  2. Home sweet Home Chicago
  3. Anybody know where Harold is tonight? I saw Daryl Boston coaching first.
  4. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) HAHAHAH at Guillen looking like an idiot. It's going to be great during the pregame interviews when reporters ask him about these drastic lineup changes. More like haha at all of the media and fans for looking like idiots. This is all so manufactured and predictable anymore, its sad. This is all part of the Guillen schtick, and everyone fell for it.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) In that case, the U.S. makes a fortune because we start selling oil that we bought at lower prices for $130, and we use that money to fund a legit alternative energy research program. A fortune? We don't have that much oil in there in reality. Especially when you consider that is supposed to be an emergency fund.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) It'll never actually happen, with good reason, but I read today an interesting suggestion for how to prove this isn't a "Speculatory bubble" in oil prices; start releasing oil from the SPR. If it's a speculatory bubble, the fact that oil prices have been going up is therefore one of the main things that has been driving oil prices up, not lack of supply or high demand or any thing of that sort. If you were to impose a downward correction on the market by pushing more oil out there, that would hypothetically be the pinprick popping that bubble. What's probably more likely is that if the spike keeps increasing, we'll see the same effect, as $4 and $5 a gallon gas keeps pushing people to drive less, thus driving down demand. So what is to stop OPEC from dropping supply to keep prices high? (see how that works? )
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) Curious to hear SS2K5's thoughts on this. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/39611.html The interesting thing is that the total speculative long position in front month Crude Oil as of Monday was 25,000 contracts. A week before it was 50,000, and the price had only falled about $5. If this was a speculative bubble, it would have been a much bigger price slam with that kind of liquidation of the specs. In other words the vast majority is hedging and/or taking delivery. I think I posted and article on here in the last couple of days that talked about the fundimentals of speculation in futures versus a buy and hold product and the fundemental economic differences in them.
  8. ONE of the reason's being given for today's sell off is Obama clinching the nomination is scaring the markets... I found that interesting.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) I have an awful lot of difficulty believing that Russia or China would be willing to go to war with the U.S. over what are frankly some fairly small financial investments in Iran (small when compared to things like, the business China or Russia does with the West) It would have been hard to imagine a world war fought over an archduke's assassination too, but it happened. For me the energy that Iran holds is key to China's futures. Its not hard to see them getting involved if the US went in and cut off China's supplies. Especially if the US cut off food exports to or imports from China trying to influence China's role there. It would really force their hand.

  11. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) i guess if you want walker to take all the blame, you have to say cooper is responsible for all of the positives w/ this pitching staff in my opinion, i think cooper has done a decent job, but other than Gavin, Danks and the reclamation project with Thornton, the other guys have pretty much pitched to their ability. just my opinion Good call. The results this year are hard to argue with.
  12. Also remember that AM radio carries better at night, although the storms will make listening to the game horrible.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Not necessarily. It's entirely possible she could be thinking "if Obama fails to take out McCain, we have another 4 years of disastrous Republican wars and mismanagement of the country, and there'll be a gigantic backlash within the party against the factions that helped Obama win the nomination and lose the general." In other words, she can play for 2012 and say "haha you made a mistake listening to the kids now vote for me!" And turn into Joe Liberman? Not gonna happen. After screwing her party for so long, she has to fall in line or she has no support from the Dems in '12. She knows that. She has already turned into a pariah in her party, if she didn't have the decency to support her parties nominee, she is done.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) Why do people constantly insist on saying that small regional wars against countries that have what, 1/100th of our defense spending would qualify as world wars? World War 1 and World War 2 litrally involved the entire globe. If a country wasn't directly attacked, it was probably either sending troops or money along. The only way that would be "World war III" is if you were planning on attacking China or Russia while you were at it. Mostly because it isn't hard to imagine a scenario where that stuff happens. Russia has supported Iran militarily and other means for a long time. China really really needs their oil. Throw in some other countries jumping in for this reason and that... There is your WWIII.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) Hillary will acknowledge that Barack has the delegates. I don't know if she will drop out and I really doubt she'll endorse him. She can still keep it up, trying to ply away pledged delegates, superdelegates, whining about this and that, etc. so that she keeps beating up Barack and gives herself a better opening for a 2012 run. She HAS to endorse him once he wins. It would be political suicide not to do so.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) According to Obama himself, the run for President was a one-time bargain with his wife. Supposedly. After that, he said, not again. Of course, we've heard that sort of line before, and they sometimes come back anyway. Or, like with Colin Powell, maybe Obama really means it. Hard to say. He also said for a long LONG time that he wasn't going to run at all...
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) CNN update on McAuliffe's denial. You have to read beyond the bluster, and see some key words there - that Obama doesn't have the numbers, YET. So of course he is saying this. When he does have the numbers, tonight or tomorrow, you'll see Clinton do some sort of concession. Unfortunately, it will probably be half-ass and petty, like everything else in her campaign has been. She won't endorse. Ah, yes the good old Clinton era...
  18. YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Cubano, I just want to say welcome aboard. Its great getting to see this sort of perspective about the Cuban league's from someone whose closer to the action. ^ Always great to get a completely unique perspective on things! Welcome to the site.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) I'm going to be a stop to this right now. Sox are going to win today!!!! The thread will also be closed!!!! oh, no you didn't!
  21. Hey SMD, question for you if you have the resources... Have the Sox and Cubs ever been in first place at the sametime when the played against each other in interleague play?
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) All of which are far more important to them than any of the issues we've been beefing with them on for the last 30 years. Especially with the young people, there isn't so much of an anti-Western mentality among the people as a lot of us think, that's just how they get portrayed in our media. I'd be curious to really see what it is like on the ground there. I really doubt there is much love for America there.
  23. Happy Belated to my favorite Sox historical player
