QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) Marcus Semien will have a .600 OBP and that will be enough for everyone I initially read that as OPS. My reaction was much, much different.

The fact that we're lauding a guy for a .330-ish OBP upsets me. That sucks. Aim higher. We need guys who can get on base.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) I wouldn't worry if I was Fla St. If they win out, people are so intrigued by Winston and wanting to see them play the big game, I'm guessing they'll get pushed in the polls. I would have a hard time believing this year will feature 3-4 undefeateds from major conferences. There's a long way to go. Was talking to some co-workers and you have to think maybe the playoff comes a year late. What is Bama, FSU, Oregon and OSU all finish undefeated? -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 08:07 AM) Florida State completely trounces NC State and drops in the BCS poll. I have this feeling of dread that FSU runs the table and sits at 3 because Oregon and Alabama don't lose either. Won't change next week either if Oregon beat #6 Stanford and we beat #7 Miami. Basically have to hope Stanford or Oregon State can pull off an upset. -
Seeing this thread makes my heart hurt. I miss college.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) 90s Florida State is back That 1st quarter against NC State was the team collectively saying F-U for the upset last season that cost them a potential shot in the title game. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 27, 2013 -> 12:20 AM) Nobody knows pain like a Mizzou fan knows pain. Par for the course. Congrats Miami for beating wake forest. Miami will be the #5 or #6 team in the country next week. And that's a God damned joke. Hopefully it'll look better on the resume for FSU down the stretch. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) I just want to throw it out there that Mike Rosenbaum had a year end top 100 prospect ranking and had Aaron Johnson 44 and Marcus Stroman another BJ pitcher (AA) at 46. Rosenbaum is admittedly a White Sox fan but didn't have Erik Johnson in the top 100 but said he'd be in the top 110. I don't see how a guy who put up a low 2's ERA in AA a mid 1's ERA in AAA came to the ML's and pitched decently isn't listed higher than those 2 Blue Jays. Anyone want to take a stab at explaining that to me ? He qualified for the list since he didn't pitch more than 50 innings at the ML level. I know rankings are subjective but omitting Johnson seems ridiculous. Aaron Sanchez is one of the elite power arms in all of minor league baseball. He's incredibly polished for his age, and the number of scouts who talk about how "easy" his fastball looks is pretty remarkable. I've never heard a negative about the kid from any scouts. And Stroman is MLB ready. Great numbers at AA and had he not been suspended 50 games, he might already be in the bigs. Stroman is the real deal. He surprised a lot of people with some dominant outings this season.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) I've read it's in the 94-96 range and as I mentioned earlier his K rate dropped to under 1 per inning when he made the jump from A to A+ . I think a guy with a 97 heater and nasty secondary stuff could K at least 1 an inning in A+. I know the Dunedin broadcaster - and know the Jays organization REALLY well. He's not going anywhere. Not for Quintana, at least. Sanchez had a few lingering injury issues, plus the Jays REALLY limit pitch counts and slow-play their young arms.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) Could be Quintana to Toronto for 3B Lawrie and RHP Aaron Sanchez. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) I like Quintana, but I would do this trade before Toronto could change their mind. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) oh boy bucket is breaking out some specifics.. what you think the likelihood we make a deal with the jays built around Quintana for Lawrie? QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) Tough to call likelihood. It's been talked about. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) Much more interested in that... QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) What can you folks tell us about this Aaron Sanchez, other than the fact that he is a chef on the Food Network? Aaron Sanchez is damn near untouchable. They moved top guys like Syndergaard and Nicolino and DeSclafani last offseason to get a Cy Young winner. Sanchez isn't going anywhere unless the Jays are getting a Felix Hernandez type. His fastball sits at about 97 and is rated among the best in all of MiLB and he's got nasty secondary stuff too.

There anything fun to do in Milwaukee?
-
Based off WBC and highlights I've seen online and on TV, he's going to crush any mistake pitch you make against him. Hanging breaking balls, high changeups, fastballs left belt high - those are toast. But can he hit a good fastball low and away? Can he turn on inside heat? And most importantly, can he lay off the junk out of the zone?
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 11:21 PM) He's a non-prospect. Too old for the level he was pitching at to not strike many guys out. Ok, thanks. Totally forgot strikeouts were the only way to gauge success. I'll just forget the times I watched him pitch. Tampa took money off our hands, Crain didn't throw a single pitch, and they give us a young lefty. Sorry for being moderately pleased. I'll move along.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) How would you rate hid mound presence? Man, I love a low WHIP. Very solid. Nothing bothered him. Gets in a good rhythm. Good curveball. Command is plus. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 08:35 PM) Says he was in high A and he's 25 so a little old for that league. I wonder if they start him in AAA next year. Hayes retweeted the Rays beat writer and the writer also said it involves another player and that the deal should be finalized tomorrow He turns 25 in 5 days. Started the season at Low-A Bowling Green, dominated, and then pitched very well in the Florida State League. He's already pretty polished, but it says a lot that (from what I recall) he was the first of the stud pitching prospects that Bowling Green had get promoted shortly after the MWL All-Star Break, and TB really takes their time with their arms. HIGHLY doubtful he starts in Charlotte. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see him start at WS and possibly be a quick mover next season.

