  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) I know they love this talking point, but the majority of the money going to the schools is ending up in their hands. If they brought a budget to the CPS taht said "okay, we won't take a raise as long as you promise to decrease class sizes and add desks" you don't think CPS would be all over that? Oh, I agree with you, I'm just playing devils advocate a bit. It's pissing me off because every other post on my facebook is from CPS teachers or former CPS students saying "Is you're against the teachers strike, you need to get educated." You know what, how about instead of calling people stupid, you f***ing educate us then. And you know who IS NOT getting educated? The students sitting at home because the teachers aren't in the classrooms.
  2. To be perfectly fair to the teachers (of whom I know plenty, I'm a product of the CPS system), the top complaint isn't their salaries, rather it is class sizes and overall working conditions/environments for the students.
  3. If I had kids in the CPS system, I know I'd be livid today.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) I haven't been saying that teachers have some terrible working conditions, just that, when they're at work, they're required to be "on" more than many other professionals. I haven't said that their jobs are the most difficult in the world nor dangerous. Here's my question: when they accepted the position of being a teacher, did they not know the conditions of their work hours beforehand?
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) Uh, yeah, that's the point. By the nature of their job, teachers can't waste nearly as much time at work as every one of us posting in this thread right now (I'm off today, so I'm only wasting my own time!) Do you realize how silly this is? "Well, he's wasting time on his job so I wanna be able to waste time too! It's not fair that he doesn't have to work hard!" You have a three month vacation every year! Plus winter break and spring break.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) soxbadger, every post you make during working hours only helps my point. Not even in the slightest. You are at WORK. You are being paid to do a JOB. That is part of the problem with this country. "I don't have any down time when I'm at work!" That's because you should be busy WORKING.
  7. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) This is about all I needed to see. Here are some interesting stats http://www.cps.edu/about_cps/at-a-glance/p..._and_facts.aspx and a nice blog http://www.chicagonow.com/windy-city-young...r-compensation/ Ah yes the Chicago Teachers Union. So according to the CPS, the average annual income makes a shade under $75,000 a year. Not so bad for working 9 months a year.
  8. If people decided to up and go on strike in most jobs, they'd get fired and replaced with someone willing to put up with the crap. CPS teachers apparently don't have to worry about that. I know lots and lots young teachers who would KILL to have the opportunity to do exactly what the teachers now are doing, for the same compensation.
  9. What a joke. You can't walk out on the kids. It's fine to demand more money or benefits or better work environments, but who loses most when the teachers go on strike? It's not the union, it's not the city, it's the kids. Try to get a deal done but do your f***ing job in the mean time. This has been one of the most violent summers in history. Here's a bright idea, let's cancel school and put more kids on the street instead of in classrooms. Guess what, everyone else in the f***ing country is working their ass off in s***ty work places and getting less money than they deserve too.
  10. I need Ray Rice and the Ravens D/ST to outscore Philip Rivers and Robert Meachum by 9+ tomorrow. 18 points from Randall Cobb on my bench. Rashad Jennings = *fart noise*
  11. What the hell is happening right now? Are the schools closing down?
  12. I'd rather have Ryan than Stafford, but that's also because I think Stafford was incredibly overrated last year. It's nice to have Calvin Johnson as your bailout. But Stafford is more of an injury threat than Ryan, and Ryan has more weapons.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 8, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) 17 hour workday including travel today, woo. They better give me Monday off. 15 hours was the average time of my work day from April to September.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 8, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) This Illini game is getting ugly. Ferguson and Young have been the only bright spots. It's bad.
  15. Who do I go with as my flex: Isaac Redman vs DEN, Rashad Jennings vs MIN, Pierre Thomas vs WSH, Justin Blackmon vs MIN? I'm leaning Jennings.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Somehow, I think he will go watch them. Maybe once or twice.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) How have I not heard of Lawless until today!?!?!? Going to see that ASAP. Loved it. There is apparently no limit on how badass Tom Hardy can be. Really good movie.
  18. Adidas' #thereturn videos of DRose are awesome.
  19. How have I not heard of Lawless until today!?!?!? Going to see that ASAP.
  20. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 09:27 AM) Stir crazy maybe. Not a whole lot to do in Rockford. Unless you like bowling. Damn.
  21. Anyone currently or previously live in Rockford? I'm moving out there for a new job next week. Wondering if someone in their early 20's is going to go crazy out there. I've gone fishing in and around Rockford hundreds of times, but I'd also like to have a good time out on occasion.
  22. Got a run in, played basketball and then a late night chest/shoulder workout. That's more like it.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 11:31 PM) They are harming those players who aren't using? If your success is solely related to drugs, then you are taking the spot of another player who could be up at the majors making that paycheck (without cheating). If I was a clean player, I'd be livid. And from everything I've heard, there are still plenty of people in baseball that are clean. I suppose I'm far more cynical on the subject than most. But it's based off of what I know, what I've seen and what I've been told.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 11:29 PM) It's the same way with the law. We know we are among undetected criminals, but we aren't a dick to everyone just in case they're a criminal. No, we just focus on those that are caught. It's the only way to do it that doesn't make the innocent catch s*** they don't deserve. Except these criminals are harming innocent people. Players using PEDs aren't harming anyone else.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) They are still the one's caught and they should be crucified. They cheated. Just cause others are getting away with it, doesn't mean that if someone tests positively for PEDS, they shouldn't be booed for the rest of their career. Couldn't disagree more. The guys who are using and getting away with it are ok and we can still root for them, but the guys who get caught are evil and should be ostracized? Ok.
