QUOTE (Soha @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) Not that they are likely to be big impacts. But the Sox are probably going to buy some potential flippable free agents this winter. They absolutely could help win some games at least. The odds are they will focus on the bullpen - since many other position they might want to fill with homegrown players. The Sox are going to be shopping in the Mike Pelfrey/Derrick Holland/Anthony Swarzak/Geo Soto/Miguel Gonzalez/Dylan Covey/Willy Garcia/ Rymer Liriano bin this winter. Odds are not that great they will get significant help.

QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 08:08 PM) It'll be a tank this year, then a top 10-12 pick next year, in my opinion. 2018-19 is going to be the free agent class we go hard on. 2017-18 free agency may be a guy that can contribute in some way on the '19 squad, but I think it'll mainly be depth guy signings. This upcoming offseason is kind of meh, 2018-19 is the one to go after. How? This team is going to have the same core, plus Lopez and maybe Giolito for the majority of the year. No one else is coming to help for the first half of the season except more scrap heap guys.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 08:02 PM) This is the bottom for the Sox. They cannot afford to intentionally tank the team once again in 2018. The fans will notbstand for it. It looks like the Sox have decent talent right now at all positions That can only improve if some of the highly rated prospects get promoted. But just as wee see now, pitching will be the key. Let's see Reynaldo Lopez, Kopech and Goilito this season. Bring them up and see what they have. A healthy Rodon to start the season with a couple of the prospects filling a few spots in the rotation would be better than what we have seen this year. I'm not predicting they will be .500 next season, but I would be surprised if they suk this bad again. Tanking isn't a one year process. It will be years before this team isn't bad again.

8-6 Gamethread: White @ Red
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) Still no proof, we don't know if the 400 players traded over last year all liked him #dedicatedtotheDrake

QUOTE (Insp @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) Delmonico's hitting .400 right now. At least someone's trying. This is almost as bad as the idea that the rebuild was a secret conspiracy to only trade the Drake LaRoche guys.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Cutty to Miami is official. $10 million. $10 million for the 6 or 7 games he will play around his inevitable injuries? Not bad at all for Jay.

QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) Former Top 50 prospect. I like it. Get as many Petersons, Lirianos, Garcias, Hansens, etc. that you can and see if they can reach any of their potential here. Love Hahn's acclimation of buy low potential for pennies. And if you get one Anthony Swarzak out of the bunch, you win.

It is a great use of a spare roster spot.

8-5 Games
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) I made a post couple weeks ago about how I struggled to put Kopech at that top-top level until I could see him just have good command for a single outing. I pointed out that he'd yet to have a single start with fewer than 2 walks and several other ugly walk-related numbers. Since then, in his 4 starts he's had 0, 2, 0, and 1 walks in 8, 6, 7, and 7 innings to go with 8, 12, 8, and 11 strikeouts. Yeah, hopefully something clicked. It would get so much more difficult at the upper levels if he coudln't through strikes. If he has turned a corner? Oh my.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) You always find a place for a guy who can provide above average production batting left handed. Delmonico deserves his shot. Is Delmonico reallly expected to be an above average hitter? I haven't seen enough power to see that if he is playing 3B or LF.

Something has really clicked in Kopech's last few starts. Has anyone seen anything they can report as to why his BB numbers are down so far?

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 01:09 AM) Much harder for someone to learn how to hit mlb pitching than learn defensive technique. If he can only handle LF so be it I'm sure he can become a passable defender there. He isn't THAT good of a hitter at his ceiling. We aren't talking about Carlos Lee here.

Can Rodon become a quality mlb starter?
QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) I really like Rodon. His stuff is just nasty. No doubt to me that if he stays healthy, that he'll be the ace of the staff for years to come. It is all technical with him. He has to stay in his motion and finish his pitches. If he flies open too early his stuff floats and has no control.

Over his last 18 2/3 IP, Carlos Rodon has 31 K's. 14.94 K/9 is good, right?

Sox v Sox
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 09:28 PM) Regardless of what happens in this game, I still wish we would have traded Clippard for a couple more top 100 prospects We all do. Unfortunately he is only worth a couple of top 10000 prospects.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) My guess is May is more or less out of the picture. He may get a September call up, but I don't expect to see him again after that. You could probably put Cordell, Willy and Tilson in that category tho (needing MLB at bats), though more in the longer term since they're all hurt at the moment. When healthy, I agree.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) With all due respect, I think you are way overthinking this. Let the kid play and let's see what he can do. The game results mean very little for the time being. The same can be said for guys like Engel, Leury, and May... and those guys won't hurt young pitching with their defense.

ITS ALIVE!!!
QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) I couldn't believe it. Was Soxtalk gone? So, I went to another group I was in (Chicago White Sox Diehard Fans) and posted a message asking if any other members belonged to Soxtalk and were they having a problem. Problem with that group is that the one of the Admins has to OK every post and then it will be posted on the site. Would you believe that my post was not OK'd and so no post. Glad it's finally back up and by the way I dropped out of that other group. Soxtalk has its own facebook page. When this page has issues, that is the first place it is posted. https://www.facebook.com/groups/27284358753/

Delmonico promoted to big league club
A guy like Delmonico is going to be really hurt by a lack of pitching for the short term. With needing the extra relievers in the pen, it shortens up the bench, which gives us less defensive replacement options for a guy like this.

Sox v Sox
Rodon has gotten off to slow starts, but has seen his stuff come together over the course of the start. Hopefully he had something click last time around.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) I thought the Russians were behind this. This was obviously a Russian revenge campaign for the sanctions where they attacked what real American's loved most in Soxtalk.
