Rule 5 Draft Thread (preview in OP)
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) 5'11" 150lbs. He makes Alexei Ramirez look like a power lifter. Hopefully kid is a whiz with the glove, because that career .629 MiLB OPS isn't scaring anyone.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) It's not a negative. You're saying his actions curb speech or will curb speech. Where is the proof of that? Criticism has INCREASED post-election, not decreased. And no, I'm not expecting anything explicit. But you don't have anything more than a guy using twitter to say "nu uh! you're stupid too! and you're bad at your job!" That's so far from actual, legitimate calls for his supporters to attack and suppress speech. There really is zero argument to this point.

2016 Democratic Thread
With social media as a big trigger, we have been moving more and more towards mob mentality for politics. Both sides if they don't like something unleash this disgusting stream of hate propaganda and trying to hurt the other side. Don't like someone's politics? Get them fired from their job. Shut down their business. Cyberstalk them. This isn't new to Trump, though he is particularly good at it. Pandora's Box has been open for a while now though.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) Loved Calderon, but you're not wrong. Calderon was Avi Garcia long before Avi was. Literally the only highlight worth watching in his career was his climbing to the of the scoreboard in Detroit to steal a homer.

Filling The Gaps
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Hypothetically though, if the Sox tank in 2017 and 2018 and take elite talents in the draft, I think they could easily be a Cubs like Dynasty in 2019 or 2020 if things pan out as they should. 3 years from beginning to end is insane. Even 5 years puts us at 2021.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:10 PM) Would you have bet money three days ago that Thad Bosley and I would be close to relentlessly optimistic and you would be the "dark cloud"?? Sure, everything can completely blow up in their face, they COULD face a 30 year Royals/Pirates period wandering in the wilderness...but, to quote Dick Allen, why even be a fan of the team if it's not going to bring you any pleasure/joy/happiness/contentment? I can tell you one thing for sure. I will be watching less baseball this year than I have in any season probably since Robin Ventura left Chicago as a free agent. I have not been nearly this bitter with the White Sox since that specific day. I had thought about Soxfest after getting a nice bonus this quarter, and there is no way I am spending $500 to do that now.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:05 PM) Simple. 1) They haven't rebuilt like this since the late 90's. 2) Albert Belle/Alex Rodriguez/Tanaka/Adam Dunn 3) The biggest financial treasure is there for the taking in franchise history if they have the looks of the 2014-15 Cubs heading into 2019 and can negotiate an advantageous media rights deal, which will obviously create another $50-75 and even $100 million dollars per year to play around with. 4) This is JR's likely last opportunity at an extended run as he's in his early 80's....and the logic of rebuilding but NOT FINISHING the rebuild if they're just a couple of players away, maybe even 3...is just completely nuts. That's what we have been dealing for the last 3-4 years, except we were trying to reload with one of the worst farm systems in baseball and a barren Latin American pipeline. 5) They have a special connection to Cuba that few if any teams have (of course, we don't know which direction that will go under Trump, in terms of continued "opening up" of the country), with the agents like Jaime Torres and buscones. Contreras, El Duque, Alexei, Viciedo, Rodon is Cuban-American, Abreu, now Moncada. They have a manager who has a much clearer way of communicating with those players than Ventura, since he's fluent in Spanish. We also just brought in 3 big-time Latin American talents in Moncada (Cuba), Basabe (Venezuela) and Lopez (DR). That's not an accident. And Paddy. Coming in second does you no good in free agency. Half of that list doesn't matter. One quarter of it happened literally a generation ago. I'd bet money that JR is dead by the time the White Sox win another division title.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:57 PM) If ATL could give up Albies, Maitan, Riley, and maybe one more, I'd hear them out. Again, this is the type of deal I want to see. If you can't get Swanson, clean out the rest of the top position players out of a deep system.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) They're doing something right now that's unprecedented under JR. Why should that be any different? You're not making a whole lot of sense today, you usually do. They have blown up a team before. Go look up White Flag.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) Please tell me why, throughout the night, you've been nitpicking at the weakest replies to your nonsensical complaints, but ignoring the common response: the rebuild is not done. We will trade more assets for position players in the very near future. The two biggest chips are gone. We have one more major piece in Q, a solid piece in Jones, and then a whole lot of guys with zero to negative surplus value. You have one bite at the apple with the guys you have. After that, you are depending on the draft. But once you start actually examining the path, it isn't going to be as easy as everyone wants to believe. These deals are so incredibly vital as so many other doors won't be open to us. I think everyone was just so ready for a change, that any change will do. We aren't spending for a marquee free agent We aren't going crazy in Latin America We aren't going crazy in international free agency, even if we do, we will probably be outbid by someone with much deeper pockets.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) I.Get.That.There.Are.At.Least.Three.Drafts.Between.Now.And.A.Competitive.Team.Not.To.Mention.The.201 8.Free.Agent.Class. OK, one thing we should know as Sox fans is that there is zero chance of them bidding on top line free agents when we are going to be coming off of two completely terrible season. We don't do that coming off of good seasons. I don't know why this has taken traction, but look at the White Sox free agent history, and tell me why there is any answer other than no.