  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) I don't mean to disparage anyone posting here, but I don't know how you can listen to Benetti and Stone give you a professional broadcast and then pine for Hawk to come back. The game has obviously passed him by and it's time for a change. I only hope radio change is next. Very clearly, Hawk isn't the same guy anymore. I really believe his eyes are failing him, which has led to a shortfall in his ability to see a lot of plays happening. That said, his excitement and love of the game, along with this authentic portrayal of how he is feeling at any given moment are absolute gold to me. He is elated when I am elated. He is sad when I am sad. He is pissed when I am pissed. You just don't get that out of announcers anymore, except for a very few guys. It is one of the reason I absolutely love Pat Foley too. I found myself thinking "this is it?" when Abreu hit the extra inning walkoff the other day. I truly missed Hawk having a coronary on screen for a walkoff. After saying all of that, I know it is time for a change, but that doesn't mean I want to let go of Hawk. The dude is the soundtrack to a good portion of my life. I know we had a thread talking about people overreacting to the death of a celeb or music star, but I will legitimately bawl when Hawk is gone.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) I think you should put your new tv down to watch the game. But that is just me. Seems like it would be kind of heavy
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:03 AM) Kasich doesn't even want you to vote for Kasich in Indiana. If the story about turning over his delegates to Cruz is true, I won't vote for him anyway. But that has more to do with Cruz, than Kasich.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) It's funny to me when a Trump supporter calls another candidate horrific. I most likely am too. I actually align pretty well with the part ideology anyways, but I also can't see myself voting for Trump (or Cruz) or Hillary. And I live in NY, so it's going blue regardless. Kasich's problem is that he is too smart and moderate for this election. He can't get any traction because he doesn't speak in meme's, which have become the standard currency for this election cycle. It is amazing how short of an information span that people have gotten down to now. It used to be that people listened to hours of entire speeches to get an impression of a candidate. Now if it doesn't fit on a cute picture, America doesn't have time for it. So we get Bernie, Hillary, Trump, and Cruz as a final four. This country is getting the hot mess it deserves. Maybe one of these days it will put more effort into the Presidential election than it does fan fiction for its favorite show.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) Very short episode Yeah, it took 10 minutes of HBO over run and previews, plus the theme before it got started, and then it was done 5 minutes early.
  6. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) To me it's not so much that Jason is better than Hawk, but the combination of Jason and Stone is SO much better than Hawk and Stone. The banter between Jason and Steve is refreshing compared to the stilted, uncomfortable dialogue between Hawk and Stone. There was a game last week when the Sox were losing, and there were moments of silence that lasted a minute or more. When things are going good, Hawk is good...entertaining. When things are going bad, Hawk is really bad. Actually I have caught Stone give Benetti the silent treatment a couple of times already too.
  7. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) Prepare for the worst hope for the best then right ss2k5? Always hope for the best. If one theme has been happening this year, it is that this year isn't like every other year.
  8. I heard my first campaign commercial here in Indiana. It pretty much said that if you don't like Trump, don't waste a vote for Kasich, because he has no chance to win, and to vote for Cruz. Boy, if that isn't a resounding pile of pathetic, I don't know what is. I shouldn't vote for a guy because of who he is, I should vote for a guy because of who he isn't. This is the damned Presidential race, and I should be picking a guy for no other reason, than who he isn't? Boy, great standards there.
  9. Braun is a sea of red flags, starting with his contract and injury history.
  10. On paper this is a ridiculously bad pitching match up in a place that is typically a house of horrors for our pitchers. Let's hope Gonzalez pitching for his professional life is enough motivation for him.
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) Binetti spends too much time trying to be cute. Just call the game. Why does he keep talking to Stone about the heater in the booth? Not funny. Just call the game and let it come to you. That and his car, I could never hear about again. At least when Hawk tells the same story over and over, it is about something baseball related.
  12. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) Saw it in this thread. re-reading it, it's just a suggestion. Can't imagine Danks doing it. But it was raised as a possible theory here. yeah, I totally missed that the first time around.
  13. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) Where/when did Danks admit to the coaches he was done and won't be upset if the Sox phase him out? Missed that. Huh?
  14. That is killer work on the deck!
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 06:19 PM) Performance related. He just hasn't been the same guy. Interesting. I wonder if you will see a Chris Beck like flyer taken on the guy if the Sox see something they think they can fix, or if he is done.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) Puk is pitching again and pitching well. Hansen is in the BULLPEN now. Quite the fall. He was considered the 1-1 guy sometime ago. Injury related, or something else?
  17. The defense. I know someone posted the defensive stats the other day, and the Sox were near the top of the league in pretty much everything. Is the change in defense just due to Jackson and Frazier coming in? If so, what is causing the change in a guy like Melky Cabrera? The big coaching change that has hardly been mentioned this year is Rick Renteria coming in this year. Could a big part of the changes be the doing of Renteria? Yeah, the pitching has been unreal, but I would love to know how to quantify how the changes in the defense has benefited the pitching numbers.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) the cubs man. I don't live in Chicago so I maybe have a bit more unbiased opinion (and god knows if I lived there I'd f***ing hate the Cubs hype) but they are video game good right now. Hell, you'd adjust the sliders if they were this good in a video game. Pythag pace is for 135 wins! And we are currently 1 game worse than the Cubs.
  19. So Danks and Avi are getting benched and skipped regularly? What about loyalty?
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) Prime Barry Bonds. Give Harper some juice, and we will talk.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) Still not Barry Bonds. Harper is about .350 OPS points ahead of Barry Bonds age 23 season
