  1. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:43 PM) Thing to keep in mind with Abreu is that if he has a big first half you could move him at the deadline. And he still has the specter of a huge arbitration raise looming.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) whitesoxdave ‏@barstoolWSD Multiple sources confirm: Quintana left early for a wedding. Carry on with your day #serpentwatch

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 03:31 AM) Chris Widger is a free agent. Chris Widger is always the answer.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:21 PM) I think long term you try to develop Collins. Flowers came a long way defensively in the Sox system. Until they are trying to compete, I don't think it is imperative they find a long term guy. When they are ready to win, it should mean they can carry an offensively challenged guy back there, so you find a veteran pitch framer who calls a good game. Catchers are hard to find, hard to develop, have a bust rate, but some come out of nowhere. I would hate the Sox not get big time value somewhere else and get smoked takimg on a mediocre catcher. You absolutely let Collins catch until he forces you not to. But at the same time, you still look to target young catching just because of its rarity around baseball, and the system wide need.

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) Trade for some solid defensive catcher like Severino or Carson Kelly in a Q or Eaton deal to pair with Narvaez. Another name in a potential trade partner is Murphy from COL.
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) Done. Love Lux and Calhoun. Puig could have rebound value. Getting him into a more relaxed clubhouse is worth the gamble. If you turn him around, you either get a superstar OF, or you get an amazing trade piece. If not, he isn't signed that long anymore.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) It seems a huge majority of scouts think Kopech is the real-deal. There was a fine gentleman on the Score yesterday who said he's easily a top 5 SP spect in the entire game. I have no doubt he is the type of guy you are thrilled to get as the #2 piece in a deal. But there is a non-zero chance that his value is never higher than it is today.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) What really didn't work was the dumbass contract he signed. Worked for us, though! Man, it's weird. Sale was super duper dominant, but I never really liked the guy. Hopefully he finds a groove in Boston and gets the recognition he deserved, but a divorce at this point for the haul we got works quite well for me. Yeah, Sale wasn't going to win you over with his personality. I loved the heart and soul the guy has, but at the same time that has also been his biggest detriment too. He really reminds me of an old school pitcher. Someone who would have pitched in Hawk's day, throwing at hitters heads for running too slowly around the bases etc. One thing you can never doubt is the dudes TWTW.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) Kopech's stock has really risen. Heyman had a tweet that one team put Moncada's worth at $100 million, and put Kopech's at $100 million I think there is no doubt we are buying on the highs for both Moncada and Kopech. Let's hope their stock keeps rallying with some actual performance.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) I wonder if the Sox had the option to take on the rest of Moncada's signing bonus along with taking on another player. My gut says probably not though. Just a guess? No. If you have other teams picking up players with large bonuses left that aren't being paid by the signing team, it seems like a way to circumvent the caps. By having another team already over the cap do the signing, and then the new team do all of the payments on the player. The second team never loses their signing ability versus the first team that already has. For example... Team A signs $20 million in players under a $5 million cap. Team B only spends $4 of its $5 million allotment. Team A loses their rights to sign players for two years, while Team B gets no penalty. Team B works out a deal with Team A to sign a $30 million dollar player, and they choose the option to spread the bonus out over three years. Team B sends a package of players to Team A for the player, and then picks up the rest of the payments, maybe even kicking cash as a part of the deal. Team B still doesn't get the signing penalty, while getting the guy they wanted internationally all along.
  11. Retweeted Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan): Sale on his time with White Sox: "It didn't work. I really wish it did. I look forward to the next chapter."
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) That's a huge steal for the Cubs if his physical checks out. Epstein does it again. Yeah. This. They basically are sending Avi Garica for Wade Davis.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) Looks like they aren't far off....at all. That is f***ing insane. They are getting Wade Davis for Avi Garcia.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) Rumors that Vic Fangio will be on his way out at the end of the season. That would suck, that's been one of the few bright spots. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...206-column.html The defense is the one thing that has looked like it was NFL calibur.
  15. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:36 AM) Word this morning that the Nats package included Giolito, Robles, AND Lopez While a great package, I do think we had to go for the group with the best position player headlining. They could have changed our minds with Turner, but the Sox so lack positional talent, they almost had to go this route.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:03 AM) Greg, it took three years of tearing it down for the Cubs to win it all. That's no guarantee for the Sox, but you do understand that rebuilding means get bad really fast, then rebound, right? The first year of tanking got them Kris Bryant, the next got them Schwarber. 3 years, and somewhere around half a billion dollars in free agency. This is where we lack.
  17. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) And I'm the board troll. Yeah, go ahead and turn that crown back in, we might need it.
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) So did Engel a year ago. hahahahahahahahaha
  19. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:58 PM) It's not an economic platform to actually keep companies from moving jobs overseas. Sure, states and towns do this all the time. Do we really want Trump's economic policy for keeping jobs here to be negotiate with companies on a case-by-case basis? The issue for me isn't the fact that Carrier got this deal, but that it's being touted as evidence of Trump keeping jobs stateside in any sort of sustainable way. That really isn't true. Municipalities lose businesses to Mexico and Asia all of the time and in fact do negotiate incentive packages to keep them from doing so. I know for a fact in my hometown this is exactly how we lost ANCO wiperblades to Mexico.
  20. Mike Petriello ‏@mike_petriello 27m27 minutes ago There was no pitcher in MLB with more in-zone pitches called balls than Carlos Rodon (65), and it's not close: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_sea...barrel=#results …
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:39 PM) See post 98. Then put it into the Moncada ones. Heaven forbid having the first really young position player since Beckham (Anderson was unfairly lost in the shuffle last year, with the season falling apart) that White Sox fans could get that excited about. So that's two Moncada jerseys sold already, just in this thread alone. lol, you would be a great pitcher, because you can throw curveballs with the best of them.
  22. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 6m6 minutes ago Per @harding_at_mlb, #Rockies already talking to #WhiteSox about Abreu. Frazier, as potential FA, would come at lower acquisition cost.
  23. Owen Schoenfeld ‏@The_Xsport 1m1 minute ago Remember a month ago, the buzz was that Dombrowski was willing to move anyone but Moncada and Kopech... things change. #WhiteSox
  24. Kopech ‏@MichaelKopech5 3h3 hours ago New team, same dream. Anyone know if can bleach red socks to turn them white?
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) You would think for as big as Moncada's going to be, they would hold the same jersey number in Charlotte and make it clear from today he'll have that same number with the Sox when he's called up. Did Under Armour get the jersey deal for minor leaguers too...or will it still be Majestic until 2020? Other than Eaton, I can't think of anyone who will be in the vicinity in terms of jersey sales for the next year or two. Anderson, Kopech and Burdi...the other possibilities. Fans have sort of moved on from Abreu after 2014-15 already. Of course, we'll have even more exciting names to speculate about if Q and Eaton both go. In what world is Moncads's jersey number continuity needed in a thread about Quintana trade rumors?
