  1. I can see the numbers fine. But I can also see the numbers on the radar gun. His speeds are down 6-7 mph over last year.
  2. Hey welcome to the site!!! And as to the thread question... Personally no. I don't think Shingo should be ROY. I still believe that a player who has played in the majors somewhere else, shouldn't be allowed to win ROY. Either that or establish an age limit.
  3. Go look at Delgados numbers. He is nothing like Jose Valentin. I don't think Jose has ever hit 45 HRs or drove in 120 plus RBI.
  4. And quite honestly I hate NASCAR. I think it is boring as hell. But that is just my opinion, and I can't take anything away from what it takes to be the best at it.
  5. It would have to start at the lower levels. Without HS sports there aren't college sports. It would be incredibly expensive for a HS to build a race track, and then buy race cars, parts, safety equiptment etc. The up front investment is hugely cost phobitive. We are talking about millions of dollars per facility. Plus can you imagine the zoning fits that would get thrown if someone tried to build a racetack in your backyard? And then to have this happen in tons of HS and college towns accross the nation?
  6. 40 yard sprint isn't in the decathalon. The shortest distance is 100 meters. And I seriously doubt that Sapp would make it in anything under 15 sec. Jump higher maybe. But throwing events in the decathalon are definately strength events in the shot and discus, and should be won by Sapp.
  7. I would be willing to bet that anything speed or endurance would go to Gordon. Strength would obviously go to Sapp.
  8. That is Exactly what I have been trying to say. You don't have to be an athlete to participate in a sport. Ergo the arguement that NASCAR drivers aren't athletes so NASCAR isn't a sport is garbage.
  9. Baseball is what I know best. It was an easy example to make. I could have used football or guys like Oliver Miller in basketball. The point is the you have to have these perfect specime type-athletes doing it to be considered a sport is absurd. Just because guys are small and skinny doesn't mean that they can't play a sport anymore than a 400 pound guy can't play a sport.
  10. Yeah probably a bad choice of words in retrospect. But the point stands, you don't have to be some great in shape athlete to play a "sport".
  11. And why is that? Do you have some kind of ergonomic mapping of Jeff Gordon's body that shows his realitve amount of fast twitch muscle in his throwing arm? Have you been on a closed circuit track with CC and his stock car? Do you know that a near 300 pound man could handle temperatures of upto 140 degrees for 4 hours straight with out going into heat stroke? What's to say if these same NASCAR drivers grew up playing baseball of their life they couldn't succeed as well?
  12. The Rock is what the Kansas fans smoke Chalk is what they sniff Jayhawks are their mascot. Any questions?
  13. But we are talking about whether NASCAR is a sport now. I think everyone classifies baseball as a sport right? The detractors are all railing NASCAR for how "easy" it is, how anyone can do it. If fat people can be superstars in baseball, doesn't that mean that anyone can play baseball? You don't have to be in shape to play baseball if you look at some of the people who excell at it. And to me that makes the anyone can do it, arguement, invalid as a reason to dismiss NASCAR as a sport. Heck if some fatass can be one of the best pitchers in the game, how hard can it be? That's my point. The arguement is absurd.
  14. I would tend to think you would need to be in better shape to drive NASCAR than to play baseball. Look at guys like Ponson, Colon, Sabathia, Kruk etc. Those guys are fat slobs. How many NASCAR drivers can you say that about?
  15. Pet peeve. 90 million in attendance, doesn't mean 90 million people go to NASCAR... Carry on.
  16. They did a history of NASCAR on the History Channel. That is the origins of NASCAR.

  18. For a guy who gets mad about stereotypes you sure like to throw them at other people
  19. southsider2k5 replied to Queen Prawn's topic in SLaM
Nope, but I have had them. Not as good IMO.
  20. Yeah we did. Got our butts kicked too. We played the teams that ended up placing 1,2, and 4th and lost all 3 games. But I played on a totally different team. One of the guys on our church team plays in Valpos rec league and I went down with that group.
  21. [cough]100,000 posts [cough]
  22. Can I have a dollar?
  23. Yeah the team that beat us is 11-1 also, so we lose the tiebreaker.
  24. I DEMAND A RECOUNT!!!
