Milledge is a good prospect because he has put up really good numbers in high A and AA. Anderson Gomes hasn't even had one AB in the minors so therefore, he is just a prospect.

Frank Thomas signs with Oakland Athletics

Eh, I doubt he will. He's already getting $3.5 million from the Sox and if he plays the entire season for the A's he will earn $3.1 million on top of that. $6.6 million ain't bad considering he's a DH who hasn't played a full season since 2003. -

Agreed. I should probably dislike Frank for his stupid comments but I can't. I grew up on Frank. And as stupid as his comments are, they show that he probably just really wanted to play for the White Sox for the rest of his career. He just doesn't realize that he's a huge health risk and that's why he was let go. Another horrible quote by Frank... And Thome is Frank's friend?!? Jesus, what does he say about his enemies? -

Yep, okay, that's what I've heard. This part of the article makes Frank really look like he's full of crap... Wasn't Frank saying that winning a World Series was the most important thing in his career? Well, he finally won one and he's still more worried about not being on the Sox the next season? -

I just don't get it. He will turn 38 during next season. He has to know that he's in the twilight of his career and he has maybe 1 or 2 years left at the most. Why would he want to say anything like this when he must know that the Sox will retire his number and he will enter the HoF as a member of the White Sox? Even if Thomas was a great clubhouse guy, it probably would have improved. Isn't Thome one of the best clubhouse guys in the MLB? That's what I've heard. By the way... Good God, I just read the article you posted. I can't believe Frank said that crap, especially about a supposed friend like Thome. -

Ughhh, I love Frank and always will but he needs to get his head out of his ass. Frank has missed significant playing time in 2001, 2004, and 2005 as a full-time DH. Thome has only ever missed significant playing time last season and he has been a full-time 1B every season of his career. Not to mention the fact that Thome is also over 2 years younger than Frank. Thome is also only one inch shorter than Frank but he's 30 pounds lighter. Frank is much more of a threat to get injured again. Only a fool would believe otherwise. I still hope Frank stays healthy, hits #500, and finally retires. All of this crap will be forgotten when his number is retired and he enters the Hall of Fame as a White Sox. -
4-seamer 2-seamer Curve Change I believe McCarthy learned how to throw a 2-seamer at Charlotte last year. His 4-seamer still seems to be as straight as an arrow though. Obviously, his curveball is great. When the Sox brought him up the first time to face the Cubs, etc., he didn't even use his changeup. When they brought him up the second time, his changeup was awesome towards the end of the season. Don't you remember how nasty it was against the Red Sox and Rangers? And he does throw his pitches for strikes. It's just that his fastball is often hammered because it's so straight. This is why he was so bad when he was called up the first time. Like you already mentioned, he didn't use his changeup at all and his fastball must have made hitters drool when that's all he kept throwing right down the pipe.

Do you also believe that a pitcher in the MLB with more wins but a higher ERA is better than a pitcher with less wins but a lower ERA? One game gave Young most of the hype you speak of. Sad...

Crap, didn't see that separate forum. Sorry.

I still don't think that the fanbase will ever grow until home games are televised.

Gordon and Thomas for Pierce was a pipedream anyways, unless the Celtics are morons.

And barely anything is known about Anderson Gomes so how can anyone say that he's a good prospect yet? Right now, he's just a prospect.
-
Okay, what specifically makes Gomes and Sanchez good prospects instead of just prospects? I'm curious.
-
I never compared Milledge to Anderson or Sweeney. I was comparing Milledge to Sanchez and Gomes. Unlike Sanchez and Gomez, Milledge has put up good numbers at high A and AA. Sanchez was bad in a rookie league and Gomes has never even had an AB in the minors. That was my point.
-
They are just outfield prospects, not good outfield prospects. Milledge and Anderson are good outfield prospects.
-
Ready for what? Their third stint in AAA? What evidence is there that either one will be ready in 5 years? Sanchez was bad at Bristol and we don't even know anything about Gomes. Just curious.
-
How are Salvador Sanchez and Anderson Gomes good outfield prospects? One was bad in a rookie league and the other has never even had an AB in the minors.
-
I just heard that he isn't any good in CF. I thought that he was fine in LF but maybe there's a reason they stuck him there.
-
And we still don't know if Owens is a fourth outfielder or a potential starter. Also, Sweeney is still very young but he has to start showing some power potential. But a future outfield of Anderson in LF, Milledge in CF, Sweeney in RF, and Owens as a fourth outfielder would be pretty impressive. I doubt I'd miss Chris Young much if that happened.

I said this last season when Contreras couldn't find the plate... everytime Contreras starts to nibble and walk batters, Pierzynski should go out to the mound and knee him in the balls. Didn't Pierzynski go to the mound and ream Garland out during a game against the Orioles earlier last season because he was nibbling too much? I think Garland went on to strikeout Miguel Tejada in a huge at bat. More confidence and a more forceful catcher are probably big reasons why Garland walked less batters last season.
