QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) Duvall so many weak hrs. Nobody wants this guy in the finals. He managed 15 homers though. That is going to be some work for Frazier.

2016 Home Run Derby
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Those are the two strongest dudes in the league for sure. that should have been the finals. Trumbo and Stanton are just badasses.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) What do we consider the Rangers and the Giants? Going back to 2010 the Rangers payroll was the bottom of the league, the Giants was top 10 but behind the White Sox. What do we consider the Cardinals? DFW is one of the biggest markets in the entire country. They are absolutely a large market, and they have it all to themselves for baseball.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) Let's cut it down to 3...anyone come to mind? In the "modern" era since around 2000? I think 4 years is absolutely pushing it these days in terms of a competitive window. You have to have a little luck and good health. The Twins are the team that comes into mind because they sustained that window from 2002 (2001 they really pushed the Indians) all the way through their pretty remarkable 2010 season. Tigers have 2006-2014...and their free-spending owner (which disqualifies them, even though they received comp picks for being "mid market" in name only, like St. Louis). So we can cross them out. The Royals, but they went through a prolonged rebuilding period, and they couldn't sustain injuries to Cain, Davis, Moustakas and Gordon (at least seemingly). The Indians have gone through two massive rebuilds (post 2001 and post 2007) in the last 15 years. They aren't even "mid market" anymore, they're the BOTTOM of the market, but they made the playoffs in 2013 and look to be well set up for a 2-3 or even 4 year run at present. Of course, for Cleveland to go from 2007 to 2013...well, there was a lot of fan "duress" along the way, for a franchise that set the record for consecutive sellouts in Jacobs Field during the heart of their 1995-2001 run of success. You consider 3 years consistent? That seems awful short to me, especially the way the White Sox fans talk about winning in terms of multiple playoff appearances.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) Or, to put it another way, which mid-market teams (payroll #12-18) have successfully risen up to become consistent playoff contenders without building primarily through the draft and Latin America? That have experienced sustained success by buying second and third tier free agents so astutely (success rate of 60-80%), as well as "winning" 60% or more of their trades...and that weren't willing to go through a prolonged period of rebuilding/Top 10 draft picks, etc.??? My guess would be very few, if any, have done it consistently over more than a period of say five years or more. With mid-markets, the payroll forces a break up, which it about impossible to recover from without the resources of a large market team. So while a team like the 90's Indians can come along once in a while, the shelf-life is limited. The other one I can think of the Braves playoff run. Other than that, probably no one has done this, no matter what stipulations you put on it.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) If you go into full rebuild mode you are likely looking at more than 25% savings in roster expenses. Moving Cabrera, Robertson, and Frazier and replacing them with Coats, Webb, and Davidson would more than save 25% of gate that would be lost. Also given that the Sox are making over $100M ($51M local, $52M national), in TV money before they sell a ticket, ad, or parking spot, they could more than handle a dip in attendance during a rebuild. The big problem is that their TV contract is up in 2019. Are you willing to risk a rebuild being at a place in 3 years, well two really because 2016 is pretty much a sunk cost, to where their is fan interest enough for getting them the best possible TV deal? Two years from now is probably going to be the bottom point of the rebuild.

Who Are These Guys? (BP South Side Article)
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 03:40 PM) You are 100% correct, and there is historical precedence to support this. The Sox went into full rebuild mode back during '87, '88', and '89 under the capable leadership then of Larry Himes. We talked about this a couple of weeks ago. That guy came in and whipped the farm system into shape, and shrewdly traded away vets to bring in other young players that put the Sox in 1990 in position to go on a nice five year run at the time. Problem is Jerry Reinsdorf replaced Himes with Ron Schueler, who simply didn't get the job done of getting the team from "point B to point C", but that's another story. What's relevant here is that this beleaguered fan base has, in fact, lived through a full rebuild once before, and it can certainly do so again. At least with a rebuild it might be clearer to the fans that there's actually a real plan in place to develop something capable of sustainable success. The crap plans employed in recent years have been anything but. That is a mighty impressive way of glossing over the 25% haircut the team took at the gates the year after the big rebuild started.

