In my opinion, the two factors that will affect Garland's 2006 season the most are... 1.) Will he keep his walks down like he did in 2005? 2.) Will our infield play great defense again? #1 is up to Garland. #2 has a good chance of happening seeing as how our infield stayed the same.

So you wanted to pay $15 million for our DH position ($10 million option for Thomas + $5 million option for Everett)? Not to mention the $3.25 million that Rowand would cost. So the Sox would be paying a combined $18.25 million for two positions (DH and CF). I sure am glad that you aren't the White Sox GM.

Getting Riske for Mota is nice though. Josh Bard sucks though, not that Boston really needs him.

I expect 23 HR's and 87 RBI's from a DH. I also expect a much better line than .251 AVG / .311 OBP / .435 SLG / .745 OPS. That's horrid. A healthy Thome will destroy that line and he's worth the risk. Everett at $5 million dollars is not.

He's just being respectful to the veteran Podsednik. I'm sure Ozzie already knows where Anderson is playing and that would be CF.

Don't you get that Thomas + Rowand would have been an even bigger risk to hit 48 homeruns in 2006? Thomas could not stay healthy for two straight seasons. And we weren't going to bring back Everett at $5 million, which was his 2006 option the Sox would have had to pick up. Outside of the homeruns and RBI's, Everett's offense was horrible. Did you miss him swinging at trash in the dirt every game? The guy ended the season with a .745 OPS. That's garbage from a DH. 48 homers? Thome = 33+ easily (Dye hit 31 HR's last season. How many do you think Thome will hit?) Anderson = ~15, if not more (Phil Rogers predicts 17 homers for Anderson)

Young isn't anywhere near as fast as Vick and the faster linebackers in the NFL can still catch Vick. If Young tries to be Vick, he will be caught and he will get injured sooner or later.

I doubt Minaya would offer that much (Heilman & Milledge) for Contreras but he did trade Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore for half a season of Fatolo Colon. But if Minaya DID offer Heilman and Milledge for Contreras and KW turned it down, I would be very sad. That would be quite a haul for one year of Contreras. Heilman and McCarthy could compete for the #5 spot in the rotation and the runner-up would go to the bullpen. Either way, we would still have six starters in case of an injury. And we'd have Milledge for years.

Javy better get back on the juice if he wants that kind of money.
