Baseball Prospectus ranks
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=31160 Usually if there's a sixth guy on these, it would be Fulmer - but Fulmer didnt make this. What is really nice is to see a couple of guys on that list that we actually drafted.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) What about Soto, Kieboom, and Voth for Robertson and $10 mill (5 this year and 5 next)? I'd like it, which probably means the Nats won't. Supposedly they don't want to give up significant prospects AND they don't want to pay on the contract. They get neither out of this deal.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 11:51 AM) That is the issue I think The Sox do not want to receive middling prospects back AND have to eat a large chunk of salary to make a deal happen If we are not getting Fedde or Soto as a headliner, I don't feel the Sox need to be kicking in all that much cash to make a deal happen. The Nats system really falls off sharply after Robles, Fedde and Soto The rumored Kieboom and Voth package is ok, but not if they want us to pay up as well That is kind of how I look at it. If the Nats won't let the Sox into the top few guys, no need to pay up on Robertson's deal.

2016-17 NHL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) The players union negotiated a mandatory bye week for each team during January and February in exchange for the new ASG format. https://www.google.com/amp/www.secondcityho...-2016-17-season the NHLPA has given up a lot in terms of salary, but they have got some nice schedule concessions out of it. They get a ton of time off for their ASB, Christmas, and now this bye week.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
QUOTE (GermanSock @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) I think they key is eating the contract. Fangraphs wrote an article that Robertsons value is around 30 m the rest of his contract and he costs about 25. That means he only has 5m of surplus value which is only a minor prospect. But if you eat all of the money you get 30m of surplus value which is worth a top50 to 60 prospect and maybe a little throw in on top (about 4 to 5 war of contract value). From the article, the sound of it is that even if the Sox were to pick up the contract, Washington still didn't want to give up anything. It really makes me wonder what the negotiations got to, players or cash?

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 08:00 AM) You suggest keeping those players, let their contracts run out and get nothing for them? On another note, as for Robertson, his value could increase by holding onto him for a couple of months. He's likely to have a bounce back year- worth the risk unless someone offers a real intriguing prospect. They can still give Jones closing opportunities. And while closing opportunities would help Jones, there also is a risk with Jones that he simply doesnt pitch as well as his peripherals indicated he pitched last year. Hahn has a tightrope to walk- his patience is probably the correct approach with both players. Nothing is exactly what teams are willing to pay for them. This isn't OOTP where you just put a player on the block and wait for bids to come in.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) The #Nats and #Whitesox appeared close to a David Robertson trade early in week but now at a stalemate as camps open http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...assic/97834948/ Such an odd winter for this stuff to still be active.

Mike Ilitch dead at 87
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) Now that is just extremely insulting to the majority of this message board. With some of the ridiculous posts I just read, it is entirely appropriate for some. I just watched a thread about someones death turned into a thread about how awful Reinsdorf is.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 11:10 PM) To get rid of Brandon Phillips, the reds are paying near all salary and apparently getting little back. I don't get how a guy like Phillips has so little trade value, all though it goes a long way towards explaining again why certain guys are still on the White Sox.

Matt Wieters
I wonder what offers for Weiters look like right now? If we are talking the cheap end, he is absolutely a guy worth taking a shot on.

Mike Ilitch dead at 87
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) I guess I don't get insane Reinsdorf hate around here. Was he really that bad of an owner for most of his tenure? Without spending a lot of time on this, the Sox had the 4th best record in the 90s & 9th best record in the 00s. I get we didn't have a ton of playoff experiences during that stretch, but does that mean Jerry was a bad owner? I guess I don't see it. Having said that, I do blame him for our struggles during this last half decade. His direction to "go for it" each year without giving the organization the proper resources to win falls on him. His unwavering loyalty to his front office despite extended stretches of underperformance falls on him. I for the most part think Jerry has been a solid owner, but for whatever reason (possibly age), he's really fallen offer as of late. I do think it's finally time for a change in that department, but I don't think having a different owner in charge would have radically change things in the 90s & 00s. There is always the group of so called fans who can't resist the chance to take a shot at ownership.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) Yes, but you have to be flexible and have some finesse when doing so. There are a number of ways to get value. What is "too little" today becomes "market value" soon enough if the Sox hold onto him. Last July, Benintendi was "too little" and by December he was too much. And there are risks attached with any pitcher; I think hesitation until after the WBC is plausible and understandable. Q has always seemed to me to be a better winter trade candidate than July. Much of his value is in contract amount and length. These things are most important and valuable to teams as they plan out their organization and team for the next year and in the future. In July, the priorities shift to someone who can pitch well, not for 3 years, but for 4 months. Contract and length aren't as important. Q needs to be moved. Except Benitendi and Moncada both weren't on the table in July.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) I said way back that Q would not be traded this winter and several educated fans on this site said I was wrong. "Just look at all the rumors" they said. Well I will predict Q will be still w the Sox when spring training opens this week. He also will be with the Sox when the season ends as well. The absolute dumbest thing the White Sox can do for their rebuild is take too little for Q. If it means holding on to him, that is the smart thing to do. It has nothing to do with front office favoritism.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) I didn't say their rebuild is not legit. But it is very strange that they were able to trade their 2 "clubhouse problems" pretty quickly but were not able to move any of the other 23 players on their roster. I think a lot of fans( just look at this thread) expected more trades before spring training . But it looks like the FO may have a much longer timeline for the rebuild than the fans in order to try and keep the product on the field somewhat competitive. That is also a legit rebuild approach. I think the educated fan can pretty obviously follow the trade market and understand why Sale and Eaton got moved, and why others didn't... And it isn't because the government was behind 9/11.

2017 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Nope. The issue is whether or not the Republicans engaged in unprecedented obstructionism in refusing to consider Garland because the nominee was up in an election year. The burden is on you to prove they would have. Biden's speech in 1992 is not anything other than circumstantial evidence that the Dems would have refused to consider a nominee in 1992 because there was no Supreme Court vacancy at the time. Thus, you haven't met your burden, and the Judge finds in my favor. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/15/health/p...servatives.html The Republican Congress floated the idea of a coverage mandate in response to Clinton's health care reform proposal. So by the Brett logic of politics, the Republicans should not be opposed to the mandate in the ACA. Hey look, more support of liberal policy by Brett.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Or he could struggle and suddenly not be viewed as a top 50 guy? You never know how things unfold. In all reality, if Giolitto or Moncada had come up and set the world on fire, I really doubt either is a White Sox today. I know there is the possibility that Q struggles this year, but the chances of the trade targets we have been talking about struggling is WAY higher. Houston could well be shooting themselves in the foot by not being willing to deal these guys today. Six months from now the Sox might not want them.
