White Sox will chase Jay Bruce
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) Agreed. If they continue to tank all the rest of the first half, I think you give a massive fire sale and just absolutely load up for a year or two from now. This current FA market is razor thin, they could ask for a bounty of both young ML studs and top end prospects for guys like Sale, Q, Frazier, etc., and the 2018 FA class is loaded and they could feasibly have a bunch of cost controlled talent and the ability to take on a superstar. It wont be what they do, but I dont think it would end up being the worst play. I doubt it happens, unless this death spiral is for real and this season really does go into the toilet. Then they really have to consider it at least.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) How does this myth keep going that Sox fans won't tolerate a rebuild? That seems to be the rationale for whatever-the-f*** this approach has been for years now--oh, no! We can't clean house and rebuild or Sox fans will stop coming forever! Huh? I would go. I would rather see some promising youngsters lose with some effort rather than the corpseball we've been fed for damn near a decade. Didn't the Cubs basically rebuild? Not just on the field but in the front office? How's that working out for them now? I'm tired of hearing that supposed reason as a rationale not to do it. If we had the Cubs fan base, we would have done this years ago.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) 3 OD roster spots down, 22 to go, ha. In all honesty, I think silence is better than the public humiliation, but at this point, I'm down to try anything. When I thought JR had actually said that, my thinking was "Why not, it can't get any worse". All public humiliation shows is that you can't handle your business in house. Public humiliation should never come from inside of an organization.

White Sox will chase Jay Bruce
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) I think this is a very strategic plan by the Sox to make a push this year and this offseason, and then if things aren't working out, to sell everything off. Think about it. After this year: And I'm sure some of these contracts aren't correct... Shields - 2 years left - can be traded at $9mm to a contender for a decent return - nothing great, but something (if he pitches a 3.50-4.50 era) Lawrie - 1 yr left - can be traded as a high energy, master utility guy for a contender Abreu - can be traded for a ton Frazier - one year left - can get a really nice haul Melky - one year left - can get a solid, solid haul Robertson - one year left - can get a solid return Quintana - can bring in a hell of a lot Sale - a huge return Add this years draft, the few other pieces we have in the minors and what we get in return for selling off all of these guys and you are 2-4 years from competing again. I think this team will push as much as they can this year and this offseason to acquire players that have 1-2 years left on contracts and if its not working they're going to sell, sell, sell and try and build around Tim Anderson and a few other really young pieces and try and use the "Cubs/Astros" approach. Keep in mind this is the worst free agent market, probably in the history of free agency, but definitely in decades at least. If they wanted to sell off this off season, they should be looking at a sellers market.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) Maybe but it won't help the team. The whole point of anything should be to help the team not just to satisfy the bloodlust of some fans. For the season they are 1 game under .500. They need to try to fix it and then decide in the off season what the best way to help the team is. Bingo.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) The players on this team and those are responsible for them being on the Sox deserve no quarter. As far as I'm concerned they've earned whatever public humiliation they get. There's no salvaging this season anymore, anyone who thinks the playoffs are anything other than a very remote possibility is delusional. This group is mentally unfit for major league baseball and should be broken up. What does public humiliation accomplish? As far as I can tell the only thing it would do is make people think twice about wanting to play here.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) None of those words were JRs. They were San Diego's owner - and Rosenclown made it sound like it was JR's...until the last sentence. I got that. What I don't get is what he thinks it will accomplish if JR does it. Do the players not know they have sucked? Do the fans not know they have sucked? Does management not know this team has sucked? What exactly does this achieve?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) What has silence accomplished? It got John Danks released, Jerry Sands released, and the Shields trade.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) He's mad. I'm mad. We have something in common, we are both mad. The difference between when I'm mad and when Jerry's mad is that Jerry's anger can lead to changes with the team. Here's hoping. Still doesn't explain what a public temper tantrum accomplishes? What did it do for San Diego?

