Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Acquiring Peavy will just prove my point. The one you told me was wrong. I just don't want to see the BS if he says no and KW goes back to his $.50 routine wondering if they will be able to pay the electric bill.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) But it shows they aren't at or over their salary limit like they have been preaching. I'm not suggesting they just give all that money to the next guy. What I'm saying is their every dollar in goes out isn't accurate. They obviously have some cash laying around. You got your perpetual message out... Yes Kenny is cheap, now quit spoiling the thread and move along.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
SI is reporting the Sox want an answer from Peavy today, as he is scheduled to pitch tomorrow.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
The update from WSCR is that the only pitcher on the 25 man roster in this deal is Clayton Richard. Also Aaron Poreda is in the deal, the other two are not known for sure and they didn't speculate. No more mention of Giles/Dye like there was in the first hour. This is coming from Joe Cowley FWIW.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
The Score is indeed reporting the deal is done pending Peavy approval, no mention of players at all.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:25 AM) Wait, did we just go from Bailey for Dye to Peavy for Dye? Why would the Padres take an aging RF when they're trying to rebuild? I would imagine they think they can get some value for Dye at the deadline.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:21 AM) The Score is actually saying Jermaine Dye is in the proposed Deal. That means the Sox are only adding 5-6 million dollars this year. Actually that is in the 6AM hour of Mully and Hanly that is on the top of the site archives.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
The interesting thing is that San Diego would be about $6 mil under their owner mandated number, could cash also be involved? http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/200...te-sox-may-be-/

Pure Spectulation
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) Everytime I b****ed about the payroll going down and prices going up, and mentioned all the money coming off the books after this season, you came back with all the lost sponsor money, how the Sox spending money could destroy the franchise etc. Now some 14 year old comes up with a false rumor and you now agree with me there is plenty of room for additional payroll. Amazing. At least now you think the White Sox haven't spent every dime that comes in, and when this rumor turns out to be false, you will post some more about adding some payroll. I'll keep this really simple 100-40+20 Long term the Sox would still be cutting payroll. Not to mention this rumor has been reported as being legitimate out of the San Diego clubhouse of all places, so maybe you need to find yourself a 14 year old for a source, because this one seems on to something. Not to mention that Jerry has always been open to adding a player who is special. They did the same thing with Torii Hunter a few years back.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
I will say a deal like this makes sense in one aspect... Hawk has been hyping the s*** out of minor leaguers. It doesn't surprise me that he would be trying to build major league value in them. I thought it was just in case the Sox stunk and started next year with many of the players on the roster. It would make sense that he is doing the old Yankees/Cubs prospect PR hype to increase their value trick.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) You said signing players this offseason was financial suicide for the White Sox. Now picking up Peavy makes a lot of financial sense? For some reason, I don't buy this rumor at all. We have thirty or fourty million coming off of the books, this signing would still lead to a decrease in total payroll year over year... Why is that so complex? And please quote where I said that.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) Here's the spectulation... http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx...x&tid=99890 Interesting. A couple of things make it possible, dispite the Peavy salary. First of all, we have a ton of salary coming off of the books in the next few years. Secondly we are LOADED with offensive players. In reality, I would poop myself it ever happened.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) We're talking about this in the chat. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat The rumor from that board is a deal involving Richard, Poreda, and two PTBNLs. Yes, it seems ridiculous; but to everyone doubting this the person who posted the rumor supposedly has been correct in the past. Is there a link to the story?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
QUOTE (WCSox @ May 20, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) Remember that the Sox traded away their best pitcher and closer while 3 1/2 games out in July, 1997. The long-term matters, and this team isn't any better prepared to win in the postseason than the mediocre '97 squad (nor did Kenny invest anything near what Schueler did in that team). I could see Ozzie moving Floyd to the 'pen or them putting him on the DL with a fake injury and a rehab stint in Charlotte. But I think it's more probable that they keep pushing him out there until he's able to make the necessary adjustments. With Contreras sucking even worse and Richard's inconsistency, it's not like they're flush with replacement options. That won't happen today. The Sox learned that lesson when that blew up in their faces.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
QUOTE (ptatc @ May 20, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) But not necessarily short term thinking only. They will sacrifice some games to get him right and producing in the future. The same with Getz and Fields. The team will let them go through growing pains to see what they have for the future. Players go through a learning process and people just need to be patient. The classic cliched example is Robin Ventura. How many people on this board would have wanted to get rid of him during the 0-41 to start his career? That isn't struggling that is horrible. Yet , the sox learned by the way he was handling it, that he could be productive later on in his career. So, as much as it hursts in the short term. We must have patience. Who is to say that Floyd won't get more confidence out of the pen in very specific situations taylored for his own success versus going out and getting his ass kicked all over the AL? Who is to say that two weeks away from the game, followed by some starts against AAA teams won't allow him to work his mechanical problems out, all without the pressures of each pitch being important?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) Because they have invested so much in him as a top of the line starter for this team, the positives of trying to let him work his way out of his funk far outweight the possible negatives of moving him to a pen role and him never coming out of it. He's a starter, either here, or somewhere else. The positives of winning out weigh anything else.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) I seriously doubt it, and Floyd's problem isnt confidence as much as its a small mechanical flaw. The best medicine for him is to run him out there. Why would you seriously doubt that the Sox are going to run the players that give them the best chance to win out there? If FLoyd keeps getting lit up, they will get him out of the rotation, I have no doubt about that.
