Cleveland Indians@Chicago Whitesox 6-3-05
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) Man, have we gone soft or what....no doubt this team is playing mediocre recently. ================= CLEVELAND SUCKS CLEVELAND SUCKS CLEVELAND SUCKS EAT s*** BASTAGES What happened to the rivalry with the hated tribe? Shame on you, so called Sox fans Must have been back when Cleveland was actually good, and their fans actually went to games. I have to laugh while looking back because I used to always hear from my Indians fan friends about how great of fans they were because they would sell out every game. Then they fell apart and their attendance has fallen by over half. Indians fans are just the biggest bandwagon fans on the planet.

France Rejects EU
How about the President of the EU from Luxembourg? He thinks the two no votes have weakened the Euro and that it is still overvalued when compared to the dollar http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?t...storyID=8689518

Al Qaeda on torture
This is a fairly far out op-ed, but there is an interesting part in here about some of the tenets of Al Qaeda. One of the things they teach is to use the US media for "spreading rumors and writing statements that instigate people against the enemy" and that "brothers must insist on proving that torture was inflicted on them by State Security." http://www.techcentralstation.com/060305B.html

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) But who will be our starting catcher next season? AJ is still arbit eligible. Pretty much if the Sox want him, they own him for another year.

Twinkie Train
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) Agreed. If the sox keep winning games, they'll make the playoffs. If two teams from the AL central can make the playoffs, so be it Which would be awesome, because it would mean at least one of the Yankees or Red Sox would be staying home.

Allow me to open a big, fat can of worms.
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Fair enough, but since 1987 no one has started more than 37, and since the mid 90s no one has started more than 36. With a 5 man rotation, the most you'll get is 34, maybe 35. I'd be willing to bet El Duque has missed more games than Wood the past 5 years... or at least it's close. Kerry Wood was also the Cubs opening day starter, while Hernandez was the Sox #5.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) Two years, Wood missed about 9 starts each. Name me a pitcher who has started 36 games (not including playoffs, of course) in the past 20 years. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/GS_leagues.shtml

Allow me to open a big, fat can of worms.
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) By the way, if you re-read my statement about the Mariners, you will realize that you completely missed my point. I said that a 53-game record is not indicative of who the best team in a given year is. Next time, I will make sure to spell out each and every point extra carefully for you. 70% of teams leading their divisions on May 31st end up in the playoffs. That is a pretty solid indicator.

Soxtalk's March to a Million
Recently Soxtalk pushed past 700,000 posts (of which only 30K plus are mine, contrary to popular belief). The discussion then began to revolve around when Soxtalk would reach one million posts, so we decided to have a contest. The prize for winning is absolutely nothing but the awe and respect of your fellow posters. And with that being said, here we go. Try to pick the EXACT DATE that Soxtalk will register its one millionth post. All we need is the day, month, and year. (such as January 1st 2005.) For the tiebreaker, if necesary, post who you think will make the millionth post. (if you think it will be someone yet to register, vote newbie) I will close this thread at 3pm CST on next Friday June 10th. Good luck

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) *cough*lazyass*cough* I am shocked that you would insinuate that... It is the 40 extra pounds that is the problem... well that and getting off of Soxtalk for 3 hours to run a race.

Scott Skiles
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) He's just not that good. He's asking for too much, too long. Him rubbing the players and/or organization the wrong way almost seems inevitable. He's a good coach, just not worth as much as he thinks he is, in my opinion. You don't pay a relatively unproven guy that much for one decent year. Just take a look at all of the former Coach of the Year's and top-notch coaches that quickly wore out their welcome. Unfortunately, I believe that Skiles will ultimately suffer the same fate. He's not that good? He turned a team in the toilet to a playoff team, despite huge injury problems, and a lack of a front line scorer. There isn't a coach alive who could have gotten more blood out of this turnip than Scott Skiles did. The only way the Bulls fail with Skiles at the helm is if the core players go back to being selfish idiots who won't listen. And if that happens, it isn't Skiles fault.

Linda Tripp, hero?
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Obstruction of justice is obstruction of justice. Period. Too many people get wrapped up in "it was just a blow job vs. Watergate - waaaay different". Yes, that part is true, but they both tried to conceal illegal actions as a result of an investigation. It doesn't matter what was going on, they both obstructed justice. Exactly. The spin on both of these is ironic IMO.
