  1. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 12, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) Well, when it comes to baseball, or any subject for that matter, I'm an idiot, or so I've been told (repeatedly). At least I can laugh about it. I have mentioned this before, but I will repeat it for the new posters. After 30+ years of following this team, you have to enjoy the sport and the entertainment that is White Sox baseball. Perhaps I am one of the last of Veecks "World's biggest saloon" holdouts. We are not Yankee fans who can expect to win a Championship a few times per decade. So I accept what is on the field and enjoy the season. I am not going to lose sleep over it, getting mad about it is about as sane as getting mad because Jennifer Aniston made a crappy movie and you are a fan of hers. Allow me to post a few Bill Veeck quotes that I appreciate. The most beautiful thing in the world is a ballpark filled with people. Bill Veeck The true harbinger of spring is not crocuses or swallows returning to Capistrano, but the sound of the bat on the ball. Bill Veeck There are only two seasons - winter and Baseball. Bill Veeck What can I do, I asked myself, that is so spectacular that no one will be able to say he had seen it before? The answer was perfectly obvious. I would send a midget up to bat. Bill Veeck Somewhere in there is why I love White Sox baseball. A long time ago I accepted I may never see a Sox World Series, I was wrong. But I have accepted I may never see another one. Every win, every player like Mark Buehrle or Frank Thomas, is to be cherished. So some fans, including many here, can get frustrated and s*** all over my team, but that is your choice and how you want to enjoy this team. The saloon is big enough for everyone. Just don't get annoyed when I cheer when you want to spew a profanity laced diatribe at the team. I often times wonder if many of the negative posters here are just trying to convince themselves how smart they are about baseball by posting the 1001 ways a team can fall apart and lose.So in the end who is smarter? The fans who enjoy the boys of summer, or those who spend so much time and energy saying this team sucks? That is a great last paragraph. If you are miserable, you are doing it wrong. Turn off the TV and find something you enjoy instead.
  2. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) The Sox just don't deal with Boras, PERIOD. They've already released their first Boras signing in forever, Ben Broussard, and that was just a minor league deal. The Sox and other teams wouldn't sign Porcello for what, $12 million? The Sox have a hard enough time trying to give out $50 million to their established players. To be fair, the release had nothing to do with who Broussard's agent was. It was because BB sucked.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) ...and you fools all laughed when I called Hawks in 6. We're going to play the Red Wings. No way the queer Ducks beat them. It'll be a damn battle, but once again, Hawks will win in 6, and they will play the Caps in a 5 game series and win the Stanley Cup. Please God, GO HAWKS!!! I said months ago that we could beat any team outside of San Jose, Detroit, or Boston. Now the boys need to prove me wrong.
  4. Kap, it is still weird to see Torch involved in putting a team a series away from the Stanley Cup finals, but I will take it! HELL YEAH, BRING ON DETROIT b****ES!!!! FINAL f***ING FOUR!!!!
  5. HOLY s*** THIS IS A LIKE A HEAVY WEIGHT PRIZE FIGHT
  6. I don't see how you keep anyone but TCQ and John Danks.
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ May 9, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) Doubtful unless they are all going to turn on their own guys. This comes down to the new law that will allow Savio's letters to be admissible in court which will help to establish intent. SOunds like the law might be unconstitutional, because it deprives Peterson of his right to confront his accuser, in this case, his dead wife.
  8. That was a stupid f***ing penalty by Buff. No need for that at all.
  9. Buff is the one guy on this team that is built for playoff hockey. That big body is a huge asset when the game turns into a grind, instead of the wide open style of the the regular season.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 9, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Well, not bias for bias sakes, I think themes. Okay, I mean, eliminate balance - not meaning you don't give the other side an opportunity to respond should there be two sides in a story - rather, just because you write a negative story doesn't mean you have to balance it with a positive story. I think what I appreciate is the idea of a theme the paper hammers. The best stuff that happened in the tribune was Blago, OBama-Rezko and (back a little) the death row inmates scandal. They took a while to develop, but it was stories the Tribune owned and it forced politicians to answer for them. I wish the same effect could be had of Daley. I really wonder why no one has taken Daley down yet. So many people have bit the bullet for him, and yet no one has ratted him out yet. It's odd.
  11. If the Sox had the number one pick, they would have no choice. They could not pass on the face of a franchise. They would have a much better sell to the fans in drafting him and not being able to get him signed, versus passing on him all together.
  12. Chevy Chase wants his royalty check.
  13. Have we really just turned into a cliche?

  16. So is tonight a "must win" for the Hawks? I say yes.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 8, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) I was sitting behind the White Sox dugout tonight, and I know Contreras was bad and has been bad, but some of the classless people around there are way out of line with what they are yelling at him. The guy is perhaps the biggest reason there is a trophy at that park. He also is a guy that wasn't supposed to pitch until August, if ever again. Remove him from the rotation, but the Count will rise again, and all these "fans" will be singing another tune. I understand the whole, "I bought a ticket, I have a right to be an asshole" talk, the funny thing is most of the people who pop off didn't buy their own ticket, but saying disgusting things like what was being thrown at Jose shouldn't be said to anybody higher than Drew Peterson. The same types of things get said about players here too. It is embarrassing in any case.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 9, 2009 -> 05:14 AM) Why are we taking guys that throw mid to high 80s in the 3rd round? Mark Buehrle types fall deep into the draft like he did. Draft velocity early, wtf. I thought MB fell in the draft because he was a draft and follow?
  19. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Fisher didn't slap anyone. I think you mean Alston. FWIW, what Fisher did should have been 2 games. Yeah, I mixed up Alston and Fisher... The point still stands
  20. I find it interesting that the NBA has found its testicles when it comes to suspensions. There isn't a chance that Fishers slap was worse than Rondos two point takedown of Kirk Hinrich into the scorers table.
  21. Jim Thome is so important to this line up as its only real left-handed power threat. If we could get him back at a discount, I'd jump all over it.
  22. That's cool. All are welcome, even those who don't want to play. It is a great time, if you don't believe me, ask all of the people who have played before, and are making sure to play again.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) SI MARK BUEHRLE WAS RIGHT!!!
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 8, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) I find this piece here incredibly annoying, it's like they're desperate for something to talk about. http://amfix.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/08/dont...es-under-obama/ Yeah... an officer admitted being gay and got discharged from the Army... well no s***, it hasn't been repealed yet, whenever it happens it will be a pretty substantial change. Holy s***, we must really have ADD in this country really bad. Obama has over 3 1/2 years left in this term to repeal DADT. They're already coming after him as if he flip-flopped. IIRC wasn't Obama pretty quiet on most of these issues in the campaign? I mean he spoke the company line and all, but I seem to remember him getting criticism for this not being a bigger issue for him, with him being a minority himself.
  25. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ May 8, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) He's coming off a rain shortened no-hitter, has a 1.85 ERA, and 28Ks in 27.1 IP. "Isn't even close" is being a bit tough on AP don't you think? He needs to work on the walks, but clearly, he's closer than you're giving him credit for. Well for starters, Ozzie Guillen said he isn't ready, so that isn't exactly an odd opinion.
