  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) New reports disputing the theory that he was assaulted and robbed after the crash http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/kansa...e128699829.html I really hope that is true. I hate to think of people like that existing in humanity.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) If you need help on finding ways to quit drinking, I'm just a PM away. I was just going to call him an Uber, because he is in no condition to be driving.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) Out of the guys who had down seasons last year, it's probably true that 1-2 of them should be expected to have solid seasons worthy enough to earn something in a trade. If we hold all of them, we also better be ready for 2-3 of them to have worse seasons and just eat the money spent on them. As long as we're ok with that as a franchise, then holding 5 guys and hoping 1-2 of them develop some value is a fair strategy. Guys having a bad year this year isn't really a bad thing.
  4. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 05:30 PM) If Obama ran for a 3rd term I bet he beats DT haha. By 5 percentage points.
  5. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) I don't even need the predictions threads. If you're willing to bet that the garbage over 30's vets inundating the Sox roster will GAIN value by the deadline then you're betting on some massive performances. Again, I don't think anyone is betting on it, or expecting it. I think the hope is that even one or two of them bounces back. Personally the discussions I have read centering on David Robertson and Todd Frazier being the most likely candidates to do that are very realistic. I also believe that pretty much everyone else who holds this opinion (seemingly almost everyone but you) correctly realizes that once these players are gone they are gone forever. They also seem to understand that there isn't a current market that is willing to give a decent return for a myriad of reasons specific to each individual player. I also think people seem to realize that all it takes is one player to have a big bounce back year to explode their value, and even if all of the rest of the players fail to do so, the return from that player would largely outweigh the return for what we could get for all of those players now.
  6. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) No everyone wants all the Sox players to have massive breakout seasons (do not deny this, the Predict Thy Numbers threads are insane), keep all the veterans, remain watchable but still pick #1 overall in 2018 and have a big rebuild with blue chip prospects everywhere. The definition of having your cake and eating it too. I see the Sox options as (a) rebuild or (b) dont rebuild. I dont harbor this childlike (also reflected in these pathetic """insults""") expectation that the Sox, especially with this FO, can pull off 10 different things at once. Cant have both. No one wants to keep all of the veterans. Again, you are the only one saying that. What people are doing is finding a grey in your black or white world that states they don't want these players for nothing, and that they are more valuable to the rebuild as potential trade chips versus being dumped for absolutely nothing. It is also disingenuous to try to attach the predictions threads to "everyone" when not even close to everyone is making predictions. On the last thing, you mention a "childlike expectation" with the Sox, then complain about pathetic insults, which is pretty darned funny that you managed to contradict yourself quite literally in the same sentence, and be wrong all at the same time. Most of Soxtalk is who realizes that the expectation of being able to trade literally every single veteran player on this team in about half of an off season is not realistic. Some would even call that being able to "pull off 10 things at once" since there have been about 10 players having been mentioned as players that could, or should, be traded. You have quite literally advocated that the Sox have failed because they haven't been able to trade 10 players in an off season, while you are calling people "childlike" for believing exactly that... especially since you are the only one who seems to believe this already should have happened. I'd call that the very definition of having your cake and eating it too.
  7. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) And I'm confident that if the Bernie wing and far left hadn't legitimized and parroted the far right talking points and created the false equivalency narrative, she also would have won. She was a legitimately awful candidate. Twice she was anointed the next President. Twice she blew it. There was just nothing about Hillary Clinton that spoke to the American people by and large, other than she wasn't Donald Trump. She could barely hold off Bernie Sanders for the nomination, and she lost to the worst Presidential major party candidate since Andrew Jackson. I mean you can try blaming the right wing for that, but if that was the case, how come they didn't work their magic to take down Barack Obama at some point?
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Bleacher Report ‏@BleacherReport 20m20 minutes ago More Knicks reportedly offered Carmelo Anthony to Cavaliers in trade for Kevin Love, per @ESPNSteinLine DETAILS: http://ble.ac/2j5Rfa4 I bet they did.
  9. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 03:33 PM) I also dont see what about my idea of starting over lacks patience. I mean you guys are the ones who want them to field a competitive team in 2017 not me. Literally no one has said they want that.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) We can all come up with theories (and I have had many) but the truth is that they stayed home because they always stay home. Voter turnout in presidential elections has been consistently under 60% for the last 100 years. It briefly rose slightly over 60 during the Vietnam War, but that's it. I didn't even realize this myself, but apparently turnout was down only 0.5% over 2012, while actual votes cast was up about 9 million votes. Even looking back through recent history 2008 is the outlier over the last 50ish years, and not the other way around. The turnout percentage is actually higher than a majority of elections dating back to 1976. That honestly blows me away. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_turnout...ntial_elections
  11. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) Quote where I mentioned Bernie Sanders. Liberals and far left in terms of this election would be personified in Bernie Sanders running against Hillary Clinton and spending all of that time taking her to the mat.
