  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) SO invade them is your solution? Fuel oil for everyone!
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Starting in 1994, the United States was to begin funding 2 light water nuclear reactors in North Korea, the sort that could not be used for weapons construction. Japan and South Korea were to assist. The President could agree to that, but Congress refused the funds. Therefore, an absolutely straightforward case is that the United States broke that deal first. The North had what was still a rudimentary uranium enrichment program in 2002. They admitted it when challenged, and then got to work reprocessing their plutonium for bombs. The plutonium route was vastly easier - the Uranium route was not even as far along as Iran's at the time and Iran needed another 15 years to get close. In 1994 Bill Clinton stated he was willing to go to war if North Korea attempted to reprocess that plutonium. That was the red line. In 2003, we had other priorities when they started reprocessing it. Literally all of their bombs are plutonium bombs - it would have taken another decade+ of work for them to get anywhere near a uranium bomb. They did not make any worthwhile progress from 1994-2002, and then made rapid progress from 2003-2005, because the deal would have worked. We could have traded those fuel rods for the reactors and we broke that agreement. If we got those rods out of the country they would not have a bomb today, regardless of their uranium program attempts. That is what negotiation does - you don't have to agree about everything, but you say "here's a red line we'll do this if you don't cross this". As long as we are ok with a nuclear armed North Korea, we should continue treating any negotiation as appeasement. The end result is what we see here. lol. The Koreans just moved their program underground during this time. They never really stopped working on the nuke. They just lied about it. And we spent nearly a decade trying to reward them for that. https://www.armscontrol.org/factsheets/dprkchron https://www.theguardian.com/world/2003/jan/10/northkorea1
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:49 AM) Oh s***, I forgot I'm in Chicago! Edit that out! I don't care that he said it either, but it's the same as if he said "I smother my hot dogs in ketchup." There's certain things crazy Chicago people take way too seriously and you don't want to get on their bad side this early. This. Totally this. I was more mocking that people would freak out about it when I posted it.
  4. I will be the one to say it... the Moncada walk rate isn't going to continue. In the minors he averaged a walk every 7.45 ABs. He is now at 5.45. It just isn't realistic.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) One of the primary reasons Sale, Q and Eaton brought back the returns they did was due to the contracts Hahn negotiated with them. The man deserves the praise he is receiving. And on top of that, if you look at especially the timing of the deadline deals over July and what other teams got for similar players, Rick Hahn did a pretty fabulous job. Look at what other position players and relievers got at the deadline, and compare that to what the Sox got for their players. Compare the Melky deal to the JD Martinez deal. Same with Jennings and Swarzak. I mean a lot of people could have extracted value for a guy like Q, but Hahn did work on his second and third tier guys.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) I really think the Astros are going to regret not making a big move for pitching and choosing to hold onto prospects. They have a legitimate world series roster this year, but I question whether the pitching staff is deep enough to win in the playoffs. Keuchel is good, but his 3.66 FIP suggests regression is coming from his sub 3.00 ERA. McCullers just cannot stay healthy enough to be trusted in the post season Morton has been solid McHugh has been mediocre, same goes for Fiers. Not making a big move for bullpen and starting rotation help will be what costs them, because the offense is deep and solid, especially once Correa comes back Seeing their offense and how little of it they could have sacrificed for Chris Sale or Jose Quintana is just mind blowing. They can walk through the regular season with the offense, but once playoff baseball hits they are going to be in trouble.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) I would be okay if we signed him to a 1yr deal and bet on him being solid and trading him at the deadline. We would have got something for him if he hadn't been hurt for a while. He isn't great, but he's a serviceable back of the rotation guy who can throw innings. We will definitely bring in one or two guys like Miguel. I have no problem at all with it being Miguel himself.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 05:11 AM) Bigger version of Roberto Remember the Alomar, best 2b of the post-Sandberg generation Alomar on top of being a HOF bat, was probably one of the best defensive 2B's in history. Let's not get crazy yet.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 09:51 PM) I need to go find some 22 year old Cano clips. To me Moncada looks like a dead ringer in the field as well. It's funny how athletic he is on the bobbles, great hand eye but his lower half needs work. He has zero technique and footwork right now. It is all instinct and no skill at this point in the field.
  10. That;s now a 7 game hitting streak for Anderson since the Stroman show.
  11. Did I just turn on the Little League World Series?
  12. Moncada plays 2B defensively a lot like Anderson plays SS. Long routes circular to the ball, not smooth form, neither squares their body up to the ball, nor do they get in a good throwing position. Both rely fully on arm strength and don't take the time to set their feet to throw.
