2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Random White sox question : If I buy corner upper upper deck tickets for $5 or $7 dollars, will I be able to move around, say, to an empty seat in the upper upper deck more behind the plate? Or will there be White Sox police stopping me from entering anywhere even tho there will be many empty seats? I used to be able to do this when I'd go to Tampa Bay Ray games in Florida. Buy the cheapest tickets, move all around the stadium (only spot that I couldn't go was near the front front row for obvious reasons). Thanks. Supposedlly for games with less than 20k in attendance they aren't checking upper/lower deck tickets.

Will Eloy Jimenez get to AA this year?
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) This is plain old untrue. Unless you believe that almost all of these kids are going to come up in 2018 and 2019 and all have instant success, there is zero chance of these team being good in the next two years. You have to understand that a percentage of these kids will flat out flop, as well as having others who take the Avi Garcia route of needing 2-3 years to realize their potential. Especially since a large portion of these talent is currently in the low minor leagues with 2017 being a month from being over in the minors.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) Cf Engel/Leury 2b Moncada Dh Abreu Rf Avi 3b Davidson/Delmonico 1b Gillaspie C Narvaez/Smith Lf Cordell/Polo Ss Anderson Utility- Yolmer I see a ton of potential in that lineup. And as guys fail there will be ample reinforcements from the minors coming up to take their place. A couple breaks go the Sox way and it'll be more than enough to capitalize on good performances from Rodon/Giolito/Lopez/Kopech (midseason). You and I see "potential" very differently. I look at that line up in 2018 and see #1 draft pick.

Will Eloy Jimenez get to AA this year?
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) I mean, if he pulls a Miguel Cabrera down in AA next year I don't think it behooves anyone to just let him sit. Assuming he will have to acclimate to the ML level anyways, better get it started earlier rather than later if we are more competitive than planned next year and look to be competitive a year early in 2019 If he hits like that, he still has AAA to go through. There is zero need to rush this kid, especially because this team has no chance at competing until next decade anyway. Why start his clock early?

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 12:59 PM) There is a lot of opportunity on the 2018 White Sox. Even the likes of Cordell, Delmonico, Polo and Gillaspie are of a higher quality than what the Sox have attempted to trot out there as internal options at positions of need. That is the PC way of saying there isn't enough ready talent, and this team is going to suck unless there is a miracle.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) While we may not have a great record of fixing guys, we do have one advantage - playing time. We can take guys like this and say "Here's a season or two, and a thousand PA's, go see what you can do". No one will care if we lose games if he hits .200 next year and then snaps it together afterwards. There really isn't a downside to this deal. Jennings is worthless to the team, and will be gone long before we NEED him anyway. If Gillaspie comes back to form, we win. If not, oh well and move on to the next guy.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) Should be dealt? Holland, Shields, and MiGo should also be dealt. Whether they are or not is anyone's guess, personally I think only MiGo is dealt, but all three should go You can also add Pelfrey to the should go list, the problem is no one will want Holland, Pelfrey, or Shields. Miguel has a chance to go for something.

Will Eloy Jimenez get to AA this year?
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Rodon/Lopez/Giolito could realize enough of their talent to carry the team. Kopech is going to force his way onto the ML roster next year too. They've shown an adeptness at building bullpen pieces from seemingly nothing, though closer might be an issue. On the offensive side all it would take is holding on to Abreu, a bounce back from Anderson and Moncada living up to at least some of the hype for them to be good enough to ride those arms. There are going to be around 22 "if's" on the roster next year. That doesn't really work for competing in MLB.

Should Giolito pitch in Chicago this year?
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) I'm hoping He is similar to Gavin Floyd and Coop can unlock him. I do want to see him in the majors this year In my eyes he needs repetitions to lock in his mechanics, so I would much rather see him pitch the extra month versus being done September 1 (again assuming he doesn't fall apart in the next month)

Should Giolito pitch in Chicago this year?
QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) AAA season ends in September, while MLB plays through the beginning of October. Would you guys like to see Giolito in Chicago for a month, or should he start the offseason when the AAA season ends? Giolito has mentioned himself that he had some confidence issues. The only red flag I could see with him getting called up his him getting hit around and that destroying his confidence. Ultimately, I would like to see him called up to work with Coop. Assuming he keeps on his upward trajectory I have no problem giving him a September call up. Getting him a month around Chicago coaches is A OK with me.

Will Eloy Jimenez get to AA this year?
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Sox could easily be a .500 team in 2018. I also don't see the point in wasting Moncada, Lopez, and Giolito's service time just so they can save Jimenez's. No. No way. This team is years away.

7/26 Games
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 02:13 AM) I'm holding out 1% hope that Hawkins becomes a second division starter in the big leagues, given that we also thought Matt Davidson was dead as prospect 2 years ago. There is nothing wrong with letting Hawkins do his thing. Now that there is talent in the organization underneath him he is either going to start to succeed, or he will play himself out of the organization. His play will determine everything.

Seby Zavala? What do we know
I am excited about him. I'd love to see he and Collins really serve to push each other.

Will Eloy Jimenez get to AA this year?
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) No way. If he gets sent for a cup of coffee in AA this year (which I think he will) and then to the AFL and performs, he'll begin next year in Birmingham. If he is cruising along in June/July there is no reason he can't be called straight up from AA. True, it doesn't happen as often with hitters, but it does sometimes happen. I'm not saying it's the more likely outcome, but it is not at all unreasonable to think he's in Chicago mid-year next year or as a September call-up The simple post is WHY? Look at our 2018 roster, and tell me why he needs to spend any time on it. That is going to be a mid 50's wins horrible team. With where he is now, let him finish in A ball, and start in Birmingham next year. He has already moved once to come to the Sox, no need to have him move again for a month in Birmingham. If he destroys Birmingham, bump him up to Charlotte after the All Star Break and let him finish there. The absolutely soonest we should look at him in Chicago is after the Super 2 deadline in 2019. There is no good reason with the roster construction we currently have to rush the guy up here. Zero.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) If anyone has seen him play and disagrees let me know, but just taking a quick look at the numbers a comp for Giilaspie is a slightly less powerful but higher walk rate Jose Abreu All of the scouting reports seem to point to lack of bat speed being his big downfall, but he has shortened his swing to try to address it.

QUOTE (Soha @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Cordell seems pegged as a 4th outfielder. You can sign those guys for free every winter. You can also sign scrap heap relievers every winter. Some even pan out.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) It's strange seeing people excited over this kid and so down on Cordell. I personally view Cordell more favorably, but I wonder if people would have felt this kid was an appropriate return for Swarzak? I am not a huge fan of getting a 1B only guy, unless we are talking about something with a ceiling of Ryan Howard at his peak. I am a much bigger fan of Cordell because of his positional versatility and his all around bat. The other side of the coin is that Jennings has been mediocre at best, and isn't really going to be a guy to bring a big return anyways. I am curious what else was on the table for Jennings though. This is an attempt to buy low, but maybe the Sox see something they can fix. I guess we will see.

Melky thread
QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) @ChuckGarfien 38s39 seconds ago More As for Melky Cabrera, White Sox are willing to eat money in a deal. For them, it's about getting the best possible prospects in return. Translation, No one wants Melky, and the Sox are slashing the price on him to get SOMETHING for him.
