampa bay for absolutely nothing. We now have Bummer as our only lefty in the bullpen. And he can't get anybody out. 2) I read yesterday that the White Sox are contemplating moving Avi Garcia and Abreu this off season. I have no doubt in my mind that both of them will be moved for prospects. More salary dumps. The team now has the worse pitching staff in MLB. Without Avi Garcia and Abreu we will have the worse offense in MLB And the lowest payroll in MLB. While the Sox have been moving tons of salary as a by product of these deals, they were NOT salary dumps.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 06:01 AM) Just to be clear, would you rather have Tyler Clippard, or Tony Kemp, a guy who's at best a "3.5 WAR player in a full season with good defensive versatility", and also cost controlled? And what would you have said about the best case scenario for Chris Taylor before 2017? Let me put it this way. would you rather have Tony Kemp and a million dollars, or nothing? THAT is really the choice here (assuming the PTBNL thing is right?}

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 11:37 PM) Guys, I didn't believe it before, but now I am sure of it - the White Sox are in full on rebuild mode. I thought with a young group of fire throwers in the bullpen and a veteran saddled rotation, along with a rejuvenated offense, the Sox were absolutely still trying to contend. But, with the trade of Tyler Clippard, I now have absolutely no doubt that they are rebuilding. Killer blow to the bullpen. Smdh Tyler Clippard loved Drake LaRoche. Fact.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
If Kemp is the return for six weeks of a guy we didn't want anyway, so be it.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) Astros want him, per Rosenthal Trying to trade with Houston seems pointless.

when can Sox contend?
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) The Sox can sign quite a few players for up to about four years from this offseason (three years from the next, so on and so on) and it won't really affect their ability to extend players coming up through the system. They are locked out of international free agency too, so no worries about that. I expect them to be very active in FA. I know that's an unpopular opinion, but they can sign good players as soon as this offseason and it does nothing to hurt their long term prospects. As long as they don't trade farmhands for aging vets, and I don't think they'll do that again, they can even make some of the old types of ALL IN moves as soon as this offseason with limited consequences. They will active to sign end of the roster and space fillers much like they did last winter. Past that, no. If they had planned on adding guys this off-season they wouldn't have unloaded guys like Quintana and Kahnle.

8/12 Games
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) Meh, let Kopech spend the '18 season in Charlotte to continue building up his innings. If all goes well I can see calling him up next September to work out of the pen and then pencil him into the rotation to start the '19 season. Really looking forward to seeing how he pitches in one of the worst parks in the minors for pitchers.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) I know, I fundamentally disagree that they offer a worthwhile service vs rent seeking that plays off of ignorance. You don't need high fee managed accounts. Yeah, all you have to do is look at the average financial IQ of a typical American to know that about 98% of this country has no business trading their own money.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Weird, maybe the NFL took it down from their site. Here is the ESPN link, it's pretty detailed. http://www.espn.com/pdf/2017/0811/Ezekiel-...r_8-11-17_R.pdf That is pretty horrible.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) So at this point do you flip Clippard or try to bring him back as a flip closer next year (because I no longer trust Jones' arm) YOu can do both if you really want. He is a free agent in two months.