  12. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Why did they stay home? Because of the false narratives about HRC that were pushed by the GOP and the far left. This isn't a controversial statement if anyone but me were making it haha If they stayed home because they aren't smart enough to think for themselves, well then they also got the con-artists they deserved a top the respective party tickets.
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Why do you keep making arguments - or responding to arguments - that I'm not even making?? Apparently you just need to debate yourself because you aren't saying what you think you are saying.
  14. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Not the White Sox! They've dealt two of their best players (for non-baseball reasons) and a crummy reliever. I would be happy if they made just a couple more moves, like just get rid of Frazier and Robertson so Saladino can sink-or-swim at 3rd and Jones can try and close games. That would save them like $30m that could go into int'l pool or elsewhere and maybe net them one t30 guy. It'd also prove me wrong about why they dealt Sale and Eaton. Essentially it has never been done, but the Sox are a failure for not panicking and doing it.
  15. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) Sox should have most of what wont be around in 3 years pretty much gone already, especially those are in their contract years and costing over $10m. This is not something ridiculous to ask for and it hardly means to the rebuild should all wrapped up by now. It shouldn't take a full calendar year to turn this ship around and embark on a new direction. Based on what example? What team has traded something like 10 of their best players and got it done in a matter of a few months?
  16. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) 46% people stayed home. Throw out any conspiracy theories and myths about the election that you like, but this is the big picture here. 46% of the voters turned over their right to vote to some other unknown people, and this is what they have to show for it. Congrats, hope it was worth it.
  17. QUOTE (Special K @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Melky had a good year last year. Frazier hit 40 hrs. They could be traded for some flyer prospects. And they both have salaries that make them not worth their production plus a prospect in order to get them. I mean sure we could get the next Colton Turner, and if that is what you are talking about, sure. But in terms of someone that will show up on a prospect list? No. Not even in the pre-rebuild days.
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) The polling data shows that that's actually completely untrue. An awful lot of people made up their minds in the final days of the election, strangely enough. And yes, the polling data was generally accurate across the board. There were only a few outliers that were wrong. I am not going to buy that people who thought Hillary Clinton was too far left were going to go to Bernie Sanders instead.
  19. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) If by some miracle all these over-30 useless players the Sox have turn their careers around in dramatic fashion yes I'm sure they will all be easy to trade When it was the deadline last year waiting until the offseason was a better move, now that its the offseason waiting until the deadline is the right idea. Its just a circular path of excuses for the front office, and now that they are on the verge of doing a halfhearted rebuild everything said last July is being contradicted to explain why "oh, they're just waiting for the right deal". The right deal for Robertson and Melky is any deal where the Sox aren't eating all of their money. If they wait on Robertson (who is absolutely terrible) they risk him becoming just a $20m anchor that has to be given a roster spot for two more season. Melky is less risky because he just walks for nothing in a year, but god at least get SOMETHING for him. Same goes for Frazier. Failing to get full value on these guys now isn't that important. What is important is for their positions to be freed up for young players to break in and get some PA's and the money that would've gone to them can be invested elsewhere in the org. This kind of logic would lead to a GM just getting killed in the trade market. To some extent there has to be some patience. Panic just isn't a good quality for a GM to have.
  20. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) Getting nothing is better than spending 600 PA's on him to suck while Tyler Saladino has to wallow needlessly in a utility role on a mediocre 4th place team because Frazier is the incumbent at 3rd. The obsession with Tyler Saladino is reaching unhealthy proportions. Going off of your usage of the word "mediocre" that is exactly what Tyler Saladino would be as a stater, at best. That is also assuming he can even stay healthy for 600 PAs. It truly is back up quarterback syndrome going on here.
  21. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) This is true. What's your point? They didn't do anything for Trump. The people who were voting for him were voting for him anyway.
  22. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) "If he gets good at baseball again" Which is a better return than nothing, which is what you would get for him now.
  23. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Over 30 and injury history, he's only pitched 90 innings since 2013 and not all of those innings have been great. Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman he is not, though I'm sure the Sox are asking for those types of deals for him. Injury history doesn't matter as much as it used to. Look at guys like Rich Hill and Brett Anderson.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Why don't you think Frazier's value could get much higher? Right now, there are several teams will questionable 3B situations that have decided they can't commit the money or prospects to improve. With even a slight bounce-back, Frazier's value could skyrocket come July. I feel like people are really selling him short here. If he were to improve his average and patience back to normal career levels, as well as his fielding numbers, he could have some pretty decent trade value again.
  25. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Jones is really the only guy I'm surprised that we haven't heard more smoke on. The market was flooded with RH power bats, and both Frazier and Jose are coming off down years. Robertson wasn't great last year. All three of those guys have a chance to build their value back up with a strong first half of '17. I really don't get why Jones hasn't had more smoke though. Totally agree with this. I am really curious why nothing has been said about him.
