  1. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) I've seen a couple brief headlines and news clips saying that he isn't really popular with the Iranian people. Is there any truth to that? I have read a couple of stories to the effect as well. Internally he is viewed as weak at solving lots of the domestic problems plaguing Iran such as inflation, jobs shortages, and energy prices.
  2. Heaven just got a little more bluesy. RIP.
  3. Judging by the moves the Hawks tried to make this season, the off season is going to be a fun one. They will get a hold of at least one of the big named players, I would bet on it.
  4. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:14 AM) You're right, but would it be any better if he walks in a couple years? The way NBA free agency works it that only the teams with a lot of free money can sign players, and the only reason they have a lot of money is that they traded all of their good players and suck enormously. A top 5 NBA player isn't going to a team like that. Remember when the Bulls tried it and all of the top free agents laughed at them? At worst the Heat will get a bunch of players in a sign and trade deal. If it is forced by Wade, it is a totally different story versus the team doing it on their own.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) I'm just curious- since when is a 6'9 player going to be an inside force? Will he be able to score on/defend guys like Ilgauskas, Garnett, Bynum/Gasol, Rasheed, Tyson Chandler, etc.? Elton Brand
  6. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:40 AM) I can't imagine they'd actually do the Wade + #2 for the #1. But if I'm the Heat, I at least think about Wade + #2 for #1 + future 1st round picks (2, say) + Deng + others, IF I'm fairly certain I won't be able to hold onto Wade for more than the next two years. They'll almost certainly have a fairly high pick next year, too, and Rose + Deng + 2009 lottery pick + other 1st rounders is not a bad nucleus for a team that can't avoid a pretty significant makeover. I'm not sure I'd do it, but I'd think about it. There's a big pr hit, of course, but they didn't seem to be drawing well this season, anyway. I remember one Heat-Cavs game where they had an astonishing number of empty seats. It shocked me that they couldn't get people to go to a game like that, if just to watch the Wade-LeBron show. If you can get a D-wade and still keep your #1 pick, I don't care who on this roster you trade away, you do it. I still don't see how Miami could make a deal even with a Deng in it. That would be a death knell for that franchise. You might as well back up the truck and trade away everyone.
  7. This game has 1-0 written all over it if the weather permits...
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) While I appreciate Ozzie's fire and frustration, going off like that to the media was wrong. The same message could get across in private conversations probably a lot better. Ozzie was criticizing White Sox fans for criticizing the team not too long ago. If he wanted some offense yesterday, how about letting your best hitter currently, hit? The team went something like 12-3 after the last time Ozzie went on a media rant like this... I have no doubt this was on purpose because nothing else was working.
  9. I was surprised no one had made the Oakland/PED's post yet...
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 02:21 AM) He does realize that he'll be starting WW III then, right? That is what he wants. It would bring about the return of the final prophet and the end of the world, thus fulfilling his destiny.
  11. This can't be serious. Why would the Heat do this?
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Seems Obama's buddy, Ahmadinejad, is promising another Holocaust (again). "I must announce that the Zionist regime (Israel), with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion and betrayal is about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene," http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=08...;show_article=1 He's been saying it for years, except he gets the benefit of the doubt for some reason (well he didn't EXACTLY say to destroy Israel...)
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) This was a no win situation. As far as calling someone a friend for twenty years, we've all had friends who change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Saying good bye to an old friend is difficult, but sometimes it just has to happen. You want to give that friend every benefit of the doubt, and perhaps the error is to hang on too long. Seems like a very human response on his part. Of course what this really shows is why McCain would be a better President Hang on too long? I thought he never heard any of the questionable sermons? Sounds more like he is ditching this as quick as possible according to Obama's recallection of things.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 31, 2008 -> 07:28 PM) I wish he didn't do that. It adds validity to the BS argument that the church spewed hate for 20 years and it's obvious he's caving in to pressure. Him staying in the church would allow him to say "you guys' characterization of my church is wrong." Now he loses that and comes out looking like a pussy. And in the big picture is really looks bad when you contrast it with a guy who has called the leadership of the church his friends for decades, but now he is willing to drop them because of political pressures? Especailly when you add in this is the guy who makes a big deal out of being willing to talk to our enemies? Its pretty two faced if you ask me. More politics as usual.
  15. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) I love it when Millionaires tell kids who need to pay off 40k in loans about how money shouldnt be something you run after. If this guy gets in, he will ruin the economy like Carter did in the late 70s. He will tax what he considers those who make too much and it will bury our economy. No matter how you slice it, its socialism. Reminds me of guys who owe their political careers to oil money, who then go on to curse the petrochemical industries.
  16. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 29, 2008 -> 02:45 AM) ....and so you shall!!! I expected Pittsburgh to come out with all guns blazing last night, but I think Detroit takes game 4 to regain their grip on the series. Nah, it was a tease.
  17. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) Yes, its a different team, and yet....the exact same results so far...the comparisons, while seemingly unwarranted, are definitely noticeable. Offensive philosophy the problem? Aging power hitters who don't adjust? A s***ty hitting 'instructor'? I don't know what the cause of all the offensive mediocrity is, but the struggles from 2007 that everyone kept saying "Don't worry, they'll start hitting soon enough", are painfully visible this year, with a 'completely different team'. 2008 is a very different year if for no other reason than the pitching is about 2 full runs per game better. The starting pitching and the bullpen are WAY better. We don't have win win games 7-6 anymore.
  18. My first game thread of 2008, lets hope for a little luck! A win gives us a winning record on the trip
  19. People said the same things about 20 road games in May. We'll still in be in first place on June 1st. Enjoy the good times, let the rest take care of itself.
  20. Happy Birthday Alex
  21. 30-24 +2 games 1/3 of the way through the season on pace for 90 wins. In first place 40 days and 40 nights.
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 30, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) The NRA directly donates to candidates. They publish voters guides to the candidates most gun friendly. Are you seriously advocating the government establishing what Churches can discuss in their buildings? How would you enforce it? Could Pastors send in sermons to a government agency for pre-approval so they do not run afoul of the new laws? Apathy is rampant in our society, why stop Americans from getting involved? And why stop at Churches? How about the Lions, Elk Club, Rotary Int'l, DAR, should they too be forbidden to discuss politics or have their tax exempt status revoked? Or unions?

  24. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ May 30, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) NO ONE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED!!!!! The team who scores more runs, wins... Shh.
