1B José Julio Ruiz may be the next millionare from Cuba
QUOTE (Cubano @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) Well, Viciedo does not count because he is no new to America. I am just rating the newest defectors without an MLB contract. I will include Jose Iglesias despite he is signed because he is kind of new. I like Jose Julio better than Viciedo for first base. Vicedo is much younger but Jose Julio has pop too. He has a sweet swing. He is a good glove too. Do you think he will be a more valuable offensive force than Viciedo, or just a better first baseman?

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) That was a sick shot. His talent is really incredible. EDIT: Heres the goal for some who didn't see it/want to see it again. http://blackhawks.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?...mp;event=CHI602 or.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgpqH8FCOQQ The goal is actually more amazing in slow motion, because you can really see exactly how small the target is at the point that Kaner takes that shot.

Nice effort tonight. They put the stat up that the Hawks had 15 shot blocks with 6 minutes to go in this one. That pretty much sums it up.

1B José Julio Ruiz may be the next millionare from Cuba
QUOTE (Cubano @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) I think he has a shot of making out of ST if he signs with the right team. He had some difficulty against left handers. I saw him hit a HR above the roof in Santiago de Cuba. He is young and he seems in a mission every time I read something about him. I wrote about him here: http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...third-best.html You have him rated higher than Viciedo?

Huet is looking very solid again, but you have to give it up for the Hawks D. The shotblocks have been awesome. Plus, this team doesn't score much on the initial shot, but do they ever crash the net well.

Public Trans/Parking Ideas
QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) I'm not one for starting threads like this, but I was hoping the fine people at ST can be of assistance. I can delete/close this afterward. I have a race near Montrose Harbor on Sunday at 8 AM. I'm hoping to get there about 7ish, and I'm coming from Arlington Heights. They have closed parking near the race site, for 'public safety reasons.' Any suggestions on where to park near that area that doesn't cost an outrageous amount? I'm open to public trans as well; however, I know I wouldn't be able to start on the Metra, since the first one doesn't leave AH until 9:30, IIRC. Thanks in advance. The further south and west you can go away from Montrose, the cheaper parking gets. It really depends on how far you want to walk.

It ought to be interesting to see what kind of night Havlat has after the way he left Chicago.

2009 Baseball America Draft Report Cards
QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Right, but we don't have enough of a sample size with Mitchell to see if his K rate will go down or not. He certainly has time. This guy was taken as a project so we will see if he projects better. No we don't. That's for sure. Plus the kid can contribute outside of the bat from the sounds of it, which already puts him ahead of Fields. I just want to be slow with the kid.

White Sox show interest in Aroldis Chapman...
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) hes not 21 first of all. he throws mid 90s and doesnt have much command. hes a project and not worth 60M. there have been plenty of guys with live arms who have amounted to nothing. to pay this guy that kind of money is crazy. even if it works out, he may be at most worth what you pay him and the odds are much higher that he will be worth a lot less. You have his scouting report, his birth certificate, and a crystal ball??

2009 Baseball America Draft Report Cards
QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) Yeah, he's probably a guy that will get AFL treatment in a year or 2. Still, he's not that raw. The guy won CWS MVP and did fine at low A straight out of college. He can start at high-A. Remember Josh Fields, another 2 sport player, spent his first full season in Birmingham. The obvious answer is... How did that work out? The strikeout numbers really are very similar now that I look at it. Hopefully they can fix the hole in his swing.

Something to consider on the potential trade front.
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Thought I made it pretty clear that it was a "proposed" trade by Olney. Not my fault certain posters here got that twisted. Besides everything right now is "proposed". No deals can be officially done until after the World Series. In reality, it will be much longer than that.

Jaramillo available
QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) That's a good choice as well. I guess that I was just assuming that the Cubs would go ahead and dump him this offseason, but they may rethink that after hiring his former hitting coach. I think they decided that spending $2.5 million a guy Bradley worked well with is better than eating $20 million. I really believe this move was made to buy another year for Bradley, and to try to increase his value to get something for him.
