  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) :headshake Softball is: A.) For girls. B.) For guys who can't play baseball. C.) Geezers who can't play baseball. Anyways, we lost to Jones in the 1st round of the state playoffs. But we got a good seed in the city and we play Prosser tomorrow. I wouldn't go saying that too loud anywhere but on a computer... Its a good way to get your ass kicked by a lot of big dudes.

  3. QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) I agree with you that this season isn't as important to win it all as previous years. However, I honestly think KW and JR are going for the juggular in terms of trying to make Chicago a "Sox town". KW has been going for broke the last 3 or 4 seasons, but JR really is going for it all this season. To be honest, I think JR and the management have been giving Kenny the same "effort" for years now. He gets whatever the income is to spend for payroll. The Sox have always been a zero sum profit team, and this year isn't any different. It just looks different because the Sox income last year was so much higher because of the trip to the World Series.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) We didn't have a 100 million dollar payroll during those seasons, and we hadn't traded our top prospect in order to put together a world-class pitching staff. Of course, KW was going for the WS that season. However, I think the organization would have been thrilled with a trip to the playoffs. This year, I don't think they'd be like the fat girl at the prom. Rather, instead of just being in the playoffs, they want to win it all. They wanted to win it all, all along. To be honest I would argue winning in 2006 is LESS vital than it was in 2004-2005 when the Sox were in danger of being completely over shadowed by the potential Cubs "dynasty" coming off of being 5 outs away from the world series. I am not quite sure which prospect you are referring to when you talk about trading away our best one, but for years we have been selling off the cream of our farm system in order to get players. Don't forget the screams when we acquired Freddy Garcia, Carl Everett, Robby Alomar and who we gave up for them. etc. Nothing has changed in the last few years except for the fact that we finally DID win a World Series, Kenny Williams has been going for broke for years now.
  5. Of course the state with the most to gain from this would be the one leading the way...
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Just out of curiosity, were the riots in Kabul that hurt 100+ a few days ago front page news in Chicago? They made the A section of the LAT, but as far as I can remember they never moved past the "World news" section. How much time is given to Muslim religious figures saying the same thing about their faith? Over the alleged hit and run? It was front page news, finished on the back page in Trib. There is definately more time given to disavowing and explaining people like Ahmadinejad, than there is Pat Robertson.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) I honestly think at least a few people from this site could've done a better job than this guy. on that payroll and with the Royals injury problems? It would have been really, really tough to do much better than Baird did.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) We weren't in World Series or bust mode when Crede was breaking into the majors. Also, Crede was a much more accomplished minor league player than Anderson was. Wait we weren't trying to win a World Series in 2003-2004? I think that is news to Kenny Williams.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Far more substantive, the accompanying quotes from London's majority mainstream Muslim community condemning the protests and the ideals of the protesters in no uncertain terms should have gotten broad national coverage, along with all of those images. Together, the story and the images reinforce what we know to be true – that there is a radicalized and very scary faction of Islamists that would still do the Western world harm given the chance, but also that they are a very small % of Muslim society who become increasingly isolated from the Muslim mainstream through their own radical acts. You mean you didn't get the invitations? Do we get the same quotes after a Klan rally, or those bastards to protest the funerals of the war dead? The closest we get is coverage of the biker gang who tries to shield the families from the protesters. We never see a mainstream Christian leader get equal face time to say that Christ told us to love one another and what these people are doing is wrong in God's eyes.
  10. I can't believe how many times I have said this lately, but good work Jason
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) He's 1 wacko with an audience of millions who controls pursestrings worth tens of millions in political donations and who has amassed a fortune through his business empire. He also ran for the 1988 Republican Presidential nomination, and has met with President Bush personally several times, both before and during his presidency. And millions of people weren't subjected to images of these protesters in Europe? There are many leaders, including the President of Iran who believe what these wackos had on their signs. Yet Robertson's words get portrayed there too, and we see nothing of protests advocating our genocide. I'd bet if the samethings were done in Iraq or Afganistan it would have been frontpage news.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) 500 wackos stage a protest in London. Doesn't seem like something that would get worldwide coverage. Imagine of 500 wackos could get that kind of publicity for their cause. I don't know at what point something should receive worldwide attention, but that just doesn't seem like it. Pat Robertson can say the samething and it becomes worldwide news, and he's only one wakko.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) Haha, he was talking about bat girl. Nice reaction though. Me doth think he Cubsess too much
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) For whatever reason, I have Mike Murphy on right now and he's offering up one of the most ridiculous questions I've ever heard. Would you trade Brian Anderson straight up for Juan Pierre? Is there a single person on this board who would make that trade? Maybe if they threw in Dempster and Zambrano
  15. This story to me brings up an interesting point in the bias debate. I keep hearing that the problem is news only reports what will sell. If this is the case, why wasn't this stuff plastered all over the front pages of newspapers? People would have scooped this stuff up, it would played well on all of the talkshows, great pictures, great soundbytes etc, and yet nothing. People eat up this kind of stuff, and yet it only ran in Europe.

  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Well look at Polite's numbers, im sure he will end the season around his career avg. BMAC is serviceable as a righty, and Jenks is lights out. Thornton is better than Marte was, Cotts will regress a bit, which is expected, and Nelson is old, but still needs some work to reach what he could do. Im not really that worried about the pen. Thats baseball though. Sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes you dont. He had a bad game, so did Konerko. Plus that was the best I have seen us against CC in quite some time. Not to mention Konerko could have tagged out a baserunner before Perraltas HR and missed.
  18. QUOTE(korntownballa @ May 31, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Lmfao. How is that a fact when Garland's never been injured in his baseball career? How is that a fact when Maddux has never been on the DL? Please tell me moron. Ah namecalling. Great argument there. Enjoy your time off. QUOTE(korntownballa @ May 31, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Lmfao. How is that a fact when Garland's never been injured in his baseball career? How is that a fact when Maddux has never been on the DL? Please tell me moron. PS while you are bored, read up here and tell me how many pitchers are hurt. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/injuries
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 31, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) Perhaps he isn't right now? Perhaps, but that wasn't the point. The point was destroying the kids confidence, and sending him down will do just that.
  20. Softball season starts for me tomorrow

  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:47 AM) Get his confidence back up huh? Yeah, nothing like a demotion to make someone gain confidence...... Thank you. No matter what you say to a kid when you are sending him down, the point is you are still telling him you aren't good enough to be here.
  23. QUOTE(korntownballa @ May 31, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) He's never been UNHEALTHY. And he's won at least 12 games for 4 consecutive years and this year he shall extend that streak to 5 years. I'd say that's pretty consistent. Injuries happen to pitchers, it is a fact of life. There is nothing to say he couldn't have something go wrong tomorrow. There is a reason there are only just over 100 guys who have ever done it.

  25. Its possible, but the guy has to stay healthy and consistant, which isn't easy.