I don't ever want to meet any of you schmucks.

Yard sale did NOT go as I expected. Rain cut me short and oddly enough, none of my athletic gear and workout equipment sold. Still made a pretty good amount of money for just sitting around most of the day, and I still have a decent amount of stuff that I might try and sell again on a sunny day. If anyone is interest, I have a White Sox 2005 WS bags/cornhole set that I'm looking to move, as well as a used Paul Konerko jersey.

IMO, complaining about not kicking the FG in the first is a little ridiculous. You're facing an 0-5 team. You have the ball at the 2 and it's your first drive of the game. With the confidence Trestman has in the offense, why not go for it? If you score, it's instant demoralization for the Giants. If you don't score, you still have the Giants pinned deep in their own zone. Even if you screw it up to the point that you turn the ball over, the absolute worst case scenario is some horrible turnover that goes 98+ yards the other way, and the chances of that are very slim. I was totally on board with going for it.

Need to play one: Justin Blackmon, Vincent Jackson, TY Hilton, Nate Washington. Currently have Blackmon in the lineup. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) Yeah - I bet you do well. Are you only selling YOUR old athletic gear. Aren't you freakishly tall? I'm 6'6. I wouldn't say freakish but I'm also not really selling any apparel. I've got a couple baseball bags, a brand new set of Nike spikes (size 14), workout equipment, etc. I do have a couple jerseys I'd like to move that might be big for all you little folk.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 11:44 AM) We had a garage sale a few years ago. Advertised on Craigslist. I had a bunch of Star Wars figures from Episode 1 that were unopened. We advertised that on Craigslist among other things. It was like 15 total figures, Darth Maul and s***. Complete garbage. Had about 10 cars at our house hours before it started just for that garbage alone. Also, and this was a few years ago, we couldn't give away a 21" tube television. No one would take it. From what I have been told, athletic gear, workout equipment and usable (somewhat modern) electronics will all go quickly. I've got plenty of that. Fully expecting a barrage of people at the crackass of dawn the very second we unfold a table.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 02:25 AM) Don't be surprised when early birds show up the night before trying to get first dibs. Not sure I'll have to deal with that in the neighborhood I live in.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 11:30 PM) Be prepared for crazy ladies. And don't overvalue your stuff Really good chance I'll do that. I plan on pricing things at "what I'd like to get for it" and be prepared to get offered 10% of that value for, like, every damn item. I have a ton of electronics and athletic gear to get rid of.

Anyone ever have a yard sale? Trying to hold one this weekend. Seems like a daunting task.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 6, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) It's just water and glycogen loss. When you reduce calories the body will turn to glycogen storage for energy. For every like gram or so of glycogen that the body stores, it stores multiple times that in water. Your increase in activity coupled with eating less had a doubling effect on this. This accounts for most of the initial gain/loss in weight that people see when they bulk up or cut down. Up your food intake and this weight should pop right back up really quickly. After a little bit of research, It looks like I should be shooting for 3500-4000 calories a day with ~200 grams of protein, 340-360 grams of carbs and 200-220 grams of fat per day. I'm going to do some grocery shopping tomorrow and load up on chicken, ground beef, whole grain bread, oats, peanut butter, bananas, pasta, and eggs.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 6, 2013 -> 06:56 AM) Last night I was sitting at my favorite island bar and a few guys were arguing college football. One guy was a huge Florida State fan. Knew just about everything you could possibly know about the program. When I asked him how a Seminole grad wound up in Longhorn or Aggie country he said he didn't actually go there. In fact he never even lived in Florida. It seemed like he just picked a top program to cheer for. Once he settled down he was a decent sort of chap, bought a round of drinks and told a few decent jokes. So how does someone become so enamored over a college or university they never attended? I get physical proximity. I get sending your kid to that college (Go Illini!!). I get having a family member work there (Go UTSA Roadrunner!!) But I don't quite get just picking some university and being a fanboy. Isn't it kind of weird in a way? Willing to understand. No ties at all to Florida State, but I became a fan when Weinke/Warrick were tearing it up and I fell in love. The logo/colors/Osceola were also easy to catch on with me, plus the great players that have come from there. Had I gone to a D1 college, no doubt that would have been my team, but I went DII and FSU stuck for good.