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:28 PM) So you're criticizing the org for taking top notch value because it's not who you want, but who you want are 17 year olds that have every possible chance along the way to bust but have high ceilings because you don't trust the org to develop position players. Can you please make sense of your position? I can't. We.Need.Postitional.Talent.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:06 PM) A top 100 current ranking isn't everything, is what I'm trying to say. He's the type of guy who will likely be a top 20 prospect by the end of 2017. Same with Blake Rutherford from the Yanks if he keeps continuing what he's doing. A guy like Maitain, who's what 70s or 80s could be a top 3 prospect in a year or 2. These are the type of lefty hitters we never seem to have and I personally would salivate over him in our org. This is a perfect call for the type of players I would want to see us targeting. He was described as a generational talent, yet because of his age, he is WAY down the lists and rankings. But a guy like that should be a huge target.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) This is still better than treading water for 75 wins a year last few years. Rebuild off too a great start. If we don't get position players, 75 wins is going to be a successful season for this franchise.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:41 PM) You say you wish they'd learn their lesson at the same time you're pining for the last multiple years of garbage baseball. They were never going to flip from what they were to a serious contender in a year. They will never be a contender if they can't send a full roster out there. That is the lesson. Pitching is no good if you are losing 2-1 every night. We just spent years doing it. Sending out and getting more pitching doesn't fix the problem. It extends the problem.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) There's a lot of 76 win teams out there to root for. They're not in short supply and they're not fun to watch Even better is 56 win teams.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) So you would rather just be terrible perennially than have two or three bad years in the interest of rebuilding. You deserve the last decade of baseball. You're not suffering. I get called a Cubs fan all the time because I was SO PUSHING for the Sox to at least attempt something close to what the Cubs did. It's not going to be the same and it's not going to be easy, but it was damn time now. I'm done ripping the White Sox. They're doing the right thing. I suggest you go cheer for San Diego, because they're the only team still following the 2016 White Sox "winning formula" No, I'd rather them learn their f***ing lesson versus doing the same damn crap that just failed. It isn't about the BA top 25. It is about the entire roster. They are too stupid to learn that lesson apparently.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:35 PM) Well it did lead to a 4 year World Series window and 1 World Series already. And they did it by loading up on position players. Bryant, Schwarber, Soler, Russell, Baez, etc. Notice a theme there? Then they spent money to get established pitching.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) What has gone on the last 2-3 years with the mlb team that you have enjoyed? A lot more than I will enjoy the next two or three years.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) You're as clueless as the people who looked at the Cubs fan five years ago and thought "WHY DIDN'T THE CUBS SIGN PUJOLS?!" This thread will be hilarious to look back on in three or four seasons. Cubs fans eat this prospect list stuff up. It is now the bible because of it. Apparently the BA list is even more important than actual roster make up.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) If prospects are really undervalued right now... Isn't it good that Hahn is raking them in? What exactly is your complaint here? Everyone, including other GM's, seem to think the nats got fleeced. What do you think the Sox could or should have gotten for Eaton if this was a bad move? They aren't the right ones. Of all of the top positional players out there, we have managed to get 1 in dealing our two top pieces. One. We got a secondary piece in Basabe. Instead we took a freaking minor league reliever as the last piece in the Sale deal. Take Robles instead of Lopez or Giolito. Get another position player from Boston instead of Diaz. If it doesn't work with them, look at Atlanta or LAD to get the players you need instead. We have spent how long with a team that can't hit or field. Why haven't we learned that lesson?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:25 PM) They aren't trading Bregman. Setting yourself up to be disappointed I was optimistic. I let everyone talk me into the rebuild. Now I fully expect to be disappointed.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:25 PM) So what if they trade Q for a package similar to the Sale package (maybe a couple more hitters since no one else has a Moncada) that has pitching as part of the value in the deal as well, then they draft well the next 2 years, then, just as this crop of players is coming up, they sign Harper and Machado? Still screwed? Just stop.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) Seriously, what the hell is happening here? SS2k5 acting like he just suffered a traumatic brain injury and you just showing your rear as you have no idea what you are talking about. This is a joyous day for White Sox fans. If you don't see it, re-evaluate your fandom. Apparently your fandom is based on the BA rankings, and not what is going on with the actual major league team.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) The #1 prospect in an organization that has a championship caliber major league team which traded for a staff Ace. Your nonsense is off the rails. Prospects get more attention than ever before, there is no doubt about that. They have become their own subculture to the point where the numbers on the list seem to matter more than actual team make up. What isn't up for debate is that they buy less than they ever have before. At no point in baseball history have teams had to bundle up so many top guys to get a good player back from another team. Even some garbage players were bringing back top prospects at this deadline. There is example after example.