  13. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) My original point was that for a team in the playoff hunt that needed a corner outfielder Eloy would probably be an internal option as soon as this year. But the circumstances are obviously nothing like that in the White Sox org. Not unless that option was to trade him for a current star. No team would call Eloy up from A ball to play in the majors today. None.

  16. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) It is absolutely obvious to anyone paying any amount of attention that Eloy Jimenez probably doesn't belong in Winston-Salem anymore. Anyone want to disagree with me when I say Eloy Jimenez is ready for Birmingham? He is. But at the same time you would be asking this kid to make two moves within about a months time. He'd have to move to Birmingham for about 3 weeks, only to move to Arizona for all of the fall activities which I am sure he is going to participate in. All for three weeks at AA for a team that isn't in the playoff hunt either. Why? Let Eloy and the rest of the High A kids move to Birmingham together to start 2018 as a unit, and not put any more on this kids plate after having just moved to Winston Salem a month ago anyway.

  19. Other notables. Worth noting here is that Anderson's deal isn't even close to the biggest offered, it is just the biggest signed. Odor turned down 6/35, turned it into 6/49.5 Sterling Marte turned down 7/25 in his first year, turned it into 6/31 After his second year (which is where Anderson would be now) McCutchen got 6/51.5 Polonco before he was even called up to Pittsburgh turned down an 8/75 deal that included 3 option years which would have tripled Anderson's dollars. Mookie Betts shutdown extension talks at a similar point to Anderson, no doubt that deal would have destroyed Anderson's as well. Jonathon Villar turned down a similar extension to Anderson's without any option years Jean Segura also turned down a similar extension George Springer turned down a 7 year 23 million deal before he saw a single major league pitch
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Since when has anyone ever put Tim Anderson in Francisco Lindor's area code? That's insane. Lindor turned down an extension after 2 years much better than Anderson's first year. 4.5 WAR in 99 games, then a 6.3 WAR. Do you really think Tim Anderson can be that? And the Sox didn't give the extensions to those players the same time they gave Anderson his. It's pretty obvious they jumped the gun. No team had ever done what the White Sox did. Ever. Maybe it works out in the end. I just think if it is so brilliant, Tim Anderson wouldn't be the record holder. I don't want to kick him while he is down, but there were red flags with him. He does have ability, without a doubt. But not Francisco Lindor ability or baseball acumen. It is incredibly easy to draw the artificial lines in hindsight. Quitting on Anderson now is a horrible idea.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) Not sure what the point of this signing even is. My guess is that it is two fold. #1, they want to dump Pelfrey, Miguel Gonzalez, Derrick Holland for anything they can get, but they won't want to move up anymore of the AAA guys too quickly and instead are bringing these guys in as space holders for when the dumping occurs.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Yes he is the biggest extension that early ever. And the extensions you came up with were nowhere near the $100 million you earlier claimed. A lot would have had to go right for an extension to cost $20 million more than what Anderson signed. He would have had to play a lot better. Francisco Lindor doesn't count? Hmmm. And the rest is the entire point. If he had played well, he would have been in line for a lot bigger contract. This theory is quite literally the seeds of this rebuild. If the Sox don't offer very early extensions to Sale, Eaton, and Q, we are no where in our rebuild. If we had waited another year for those guys too, it would have been a lot more expensive.
  23. Chris Cotillo‏Verified account @ChrisCotillo 1m1 minute ago White Sox acquire Steve Johnson from Orioles for cash. Veteran reliever at AAA.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) That's assuming that they do prove themselves. Anderson has never been Lindor, so that $100 million number is far, far away. I get why the extensions are done and it won't affect the Sox financially much at all, but that doesn't justify giving them to anyone at anytime. Like DA Said, it' the largest extension given to anyone with such little service time. I think it's fair to question if they should have waited a little longer. The answer is if they waited another year, the extension price could have very well gone up another $10 to $20 million and another year or two of a contract. Realize that Anderson isn't the biggest early extension ever, nor is he the earliest extension ever. He just fits a very specific set of criteria to make his extension sound more extreme than it really was if you aren't looking at the big picture. I'd also be willing to get that Anderson's "record" is eclipsed very quickly with some of the young talent coming into the game and the desire to lock them up cheaply and early.
  25. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Fulmer should be converted to being a reliever sooner rather than later. Barring a massive turnaround I do not see the future rotation having room for him. He should focus on becoming a quality reliever, which is still a very valuable player. There is no reason as of yet to convert him. This is his first full season as a minor league starting pitcher. Realistically he shouldn't even be at AAA yet. He can be made a reliever at any time. He can't be made a starter at any time. Let him start, give him his reps, let him work on mechanics, release point, and mental approach.
