  1. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 15, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) And that is something we do not talk about enough. Will this team make money this year? This slow start could hurt ticket sales. Wins and loses are one thing, perhaps we may not compete this season, but wouldn't it be grand if we could make more money than any team in the central? Because how much money a team makes has no affect on the product on the field at all, does it? Who cares.
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 14, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) IIRC Crede was going off at this time last year, then June hit and he fell off the face of the planet Once he tweeked his back this season was over. I wouldn't be surprised if the samething happened again around June 1st. Joe doesn't seem to be able to get more than a couple of months at a time of his back.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) Orlando Hudson is on a 1 year deal. Chone Figgins will be out there, Johnny Damon also. Coco Crisp has an $8 million option, Freddy Sanchez has an $8 million option. Polonco will be out there, then you get down to the Xavier Nady level and you're really stretching. Probably someone out there I missed, here's a version of the list from a few months ago. Hmm, a few guys that Kenny has chased before and Sox killers. That could be interesting depending on what the team finances look like after this season.
  4. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ May 15, 2009 -> 05:30 AM) At least there's no 9:30pm games Bingo. LETS GO HAWKS!!!!
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) I'd be surprised if KW didn't go out and spend money on a leadoff hitter this offseason. Who would he block and who is out there?
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ May 14, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) Kanny beat Lakewood 4-1 Nathan Jones picks up the win in relief. Check out these numbers for Kannapolis pitchers today... 17 strikeouts and ZERO walks. (Sauer 8, O'Neil 1, Jones 5, and Remenowsky 3.) I have my fingers crossed and I'm knocking on wood as I say this, but Nathan Jones looks like he's starting to figure out where the strikezone is... and that could be a very interesting and good thing. On the season, he has 21 K's vs. 6 BBs in 14.2 innings. Also, Steven Sauer has 26 K's and 1BB on the season. Nice ratio. Talk about a perfect guy for Don Cooper... Plus arm who can't find the strike zone. He sounds a lot like Matt Thornton was when he got here.
  7. Boston bites the dust as well. Things are really set up for a Penguins Wings rematch in the finals.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) In the rookie year. It would be freaking stupid to go with a ton of rookies if the team tanks this year because you'd be asking for attendance to plummet. I mean stupid. If the Sox suck, they'll need to trade there guys, give the kids a look, evaluate, and than utilize some of this kids, trade some of those kids for other assets (proven or unproven) and find a way to make a splash to attract fans and essentially show Sox fans that they plan on contending, therefor, ticket sales might be saved. I'm not saying the Sox will do it, but it will be essential for them to do just that. And I personally think getting another outfielder isn't that bad of an idea since the Sox have zero in the words of upper echelon starting pitching prospects and might need to use some of those propsects to get us a top flight pitching prospect, especially since I'd much rather see the club spend decent money on a free agent bat or two than a free agent pitcher because spending money on bats is typically a far far better investment option. We haven't done a ton of rookies in what, 10-15 years? The Sox are always plugging a new cheap guy into the line up to try to save some payroll. With the hype surrounding this minor league system right now, do you really think Kenny Williams is going to go out and spend money on anything but pitching? I just can't see it.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) And that would be a big mistake, since the Sox only have one prospect in the minors that projects to play in the outfield, Jordan Danks. Shelby is another guy but you don't not sign someone because of John Shelby. Allen is a 1B/DH. Beckham is a middle infielder. Quentin is an outfielder, so bottom line the Sox will most likely need to add an outfielder if they want to compete. If they don't, sure they can stick and hope every prospect pans out, but it wouldn't be the smart way to quickly rebuild. Historically the Sox don't spend free agent money, especially when they believe they can fill positions internally for minimum wage. I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of Getz, Beckham, Ramirez infield with the winner of Viciedo and Fields in left.
  10. Detroit it is. I don't hold out much hope for the Hawks, but I can dream. This is the team that is taylor made to beat Chicago, as they are physical and just as skilled as the Hawks. Let's hope that the boys can come out and steal a game right away to get them going.
  11. 3-2 Wings after two periods of play. I just don't see Anaheim coming back to win in that building... Hopefully I am wrong.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) I think you might be speaking far too quickly on Josh Fields. Even if you don't believe in Fields, we still need to make a spot for Beckham as well, not to mention a Brandon Allen, Jordan Danks, etc. We just aren't going to spend a lot of money or prospects on an OF at this point.
  13. With either Viciedo or Fields making the shift to LF in the near future and TCQ going to right, we are not going to pay 8 figures for an OF. It just isn't going to happen.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) I think if things don't work out, anyone expecting the White Sox to be able to dump their larger contracts for halfway decent prospects are going to be in for a rude awakening. A lot of that depends on who is in it. If we are talking about the big spenders, like BOS, NYY, and LAD they will spend as usual. If we are talking about teams like STL and KC, they won't have any money to spend. It might also hurt the Sox if a lot of high dollar teams are out of it and looking to dump players, such as LAA and DET.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) We really need Q and Alexei to find their grooves and for Gavin to find his. Our bullpen is out-performing last year's pen, we have 3 starters we can count on most times out, Konerko is hitting better than last year, Anderson is hitting better when healthy, AJ's still AJ, JD's still JD, Thome's still Thome. We can work through things like Fields and Getz struggling, esp. if Konerko keeps hitting, but we need Q and Alexei to find their grooves and for Gavin to stop being an automatic loss. Great post. Our slump buster is going to be getting healthy and getting the guys who should be performing, back up to par.
  16. Am I the only who wonders if Contreras is indeed not feeling any pain right now? He is having a problem with location, which could very well be a product of having a sore achillies and not being able to plant and fire consistently because of it. Without a solid finish, his release point could be deviating a lot, which would explain the wildness, especially in the forkball which he has to over throw to make sure it is down, and has been bouncing into the plate very often this year. We know Jose hid pain from Ozzie last year, would he be above doing it again this year in an effort to get back to play before his contract is up?

  18. Well since it was brought up, here is the latest... http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2009/05..._fields_vs.html
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) 'Why not? One game can make all the difference in the world. Why not send Lillibridge down when Nix came back? They had the back up infielder. Lillibridge has shown over and over again he has no business collecting a major league check. His performance is almost historically pitiful. When they called up Nix, they had yet to see him play SS, so they didn't know if he could handle it or not.
  20. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) 57 strikes in 108 pitches? Man, his location is shot. he may not have given up runs, but I dont think major league players are going to let him off the hook with all of those walks like the AAA teams will I think Kal posted he was 39 strikes and 35 balls at one point, so something changed...
  21. If Owens, Wise, or Anderson pan out, Lilly most likely has about 25 ABs by now. You can also throw in the injuries at different times to TCQ, Dye, and Thome for giving the guy playing time as well. With Nix showing he can field in the IF, as soon as the injuries clear up, most likely when Anderson is ready to go, The Bridge is on a one way back to Charlotte until he cuts down that swing.
  22. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) FWIW, it's a pretty stupid decision on his part. I understand the reasoning behind it, but its wrong. The surprising part was that he pretty much took the GOP reasoning as his own for not doing it.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 14, 2009 -> 08:49 AM) Not to get ahead of ourselves, but can I add Go Hurricanes and home-ice advantage for the rest of the playoffs? Yes, you may as well.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2009 -> 08:22 AM) Might I say "Go Ducks and home-ice advantage"? Yes, you may indeed.
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) When he wore #27 he played like we'd expect Josh Fields to play. When he wore #22 he played a lot like Scott Podsednik. He now wears #7 and he's producing like Jerry f***ing Owens. I miss the #22 approach...
