Rodon's Replacement in Rotation
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) Well he called the Latos DFA. The Shields trade a week in advance with exact players. The Rollins DFA and Anderson call up. Pretty spot on. Yeah, whereever he is getting info this year, it is a good source.

Rodon's Replacement in Rotation
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Maybe the fact that his is making $1.5 million and hasn't dominated AAA makes his getting through waivers pretty simple. Or maybe they keep him around and work him out of the bullpen. Looking at his AAA numbers they probably aren't really worried about him being claimed.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) Eh, to be fair the gloves didn't come off for Bernie who earlier this year assumed an Indian man was Muslim, not Hindu. And there's his whole rape fantasy writings from the 70s. But yeah, Biden is just America's crazy uncle right now. I don't think the media took Sanders very seriously either.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) He didn't want to, his heart wasn't in it. Simple as that. I do think it's kind of funny that Biden has ALL of the liabilities on his voting record Hillary has AND THEN SOME though and nobody cares about that (Hillary campaigned for the '94 crime bill, Bernie voted for it, Biden wrote the damn thing, he voted for the Iraq War, history is not kind to him for the way he treated Anita Hill during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, etc.). Biden just doesn't get taken seriously. He is treated like the racist and really old uncle who just occasionally yells something stupid, and everyone laughs and goes "Oh that Uncle Joe!" Now the gloves would come off if he were every the nominee for President, but for now he kind of gets the Quayle treatment.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 11:39 PM) I thought I remember a lot of posts in the 2008 timeframe from you about how Daniels' education policy sucks? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else though (Balta? One of the native Indianans). I also remember complaints about Daniels being rather shifty with the books. All that sad, I agree he's not as bad as Brownback/Walker/Palin/etc. Oh trust me, I won't claim he is perfect. The education funding pushing into charter and privates is a big one locally. But in general, he is WAY more ideal than anyone else I saw in the entire Republican field in 2016.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) But trading Sale, Q, Eaton, Abreu, Robertson, Melky, Frazier, Jones, Duke, Jennings and Lawrie will allow us to stockpile on prospects so they can be ready when we trade Rodon, Fulmer, Collins, Adams, Hansen, Burdi, Anderson, Call, Fischer, Saladino, and Michalczewski. If you look around MLB and pick out the teams that are trading their top players at their peak values, you aren't looking at the top franchises in baseball. Those teams squeeze every ounce of performance they can from their players. You are looking at teams like the Oakland A's who are always rebuilding.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) As long as the team has a chance to compete, actually USING those assets needs to be a bigger priority than maximizing the return on those assets. I think trading a pitcher for a hitter is the type of thing that could make sense this offseason, but not at the deadline. Any tea, willing to pay up big for a starter is going to need to retain the types of pieces the Sox are going to want back. It is amazing how obvious this is, but everyone completely ignores. Maximizing asset returns just means you are in a perpetual rebuilding mode.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) Amazing to hear Cubs fans in the Chicago media today complain so much about Cubs not having home field advantage in a potential WS due to ASG. That might be the least surprising thing I have heard this year related to the Cubs.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) It was 7.8 % on this date last year. They were 4.5 games out of the wild card on this date in 2015 and they're 4.5 games out now. So essentially they doubled their playoff percentages year over year. Clearly things are better and improving.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) Last time I checked they had about a 15% chance of even MAKING the playoffs. That is the point. Which is about 14.9 percentage points higher than they did at this time last year. The continued improvement is the whole theme that was being talked about earlier in this thread. I don't think anyone expected this team to jump from 76 to 95 wins. But they did expect to put themselves into a position where they had a chance at the playoffs, and that is what they have done.

Parents Stuck With Their Kids
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) I've noticed this as well. It seems like every other kid I talk to or hear about wants to "get into IT" but they have no idea what it actually entails. Many don't even realize there are different fields within IT. Hardware, software, programming, networking, systems analysis, mobile app development, web development, etc... My oldest is taking IT classes in college and I told her to try as many as she can and see what she likes the most. They are all different. The moniker is similar to going into "business". There are boatloads of different things that go under that umbrella.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) I'm not arguing the point in general. But people take that to mean, "well if X, Y, and Z happens the Sox can win 88 games and have just a good a shot at a championship as anybody." The Sox have as good of a shot as anybody in the playoffs because they have legitimate #1 starter, plus another #1 starter type behind him. It is all about your front line pitchers.
