  2. This all reeks of being more worried about the Cubs being bad versus the White Sox being good, which is exactly what JR had to consider here. When this question comes up there is post after post about the Cubs and Cubs fans. I mean it can't be any clearer that the Sox fan base has a ton of Cubsession.

  4. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) False. I work on the south side of Chicago and see Cubs gear everywhere. I lived on the southside in Englewood my entire childhood and never saw Cubs gear, NEVER. Now, I see at least 10 people with Cubs jerseys on a day, houses with W flags, schools and businesses with Go Cubs signs, buses with Cubs advertisements, etc. You are mistaken. Again, I think your assumption that these are all Ex-Sox fans is wrong.
  5. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) You are looking at it too simplistically. Sox fans were not mad at the Cubs trade at all because they beat out everyone else with their offer. If all offers are equal you don't trade with teams that you compete for resources with. JR is probably thinking if the Cubs win a second World Series while his team has back to back 100 loss seasons it may devastate his business. Advertisers stop coming, fans stop coming and watching or decide to follow the Cubs while they are winning, pressure begins to mount for prospects to play well, etc. These are all things a reasonable owner will take into account, just like a reasonable owner would trade within his division for the same reasons. Your immediate competition doing well while you suck is not good for business. I believe your assumption that for Sox fans being a Cub fan, or going to Cub games is a substitute is 100% wrong. The MUCH more likely outcome for an upset Sox fan is they quit going to games and watching games, as we have seen this happen in the past.

  7. Most of the time the "lazy" tag is exactly that... lazy. Often there is something going on behind the scenes bigger than that. It is lazy to just assume that they are lazy.
  8. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) I think we all just need to accept reality for what it is. There is nothing wrong with a little rivalry in baseball. That rivalry ended up with the Cubs overpaying because they knew if all the deals were close, the Sox wouldn't trade with them. The Cubs paid a lot more than any other team would have because of our rivalry. Don't be mad about it guys, sometimes it works in your favor. I agree. Reality is that some fans worry more about the Cubs/Sox rivalry than they do about the welfare of the White Sox, and that is something that JR would have to take into accounting for in a deal like this. Your post only reinforces that this is a real thing.

  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) How often do the Sox actually give salary relief? Isn't that a no no with Jerry as owner? Isn't it very rare Jerry OKs paying players who play for other teams? They just gave it in the Robertson deal by bringing back Clippard.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) They said they were texting final piece names all through the AS game which was Tuesday night. And the deal was agreed upon on Wednesday night, and announced Thursday morning. This story said it was agreed upon for days. I did hear JR would never have approved it if the Cubs didn't win the WS last year though. There COULD have been overlap to that. For example once they figured the top of the trade, they could have run it by JR while finishing negotiating the last couple of smaller parts.
  12. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) The dumb fake rivalry? Living in denial is never a good thing. There is ALWAYS a rivalry between teams in the same city and teams in close proximity of one another. Cubs fans hate the Sox and Sox fans hate the Cubs, the quicker people with your view accept this, the quicker you guys can move on. Great example of exactly what I am talking about ^
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) I'm not surprised. It's really hard for me to get a bearing on the 45 level prospects. That's where the depth comes in for Yankees/Padres. They have like 30-40 guys that could conceivably make a major league roster. Not long-term, not starter, but have a path to the majors. But when I look at other farm systems, it's hard to care about players that don't seem like they have more than a 20% likelihood of becoming a starter. But for pipeline, they are able to draw that line between major league tools/substandard player and non-prospect better than I can. Clearly though the white sox non prospects are way worse than other teams non prospects as seen by our records in milb But if you can take one or two of those guys and turn them into players that can help you today, as opposed to losing them for nothing in a couple of months, why wouldn't you?
  14. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) Ha! I'm in the exact same boat. Same two cars too. We are leaning Sienna because of the AWD, but they are very expensive new, and used are hard to come by. Meanwhile, good tires on a FWD are probably fine. I don't know if anyone here has driven an Odyssey or Sienna in the snow. I have. It is as good as anything. Honda has the AWD that kicks in with a slide or spinning tires and it does the job.
  15. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:34 PM) Agreed I also find it interesting that Callis thinks the yankee system has the most depth, I personally don't see it(its still really good, but the most?). Additionally they're likely to lose 3-5 prospects in the rule V. I can't believe the Yankees aren't looking to cash in on these guys in more depth for deals type of moves.

  18. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) To what point though? Is some meathead fan going to stop watching the Sox now that they traded Q to the Cubs? Maybe I'm giving people too much credit, but that seems like nonsense to me. So far this rebuild has been met with very good will. If JR thought that there could be enough of a fan revolt to change that, I could see it becoming a consideration. What do you think the typical fan reaction would be if it was perceived that the Sox helped the Cubs win the World Series?
  19. Just for snorts and giggles... Carlos Rodon has thrown 55 minor league innings in his life, including the 17 IP this year on his rehab assignment. TOTAL he has thrown 383 2/3 IP as a professional. Compare that to Lucas Giolito who has thrown 494 1/3 IP as a professional. Reastically, Rodon was pretty well rushed and is still doing a lot of learning on the job. Carson Fulmer is rowing in the same boat with Rodon. I mean if you think about it, Rodon was drafted in 2014. It incredibly realistic to outline a scenario where Rodon is the guy replacing Jose Quintana in the starting rotation making his major league debut after spending half a season in rookie ball (2014), about a year in two levels of A ball (15), a year at AA ball (16), and half of this season at AAA (17). It is WAY too early to give up on Carlos Rodon.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:58 AM) I think Jennings will stay with the Sox for the time being. The market is flooded with relievers and Jennings is not having a terrific season or anything. He would not bring back much in a trade right now. This. It is a good thought to trade him as he enters his arb years, but I see no market for relievers right now.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) I hope the Sox are willing to eat the ~$5M and try to actually get something interesting back. It is going to be their only hope of getting something done, though I have close to zero expectations either way based on what JD Martinez brought.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) Not sure about Cordell's injury return timeline, but when/if the Sox can move Melky I see Cordell taking his spot immediately and getting regular mlb at bats I have no doubt that he will be in Chicago as soon as he is healthy.
  23. Reading the game threads the last couple of days, along with social media, you can absolutely tell why JR would fear a fan backlash from trading with the Cubs. The obsession is real for many.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) That was just an honest question. I had never heard the term used before. I don't know if there is a hitch, but one would think if the dude was on the DL for a month that they would have checked the medicals before this news got anywhere close to being leaked. Hell, for all we know, it could be Swarzak's medicals. My guess is that it wasn't the medicals as much as it was that the info got out earlier than the team wanted it. Heck in a deal like this it COULD have been the White Sox trying to see if anyone would top the offer for Swarzak last minute.
  25. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:50 AM) He absolutely has a chance to end up being an everyday player, with the ceiling of a second division regular. In being realistic about the player, I think he is going to be best suited to a solid 4th outfielder role. Playing good defense will help his case, as will some pop. It's worth rolling the dice on. Reading this I see a pre-back injury Tyler Saladino. Nothing fancy, nothing loud, but a guy who will go out and give you a lower to middle tier starter or a super-sub guy who you can plug into a ton of different spots and situations to help your team out. A lower rung guy does you absolutely no good as you literally have no where to play them now. It almost had to be a guy from AA or AAA, preferably AAA just because of where prospects are, and will be in the very near future.
