Rick Hahn
In all reality, Guerra is a fluke. The entirety of MLB passed on him what, a dozen times? Maybe more? Using him as an example of failed player recognition is more of an indictment of the science than the White Sox. The guy is 31.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 10:35 PM) Remember when Nolan Sanburn was mentioned as a long-shot bullpen candidate/future closer when we acquired him from the A's? Not so much. No.

Sox Looking for CFers
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) That's for starters...is this really any surprise? I really hate when people say that crap every single year. " If this is how the trade market is...". Well guess what? Demand is high and supply is low on starting pitching. The Miller trade for example should be a good indicator. You gotta trade prospects to get good players. Breaking news. What does the supply of starting CF's look like? Exactly.

If the Pomeranz trade is any indication of where the trade market is at, I am good with standing pat.

Sox Looking for CFers
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 09:01 PM) The Sox have no pitching depth in the upper minors, despite all of these plaudits about their expertise in developing pitchers. No one in AAA; no one close in AA except for Fulmer. This team has 2 guys in the rotation who are 5th starters WHEN they pitch well (which is not all of the time). Rodon is pitching like a #5 lately. Can't trade pitching. Baseball is a young man's game. Trades for Blackmond have some logic behind them. Trades for Cargo are obsolete. The biggest need is a DH. So far, Shuck has actually handled CF and he's hitting a lot better. Avi, not so much. We'll see about Morneau for DH. Don't see the need for urgency or impatience, especially since playoff chances are small with or without some addition. Also, it may be that Morneau is worse than Shuck, in which case Hahn would have traded for the wrong position. The Sox have nothing in the minors... until they trade someone in the minors for someone else.

Sox Looking for CFers
QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 06:43 PM) I think the larger takeaway is Austin Jackson is going to be out longer than they thought. If they thought Jackson was coming back in the 6-8 week timetable, I don't think they are looking for a centerfielder. Consider The Bust In FA: Jackson ( no fault of White Sox injuries happen) Rollins Latos That is probably 10 million dollars that could have gone to a useful player. Austin Jackson hasn't been good enough that a replacement couldn't improve CF a whole lot if you got the right guy.

Everyone points to Garcia, but it's Abreu's slide that's k
Realistically he got off to a horrible start, and has trended back to his usual self over the last couple of months. Historically his worst two months with the White Sox are April and May. The last thing we need is another irrational panic about Abreu thread. Here is his OPS by month this year: April .657 May .711 June .885 July .807 OPS+ by month April 82 May 94 June 131 July 114 Batting average by month April .229 May .252 June .306 July .351

Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 45m45 minutes ago Justin Morneau is 28 plate appearances into his rehab. He thought he might need 20-30. Spring training is normally 50 or so.

Sox Looking for CFers
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) Thought you could trade drafted players right away or do you have to wait until the off season? With the change in rules last year, you can't trade a draftee until after the World Series.

Multiple Dallas police officers shot at anti-police protest
QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) I don't post offen but have been a Soxtalk daily reader since 2003. I signed up on this site when I was 15. I am now 28. Soxtalk has always been my place for Sox news. I am a Southsider and moved to Dallas a few years ago but catch the Sox everytime they are here in Arlington. I am active Dallas PD. I have been on for 4.5 years and currently work in the division where 6 of the officers were killed/injured. I lost 3 of my good friends that I worked alongside day by day, rode bikes with, made significant arrests with, helped people, ate dinner with and had personal relatioships with. The officers lost were great guys. The three killed were in my assigned squad. I was scheduled to be at work Last Thursday and would have been right next to them. However, I took the day off because I took my wife's friends back to the airport that night and soon thereafter my phone began to be flooded with calls and texts. We have received an overwhelming amount of support from the DFW community and across the nation. I ask support/prayers/thoughts from my Soxtalk community as I bury two more of my friends the next two days. I can't even imagine. Prayers for all of you guys and families.

The really sad thing is that as bad as Pence is, I would still rather have him as President versus Trump.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) I hadn't heard that one. Being in the Chicago market for TV and news, I don't always hear the dirt out of Indy. But no, it wouldn't shock me. I actually met the dude during his first run, and he came off as a slimy used car salesman. Nothing he has done since getting into office has changed my mind either. Apparently the loophole is you can do it when running for office, but not when in office. http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com...mp;slug=1089789

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) I read that Pence was using campaign funds to cover his living expenses, but that it was totally legit. I'm kinda confused though, I didn't know that was legal, isn't that what Jesse Jackson Jr. went to prison for? I hadn't heard that one. Sox Looking for CFers
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) Agreed, but there was no way to predict that based on his performance through the April and May His year long numbers are actually right in line with his rookie year when he got regular playing time, and with what he put up last year. April and May were the aberration.
