  1. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) Except the difference is I don't start threads on any of those things. There are plenty of people on this board that smoke weed, have driven drunk, and have nothing negative to say about steroids. Im sorry that according to you, no one should have a different opinion about questionable subject matter. Im sorry that instead of saying nothing, I am one of few people who doesn't care to speak up on the other side of an issue like these. Im not trying to act like a badass, I never said smoking weed was cool and everyone should do it.. I never told people they should take steroids.. Yeah so what, I drive drunk sometimes. Pretty sure I said that it was a risk I choose to take, and never once said that its harmless and more people should do it. And once again, I never started any of the threads that those things were discussed in. Its a message board, its meant to talk about things. And just because I am usually on the other side of the discussion, I can always count on you and many others to follow my posts around to trash whatever I say. Much like the Polar Bear lady, half the posts in there were actually just people taking shots at me for no reason other than I have a different opinion on things. Or even in here, when I misunderstood what lostfan was trying to say and apparently im just looking for attention and should be called Britney or Lindsey now.. With all due respect, get a grip on yourself. If you want to take the opposite side of conversial things, you are going to get flack. I figured you were tough enough to handle it. I'll be sure not to make you have to stand up for yourself so I don't hurt your feelings anymore in the future.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Can you offer up a source on that? Google it, its not hard to find. Not to mention their history has always had them working underground on these things when they had agreements in place. Why would 2007 be any different than any other time?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) So your response is that you'd prefer a war. Thank you. At least that's an answer to my repeated query. Where did I say "prefer war"? I would prefer that Il go away and the military government fail and the country transition back to free. At worst it would be nice if an agreement actually meant that NK lived up to their end of the bargain. Past that, I would prefer we not keep enabling a madman to keep his military machine running.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Except in 2007, when they shuttered their programs, turned over a lot of their equipment, and let the U.N. waltz right in. It was pretty effective then. And they still operated underground the whole time, just like they did through every single agreement we have ever had.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) I think it's the best we can do. We have to be realistic with our goals in this case, given the weakness of our hand. The 2 priorities I have are keeping North Korea's nuclear program shut down and saving as many lives as possible. We've proven repeatedly we can accomplish those goals through long-term, determined negotiation, and I can live with that as a containment policy. Except NK has never quit working on their nuclear program, even when have had deals, and millions of people have still died of starvation. Our "policy" hasn't changed anything.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) So how do you define stop supporting them? Should we cut off food and fuel aid, and allow the people to starve? Haven't we tried that and wound up killing enormous numbers of people in famines before? Millions have people have already died of starvation, despite all of the aid, they are still going after nuclear weapons, and they are firing missiles through their neighbors, what exactly are we going to make worse? All of the things they aren't supposed to be doing with our bribes, they are still doing anyway. The "worst case scenario" is that they go to war with someone around them, which I truly believe wouldn't be so bad. Once the NK military saw how fat and happy their neighbors were, they would desert quicker than Saddam's army's did. Without the military to back Il, NK would collapse instantly. But I would love to hear how we what we are doing is achieving anything. What exactly are we preventing here?
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) What other option would you suggest? Invasion? Turning our backs on them and refusing to negotiate? That wound up with North Korea fizzling a bomb test a couple years ago. What other option is there out there other than rolling over, trying to keep as many people alive there as possible through food and fuel aid, and trying to take steps to undermine that regime over time? Stop supporting the regime that is killing their own people at an alarming rate? We keep negotiating with them and they still keep going forward doing whatever the hell they want to anyway, and getting more out of it. How is what we have been doing for decades working by any stretch of the imagination.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) ? At least the impression I got was that the big ones in L.A. in 2006 came about through a combination of a hell of a lot of text messages and a few statements by the guys on the latino radio stations out here. Are you referring to some other set of rallies or can you dispute the impression I got? In Chicago, the SEIU was the big organizer. I have pictures of them in their colored shirts directing traffic and organizing the crowds. The random gathering crap was a myth. The unions were totally behind the organization of this.
  9. No big surprise. NK is testing the US for weakness with the new administration. They know the UN won't do s*** about it, they want to see if they can extract further concessions out of the world, like usual. I am not quite sure why we always knuckle under to them.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) so i heard Obama got tea bagged sounds unpleasant More like half of the country is getting teabagged by the Obama administration...
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) And for those who dont know, these tea bag parties are not being organized by "regular" people. They are being organized by corporate lobbyists and Republican think tanks. The immigration rallies of the last few years were largely organized by labor unions and other Democratic organizations, does that diminish them?
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) cool thanks. No prob
  13. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Speaking of...video taken down. On the Sox site??? If the Sox were to theoretically make a YouTube user account, and post videos without having rights to the music, YouTube would remove said videos.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Jaque.Jones. Horry.Kow. LaTroy Hawkins...