7/10 Games
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) This is why I keep gushing about that pick. A few years ago looking at Rodon, Fulmer and Hansen in three straight drafts would have seemed damn near improbably for where the Sox picked. Add that to the fact the Sox do develop pitchers. If we had drafted the hitter equivalent of Hansen, I would be really worried, and fairly disappointed because I have no faith in them to develop the pick. But with a pitcher, I have a whole lot more optimism. Obviously we have to wait and see what happens, but at the end of the day, you can't teach that arm.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) I liked Season 1 quite a bit when I just went with it, but I have very low confidence they can continue this story in a way that doesn't get extremely convoluted. That is what I am afraid of. I loved the first season of 12 Monkey's but the second season has been very meh, almost for the same reason.

Comparing the 2016 team at the ASB vs 2015
The Indians are 26-11 vs the ALC KC 21-11 SOX 14-19 DET 13-18 MIN 6-21 8 of the White Sox wins came against the Twins. For the rest of the way we have 13 games against Detroit, and 10 each against Cleveland, Kansas City, and Minnesota. With 75 games left in the season, 43 of them are against our division.

Comparing the 2016 team at the ASB vs 2015
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) If we improve at beating teams in our division, we will make the playoffs. If we continue to struggle beating teams in our division, we will not make the playoffs. It's as simple as that. Literally what we do against the AL Central in the second half is the key to the season. Good post.

David Robertson didn't pitch in a 1 run save situation
QUOTE (captain54 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Oh well, I tried.. I pointed out an inconsistency in your logic in the Robertson thread… My point earlier was that the BP #'s are skewed because of early positive numbers, you said Robertson's #'s are skewed because of negative numbers..but because my point leans more towards the negative, I'm wrong and you're right.. Difficult to have a discussion with someone who dances around the central point of debate, then manufactures the other person's POV to fit however narrative they wish to promote… So for that, I'm out . chief... There was no inconsistency. My point here was that if you are taking that one horrible outing for David Robertson and weighting it too much, you are missing the big picture. Just like when you focused only on the bad stretch for the bullpen, Matt Albers, and the one game you saw in person, you were missing the big picture on the performance of the bullpen. That was my point in both discussions, no matter what bitterness you tried to dredge up and drag into another thread, from a previous discussion. Though the irony is that in both cases, it was the worst case scenario being focused on too much.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) I'm bout to be "that guy" Probably a good 60% of people singing Tim Duncan's praises everywhere right now were people who spent 10+ years derisively talking about how "boring" the Spurs were, and only started giving the Spurs proper respect when they beat Miami that year (and had come close the year before). Being one of the few who will admit to loving "boring" basketball, Tim Duncan was an incredible gift to the NBA. The point has never been about how flashy or fun you are, it is to win. Duncan, and the Spurs, did a hell of a lot of that going back to The Admiral too.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) Evan Bayh did as much to block his own party from doing certain things as anyone who wasn't a Republican, or Joe Lieberman. I remember when he retired, it was some sanctimonious bulls*** about how the "environment had deteriorated" or something, and he was otherwise pretending like he had nothing to do with that. There was also a quiet thing about if he was actually still a resident Indiana that was going on when he decided not to run again. Never did here where that went after it came out and he quit.

2016 Recruiting Thread
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 11:21 AM) Illinois also has only 2 true frontcourt players next year, he's an absolute must for Groce at this point. The night I saw them play, Roy Williams was there in person to meet with Tilmon. He has great feet around the rim, a nice passing touch, a solid jump shot, quick springs, and he even has back to the basket post moves. He is the best big man I have seen in person at a HS game probably since I saw Zach Randolph as a sophomore at Marion HS.

Comparing the 2016 team at the ASB vs 2015
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) The White Sox have the best pitching of all those teams. Need to hit and beat teams in the division though. The defense has also gone from being an absolute liability, to an asset. That has really helped the pitching out of a lot of jams.

Exclusive interview with Nick Hostetler - review of the 2016 draft
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) You weren't kidding, awesome article. Nick didn't pull any punches, he seems confident in their process and honestly great to hear about going for good OBP,fundamental hitters and overall ballplayers. Nice work Yeah, the bits of detail on the players, plus the comments about the lies told to cover up who a team is chasing was all great stuff. Dude is a great interview.