Fire everyone
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) Oh, I'm quite serious. You derail one thread after another with your baseless accusations about "others" - not yourself - but "others" about what you perceive to be misery, angst, and bitterness. You are obsessed with the topic. Meanwhile, the irony of all ironies is that you are the one exhibiting misery, angst, and bitterness with all of your constant harping on this made-up nonsense. :notworthy :notworthy

QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) It's also common around baseball that you shouldn't burn through 4 BP pitchers per night, but Robin has done that like hot cakes. Thank GOD for Sale and Q. Yes, it isn't pitchers throwing awfully, it is Ventura.

Nationals (Scherzer) @ Sox (Shields)
QUOTE (AmericanLeagueFan @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) Sox farm system ranking: 16' rank 23 15' rank 20 14' rank 24 13' rank 29 12' rank 30 11' rank 27 so yeah by the bare minimum definition of getting better, i suppose youre right. And throw in (i believe) a few top 5 draft picks recently to boot. 1 top five pick.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) That would be you, Colonel Misery. You are the only one around here always speaking in terms of misery, bitterness and angst. Seems to be your favorite topics. HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AAAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 09:26 PM) Here we go again - SS2K5 maligning an entire fan base comprising thousands and thousands of people he doesn't even know. Yet he feels compelled and dare I say empowered to slander so many people. Un-frickin'-believable that he continues pushing such miserable condemnations about so many people with whom he has no data points to make such statements. STOP ALREADY! Bitter much?

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) #27 is not highly rated. No good. Okay. Now back to the thread. If #27 is no good, and the Sox aren't on any top 30s, what does that say about the Williams/Hahn effort on the international front this year? It tells me they didn't give up much to get James Shields.

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) To answer your question, I was referring the Shields trade...dumping one of the highest rated international players for, well, 34 year old Shields. Doesn't indicate a high value on organization to me. Tatis was neither highly rated internationally (#27 in his class in one rating, unrated in another) nor highly rated with the White Sox (not in the FS top 30)

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 08:24 PM) What is the point of this? Immature and stupid. Not to mention extremely premature. Seriously 1 start?

Nationals (Scherzer) @ Sox (Shields)
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) Shields looks very uncomfortable on the mound. Back looks like it might be bothering him I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if that is what his problem has been.

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 06:42 PM) I put forth plenty of specifics. Some posters simply deny them, and put forth daft and profane posts like yours. The context here is clear: the Sox are not making a major investment in the international market, it seems to be less an effort than usual (not in on any top 30s) when the usual efforts haven't been "all in", and this is a year in which it would behoove them to do so, and with the Laroche situation, they have some resources. As for whining, the definition of whining is whether one agrees with conventional wisdom (not whining) or disagrees (whining). It's all about who/what one whines about. This team effectively traded Adam LaRoche, Erik Johnson, and Tatis Jr, for Shields at $10 million per for 2.5 years. I am good with what they did with the LaRoche money so far.

Fire everyone
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) Well they lost (until the end of last season when attendance went up a bit) eight consecutive years attendance from the previous year (a franchise record by the way). With the revenue streams and the money being made by MLB (Selig before he left said MLB was now a nine Billion dollar industry - that's NFL territory) I don't think the Sox would suffer that much if attendance dropped by the percentage you indicated. Look at it this way. At the end of the 2006 season they drew 2,957,414. At the end of the 2015 season they drew 1,755,810 (an increase of about 200,000 from 2014) That's a significant drop right there...and they've survived. Mark There is a big difference behind an erosion, and a huge hit to the fan base, ala White Flag. White Sox fans are a bitter lot, and would absolutely flee in droves over another massive sell off. Think more like 1997 to 1998.

Fire everyone
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) That may be true but honestly given the past nine (soon to be ten) seasons I wonder if that opinion remains in play. There may be more fans now willing to 'blow it up' and start over of course with a different front office making the decisions. Mark Willing as in paying to go see a 55 win team? Yeah, I don't buy that for a second. I would bet you money that if the Sox really did a full and announced fire sale, attendance would drop by at least double digits percent.