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) ^^^ I needs me some vegetables with my baconator. Vegetables are what the meat eats.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) The new scoreboard in RF has a Boo-Meter. The question is can it filter out all of the racist boos, from the legitimate boos?
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) ChavezTalk.com Joe Crede was on the outs with the fanbase going into 2005. There was some hardcore Crede hate before he had his breakout season. People waited years to see the two time minor league MVP and were pissed about it. He got some nasty stuff in 2004 and 2005. Heck I remember Vinny Castilla talk from someone... Talk about brutal, at least Chavez was good. People were bringing up Randa and Castilla.
  18. Am I the only one who remembers people wanting to sign Joe Randa in April 2005?
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) You're absolutely right. I mean Alexei has earned some good will too on this very team. But I just think Getz and Wise is the perfect comparison because one guy took over for the other the next day. And then proceeded to fail. Getz hasnt done anything for the Sox org, Wise had clutch RBIs last season. I'd like to think the fans know Wise isnt an ideal leadoff hitter, but I have to wonder how many of those people booing know his exact career OBP and age. People are all over Getz because he is an unknown quanitity with his future ahead of him. Its the same reason people are clammoring for Beckham, Viciedo, Brandon Allen, Jordan Danks, etc, etc. That has nothing to do with race. People are always wanting the next big thing, not the guy who you know all of his holes. Its the same reason the most popular guy in most cities is the back up QB.
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Well youre asking me to prove that a racist would never buy a Kobe Bryant jersey. I cant do that. To me what we're discussing is a lot more subtle than that. It's not just Scalabrine though, I mean the popularity of college basketball and hockey are in part driven by things some would not want to face. It works the other way too, the NBA sells a big chunk of those jerseys to minorities and the Sox cap itself...we know what connotation that has had. The connotation probably paid for Albert Belle oddly enough. But you are willing to say that people rooting for Scalabrine are racists. I can't do that either. There are a million different legitimate reasons to root for a player that get ignored in that scenario. Heck one of my all-time favorite baseball players is Jeff Bajenaru. He just happens to have some absolutely horrible statistics at the major league level. Does that make me a racist? Uh, no. Baj was one of the greatest guys I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with, and that's what I rooted for him to make it, dispite his lack of talent. I know in basketball a proud tradition is rooting hard for the 12 man on the team to make an appearence, and then going crazy once he does. Could a large portion of Scalabrine's "fans" be of that ilk? The idea that people are only rooting for him because he is white is so incredibly narrow-minded it boggles the mind. I also won't say that people who are college basketball and hockey fans are racist for some unknown reason either.
  21. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Again with people bring up star examples. Obviously the all-out racist guy isnt going to hate Jordan if he's a basketball fan. Where the situation is really tested is when you have lower talent guys. In the case of Scalabrine, out-of-NBA type talent. So basically the only test that applies is if you narrow the window to such a narrow point that only one player fits through it? Really? This discussion is a waste of time in that case.
  22. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) That's my whole point though. No one touches the reason behind his popularity. He's a monumentally untalented basketball player who is cheered by the entire crowd every time he puts up a shot. It's really something to witness if yr ever flipping around and see the Celtics in garbage time. No one really touches on the reason for his popularity with a ten foot pole however. Thats where I wish we'd take the next step in discussion like this, nationwide that is. Talking more about what's unintentional but still a problem. Again this is something I see myself doing as well. Let's talk about the NBA then... I see zero, American born white guys on this list.
  23. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) I was going to send Brooks an e-mail suggesting the white sox open up a youtube account and post their "in stadium" videos on there. Anyone want to do that instead? Maybe someone who is a little more articulate than I. I got a reply back from Brooks today. To paraphrase what he said, they have looked into it before, and royalties are the biggest problem. If that could ever be fixed, they would have an account ASAP. If you don't have rights to the music, YouTube takes them down.

  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) There are the White Sox fans who grew up with Thomas from 1990-1998 and then the younger fans in their teens and twenties who tend to post more on these boards and have a lesser appreciation for him, because they never really saw in person or on TV how good he really was back then...they just heard about all the off-field stuff, the divorce, the bankruptcy, the sniping back and forth with KW and Manuel and the "he's an idiot" stuff. But here, chisox.com, wsi, etc., I think it was about 75% really in Frank's corner and 25% saying "get him out of the way and move on" basically. I have been a very active poster here since 2003, and I will say with complete certianty that there was no way that 25% of this board was against Frank. Especially in the pissing contests with Kenny Williams, I can't remember much of anyone who took KWs side of things. The backlash to the organization was very nasty both after the diminished skills clause was used, and after they started the back and forth namecalling. There might was a minority of people who recognized that it was time for Frank to move on because his skills had fallen off so far because of injury and age, but that is very different than wanting him out because he was not white. Soxtalk was at least 95% behind Frank when any of the controversies around him happened.
