  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) I would rather have Uribe still here as our super sub. A bad yeare with the bat doesn't mean someone is necessarily declining. People are to quick to condemn or dump a player for off years All I have to say is look at the numbers from Juans first year with the Sox to his second, and third and forth.
  2. Does anyone know when the actual voting process takes place, not just the announcement of the votes?
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) This. I can't believe anyone really wanting Bradley and Z on our team. The Sox are not even close to being that desperate. Ozzie might want Z, but I can't see Kenny giving up Peavy after the work he had to do to get him, and the fact that he has been awesome so far.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) Trades are a bit more complicated in this era aren't they? I always am amazed at how several moves made or not made then magically allows us to trade for somebody else. Money becomes available, etc. But, when we hear about how the Sox (KW) has been trying to get someone for years and then gets that coveted player-of course the skills have diminished mind you-we are just so happy about it all. I like the idea of building from within, but how many of our so called prospects have surfaced as star players in other organizations? KW wanted Swisher real bad and then after they get him he gets dumped and is called a bad influence in the clubhouse. Thome is a great clubhouse presence and a super slugger and basically gets released (I don't care if we got some AAA player). We dump Uribe becasue of the money, etc, etc. Look at what happened to the Big Hurt, who arguably is the greatest hitter this organization ever has had and maybe ever will have. The point I am making is the game has changed so much that the old way of trading like Bil Veeck did by sitting in the lobby of the hotel with an open for business sign is long gone and will never be back. It is strictly a business decision for a GM in many cases. We didn't dump Thome. Williams did the classy thing and found him a place where he could get his world series ring. We dumped Uribe because he was wildly inconsistent, and we had others coming through the system who were ready for a shot. Would you rather have Uribe playing 3B over Beckham? SS over Ramirez?
  5. Honestly the clinic is probably lucky there was religion involved, or this would have been one long and ugly lawsuit process.
  6. The fertility clinic emplanted the wrong embryo, and your choices are abort, or give up the baby. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/...tory?id=8675885
  7. It is probably time for this to have its own thread, between Obama calling out Iran for having a secret facility, and then Iran responding by conducting missile test.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:03 AM) I think that's a bad idea. If there's a popular show you've DVR'd, avoid the thread until you've seen it, or be forewarned! Really, why would you be looking in a thread about TV shows, when you haven't watched your show yet?
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) I'm going to start making Bobby Bonilla threads. Why did we trade him!!! He was awesome in Pittsburgh! I won't rest until Oscar Gamble is avenged!
  10. QUOTE (Cubano @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) I wrote something you may find interesting about Cuban baseball. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...9-ibaf-bwc.html That list of player playing outside of Cuba tells me everything I need to know.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) No, but our opening day CF wouldn't have been Wise and our 4-5 wouldn't of been both Colon and Contreras Actually it probably would have been, because it wasn't going to be Swisher, even if he was on the roster.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 02:35 AM) Phil Rogers got the idea from me. No, it was me.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 07:54 AM) Obama is going. great, now no one gets health care.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) Would you trade Jenks, Retherford and Hudson for Crawford? Would Tampa accept it? I think I would do it, because I would be getting the best player in the deal.
  15. FWIW in Phil Rogers column today, he mentions the Rays as a team who could be interesting in Jenks... Let the Crawford/Jenks rumors BEGIN!
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Sox still haven't won a game started by somebody other than Peavy in a long time. This team has a lot to fix before next season.
  17. QUOTE (VAfan @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) The Nats are not trading Dunn, period. Zimmerman and Dunn are the key to their offense. They'll keep both unitl their young pitching comes around. The Nationals are years away. If they can find people that will potentially contribute in 2012/13/14 when their talent will actually start to show up, they will do it in a heartbeat.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) Greinke's down to 2.06 after 7 innings of 1 ER run work today. He gave up his one buffer run so he now needs 7 shutout innings in his final start to finish the season with an ERA of 1.9927 or 1.99 after rounding it off. It would be only the 29th time since 1950 that a starting pitcher finished the season with a sub-2 ERA in 200+ IP and only the 15th AL pitcher to do it over that span, only the 10th time for either league in the past 30 years and 3rd time in the AL over that span. He can't lose if he can get under 2.00.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) What? Who? This sounds retarded. Are these "baseball people" just baseball fans on a message board? Its Phil Rogers making up s***. Anderson Gomes saids hi.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) Obvious observations: Jamarcus Russell is terrible and will never amount to anything in the NFL. You almost wonder if the kid landed anywhere but Oakland if he could have amounted to something.
  21. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) I think so too. The Yankees are too powerful. I really think this is their year. In the last 10 years, the team with the biggest lead in their division at the end of the year is 5-5 in their playoff opening series. Only once in those 10 years did they make it to the World Series, and that team lost. Both the Yankees and Cardinals have cruised for a long time at the end of this season FWIW.
  22. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) In all honesty... last nights game is keeping me from buying tickets to todays game. Who wants to see a team get thrashed by the team who beat you out for the playoffs? And I HATE the fact that Tigers fans are going to be all up in the house cheering on their playoff team louder than our fans. They have a reason to cheer though and we don't. This is depressing just line 2007. I hate when the Sox suck... Don't look now, but we just took two out of three from them...
  23. Just as surprising is that it isn't me!
  24. Congrats to Hudson. Hopefully it is the first of many with the Sox!
  25. I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but Seattle needs to give those uni's back to whatever Arena league team they stole them from. :puke
