  1. If it isn't him, then he isn't claiming it. But I will tell, you what. I want to make sure from now on that you never blame a parent company of anyone or anything that happens, which by the way is EXACTLY what you have been preaching about with your irrational fear of foreigners involved in campaigns nationally.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 07:40 AM) Go back and read through the thread. You were the one who, repeatedly, kept bringing up comparisons with Katrina, until finally someone took the bait. You were the one who started with that stuff. You are talking in circles. That too. I was just responding to the stupid thought that some how the US government shouldn't be involved in Haiti.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) Either of the Long skeletons unearthed from their graves or even David Duke could have done a much better job. When you combine the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with a totally incapacitated/decapitated UN mission...the Louis Armstrong Airport with what the Haitians have to work with, the sunken port/cranes and an obliterated National Palace with many government officers/police/firefighters/doctors dead or missing, there's really no basis possible to make any "governmental" comparisons between the US and Haiti. Not to mention 150-250,000 corpses that have to be buried quickly...the final totals will be greater than the Tsunami. The poorest 10% of Americans have a comparable life of luxury when juxtaposed with the poorest 90% of Haitians. By this point, US government had long ago established a supply line and presence in NO. Haiti government is completely nuetered. If it was left up to them millions would be dead. I don't see how you can make any serious intelligent comparison between the two responses. Was Katrina ideal? No. But it was a damn lot more impressive than this.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Through a friend, Damon's camp is floating initial retirement talk. Probably just a "Come on GM's" kind of thing, but that tells you something about how things are going in negotiations. There is no way he retires right now, unless his name is about to come out for a bad reason.
  5. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) I was at Soxfest today and Ozzie mentioned the whole- "As a manager sometimes you have to think with your mind and not your heart in order to lead a team". From what it sounds like and with the make of the team- Thome will not be back. If anything Damon would be a MUCH better fit than Thome and his value has dropped significantly the past few weeks. Apparantely the Yankees will only bring back Damon for a 1 year 2 million deal.. . Something we all need to keep in mind. . Damon has to have bigger offers out there than that.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) NO decesion yet on Thome, Guillens flight has been pushed back a day. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) So yeah, it's now Sunday night...
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) You're joking, right? Yeah, Brownie did a great job with that one...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. And what exactly has the Haitian government been able to do when compared to what the US government did?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) My last word; understanding the basics of how AQ's structure currently operates is a lot more than just semantics. So in other words, you have nothing for me.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Except for where all the money sits. It looks to me that the pro-choice lobby sends huge multiples more than the pro-life groups.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) That was me on Dec., 28. How do you define his organization? Are you counting the franchises or not? Because I could say more than a few, if you let us count those, because they claimed credit for a lot of attacks in say, Iraq, that happened to have been carried out by Al Qaeda in Iraq, which was one of those franchise groups. Very specifically attacks that Osama himself has claimed that AQ committed. Unless there is some sort of evidence that exists that he is lying, which for now is the word of our ultra-truthful intelligence agencies, you are arguing schematics to avoid the truth.
  11. If the NBA ever wonders why I am not interested in it as much as I used to be, here is a great example of why.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) It depends on how you define "His organization" which is, IIRC, exactly what I said to open this thread. So in other words... how many.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) I just struggle to believe it. Without even attempting to defend any government org, there's lots of reasons why I struggle to believe that. 1. Supposedly, we already know the cleric(s) it involved. 2. Its quite clear that he was involved mostly with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which is one of those, let's say "Franchises" of AQ at best. 3. It doesn't have any of the Hallmarks of the classic AQ attack. Multiple targets, well trained guys, etc. It was at best a small event. 4. UBL has just as much motivation to try to claim credit for something that didn't even involve him as any group within the government has to try to deflect blame. It's not like he's giving evidence here for why it was his plan. I found it striking enough that he was seemingly willing to accept UBL's words at 100% face value without question that I asked if he actually was totally serious about it. Let me ask you this, how many attacks have been claimed by Osama Bin Laden, that weren't actually from his organization?
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) Every time you get called on something, you have to change the issue by asking another question. Exactly. I know the source wasn't left wing so it can't be believed...
  15. QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) I'm somewhat confused by this, as well. During the season, almost every bit of feedback I'd get on Thome was that fans were sick of his HR-or-nothing game and that they needed to trade/release/bench him. And now that he may not be coming back, people think the Sox need to sign him? A big part of that is the "grass is greener" ideals...
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) It's interesting that you and the Post are seemingly quite willing to give UBL credit for it just because he asks for it. And it's interesting that despite the complete lack of evidence, you are willing to believe the same agencies that failed to prevent the attack in the first place.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Frankly, a huge amount of effort politically has, over the past few years, gone into designing and enacting laws that are either designed because it's believed that's 100% true, or because there's a need for a direct intervention to intimidate people from getting that procedure. The 48 hour waiting periods enacted, the requirements that doctors take certain steps to try to talk the patient out of having an abortion or at least provide often inaccurate information about the other negative health outcomes of having an abortion. If "not understanding that is an option" is not an issue, then it's straight out intimidation. That sounds remarkably like the argument being made against card check.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Jim Jones. Yeah, I think he might want to work on a new nickname too.
  19. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) to spin off what this guy was talking about, in the event this does happen and we are platooning Jim Jones and jones fails like a lot of you think he will (im not one of em i think he'll do well but) do the sox just go with... A. Thome all the time over B. Now that we resigned Castro Platoon Tyler Thome or C. you want Tyler to spend the season behind the plate to sharpen his skills and not have him DH so you go to a Jim Nix platoon or D. Give the job to Dayan assuming he has a good spring and early season and have him sit on the bench with thome and talk hitting so you go with Dayan Thome so A.Thome B.Tyler Thome C.Jim Nix D.Dayan Thome E.Jim Jones isnt gonna fail so this poll is pointless Just don't put him in charge of the Gatorade bucket...
  20. Because if you do... you get a $45 million buyout... http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-shep...icize-colleague
  21. So about this not really being Al Qaeda... http://nwitimes.com/news/world/article_e66..._medium=twitter
  22. Ozzie: "Well, if I want one guy out there, I want (Thome). I already talk to Kenny about that."
  23. NO decesion yet on Thome, Guillens flight has been pushed back a day.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) The fact we couldn't match 5.5 million in an offer for Nick Johnson pisses me off even more than we're wasting money on Mark Kotsay. I get the feeling that even if we did match it, he would have gone to NY anyway. Why would someone chose the Sox over the Yankees right now?
