QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) True, but they brought it on themselves don't you think? I believe they did.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Yep, unlikely i'll admit, but so is Adrian Gonzalez being a White Sox. $30 million over four years, when added to what Gonzalez is set to make, would almost exactly offset Konerko's salary. Crazy, I know, but I am just saying.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) He said the same thing last week, basically he thinks everyone is on the juice, he accuses Albert Pujols every other day. And even if he is there's no reason to believe he'll stop juicing before he hits the open market 2 years from now so you should get his absolute best for the next 2 seasons. And this is exactly what MLB gets for being so cloak and dagger about their drug testing. NO one has a clear name.

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) FWIW, A person that I know that is in the Padres organization has also told me that the trade is being discussed. He told me the Padres want Hudson in any deal for Adrian. That is the obvious starting point.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Mods, shouldn't this thread be merged as part of the main Agon thread already going? I like this being separate as it is an actual bit of news, versus idol speculation.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) It wouldn't be at all surprising if Tony Pena turned into a decent closer sometime in the next few years, that's not exactly a low ceiling guy. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) Ya, low ceiling definitely isn't the term to use to describe Pena. Glad to see I am not alone here.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) I'm totally in agreement that said people shouldnt overreact. But point being I think that Allen deal was the one prospect we'll deal for a low ceiling guy. Hudson and Flowers wont go anywhere unless it's a knockout punch. I could be wrong. Why do people think of Pena as a low ceiling guy? He is a guy that if he realizes his potential could be a closer for us. Will that happen, I don't know.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Beckham finished 5th. Don't agree with that. 5th? Wow, that sucks. I didn't think he would win, but I thought he would be better than that.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) B.Allen being dealt hurt many people, but I honestly think the current prospects, being positions always in need (hudson, flowers) will be dealt only for a real prize Shouldn't we wait to see if Allen turns out to be the next Chris Young first?

Gitmo in Illinois?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) So what's the difference between a serial killer escaping and a terrorist? One set we don't have to have here?

Gitmo in Illinois?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) Then the question is...would housing these guys cause any reasonably significant increase in the level of threat people are under? I can't for the life of me fathom how it would. Playing devils advocate, my hometown houses a maximum security prison, where they also happen to do all of the executions for the state of Indiana. We have had a few escapes, including three inmates who were out for about a week. Escapes do happen in our prison system, it isn't a big leap to think of escaped terrorists running around.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Konerko being a part of the deal makes it much more probable because it gives the Sox some financial flexibility to fill other holes while getting a huge bat. Bingo. Getting Konerko out of here, while not picking up any salary, and still getting anything for him is a win right now. If he were to get us a big time player like Gonzalez at the same time, they had better get a booth for licking Kenny Williams boots, because he just killed and got away with it.

Gitmo in Illinois?
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) my point was, that we live with "threats" everyday. So those who feel that now we'll be threatened because of a jail in rural Illinois, aren't seeing the whole picture. I have yet to see a single person say that there are no other threats until that jail were to happen. That is just making stuff up.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) So...what would the Angels be willing to give up for Konerko that the Padres would want? Has Brandon Wood fallen that far in their eyes? He seriously comes to mind there, and that's a guy the Padres m ight take a flyer on. I can't see them giving up someone like Hank Conger for him. Maybe they've soured a bit on Jordan walden and there's another hitter that the Padres could grab. That'd leave their OF as Hunter, Abreu, Rivera, with Matthews and Willits as backups, so I guess taht RH hitting 1b might be one way of filling their DH slot. But they'd have a 3b opening. This is the same team that signs an outfielder every year, so who knows.

I am sure nothing will be done soon if this is a three way deal.

Gitmo in Illinois?
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) lets see... 1) we've got 2 nuclear power plants here within 100 miles of Chicago and no one is concerned about terrorist threats there? 2) if somehow one of these guys did escape a supermax facility (something that's never happened) what the fu*k are they going to do anyway? They are in the corn fields of Illinois, in an area that they've never seen/been to before, and can't speak the language? Seriously that is a terrible analogy. We have one potential threat, so what does it matter if you have more?
