  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) Which is why the other consideration to me was the 0.4 seconds by which Johnson broke the world record in 1996. Usain Bolt beats records while cruising. Come on now. He is the fastest human being ever. Just WATCH him run when he's actually trying. His acceleration and top speed is unmatched by anyone ever. Yohan Blake is an incredible runner and Bolt makes him look like he doesn't have a chance.

Finally starting to feel like my hard work is paying off. Got responses on back to back days and now I have two interviews next week.

    TV news is dead

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 07:25 PM) What market have you worked in? I was in a market where we had a two man team Reporter + Photog. I'd hear crazyyyy stories about the perks of being in a Chicago-sized market. Agreed though, TV news is doing alright and is still pretty viable as people are still watching TV and their content still works on the web. The real fight is getting people to watch local news vs the CNN's of the world. Lots of people don't care about the dogs, you know? They don't even care about the random people getting shot. Something big has to happen in many cases...or they just leave the TV on after their favorite show Grand Rapids and Chicago. Two man teams would be fantastic. I hate shooting but I don't mind editing all that much.

    TV news is dead

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 11:19 PM) Really? I thought it was kind of bush league to put a story like that on KC TV news. There has to be some real news that might interest people. I figured it was out of desperation with TV news on its last legs in KC. TV news broadcasts are normally broken down into blocks of different kinds of news. The big stories will always lead, that's called hard news, and then depending on the producer, they'll do a block of stories which are soft news. Those are normally personal stories which don't have great impact but they break up the newscasts from feeling like the world is ending all the time. TV news is doing alright. The transition to web-based news has put a damper on things, but overall, the quality isn't the same as it once was because of downsizing. Before, you'd have reporters, cameramen, editors and writers all to for one story. Now, the reporter has to do it all on their own. They get the scoop on the story and they have to drive out and shoot it all themselves. Then they come in, write the script, edit the video and present it on air. And most of the time, they're posting it to the web too. It's the "one-man band" and it sucks.
  5. Well, something good happened for Serbia today, as they whooped on the US in water polo. The handball team has been a major disappointment but they beat up South Korea today and have a play-in game against Hungary, Murray outplayed Djokovic and has to hope to beat DelPo for a bronze, Cavic blew a medal in the last 25 meters in the 100m fly, the men's volleyball team needs to beat Russia and then hope Brazil beats Germany to qualify for the knockout round.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 01:00 AM) For weeks ours would just piss anywhere. Eventually they learn. The one thing shack told me worked, when you clean it up with paper towels, place them on the pads, and don't change the pads often. Eventually she got the idea. Chewing is awful to deal with, we have 15 toys here but she will always find a table leg or something. He doesn't pee anywhere else but the pads now (inside the house) which is good, so there is nothing to clean up as the pads soak it all up. I read somewhere that puppies can't hold piss overnight until their 5 months old anyway, so we have about 6-7 weeks to go. It's incredibly rewarding to see some of the hours of training paying off. He's a smart pup and it's a ton of fun playing with him. My other dog doesn't do s*** because she's a lazy ass 9 pound piece of crap. Here he is...getting big.
  7. Dr. Pepper sucks, but I try to no drink any pop anyway. As far as porn, I chose option #2.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) I'd be furious at my players for being so lazy on screens. Ok.
  9. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) It is ridiculous because they're making everything in sight! They're shooting a ridiculous percentage and they're putting on a show. I understand the score is absurd, but it's a shooting display unlike anything you'll ever see. I'd be furious as an opposing player/coach to see them chuck 3 after 3 in the fourth quarter.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) US Basketball is playing well. Sorry, but this is ridiculous. They're chucking up 3's left and right, goaltending like they don't give a s***, etc. This is not enjoyable to watch at all. Sure, if your root for the US, this is a ton of fun. But even then, come on. No respect.

My puppy training is going well so far. He's learned to go to the bathroom when we say OUTSIDE, he knows how to give paw, and he's pretty obedient when we call his name and tell him to come. The only problem is that he still pees and poos at random times. The nice thing is that he knows to go on the training pads we have set out for him. The chewing is a problem too, but he avoids shoes and we just make sure to have some toys that he can gnaw on.
  12. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) 26/9/8 on 50% shooting, bravo It's incredible what he's been able to do as the #1 scoring option. He's the primary ballhandler and gets the attention of the entire defense and he still gets his.
  13. Luol Deng playing like an absolute superstar against Spain.
  14. I live in a city. I dislike living in cities. So in an effort to feel like less of a city-boy, I'm going to try to like country music. So far, so good.
  15. A nice perk about working in baseball: The entire park, gym and batting cages included, is at your disposal when the team is on the road.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) So I got a good response to my thank you, post interview letter. It basically ended with "I think you'll be hearing from me at the end of the week". Needless to say, I was feeling pretty good. This is a job that I really want and I truly feel it's a great career move, despite being all the way across the country. Now to confuse things for me, the president of the company I'm currently at sent me an e-mail saying he wants to discuss a significant adjustment to my compensation this week. I don't really want to stay though. I travel 40+ weeks a year and I don't want to keep working in television. I'm torn on how to handle it. I don't want to burn bridges or be disrespectful, nor do I want to hamper myself at my current job incase the new opportunity does not pan out. If/when you leave, send your company my resume! But seriously, take your time making a decision. You'll ultimately know what you want to do. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Slav, what kind of job are you looking for? Ha, good question. At this point anything. I've applied for all of the following positions: TV Production Assistant TV Associate Producer Radio Sports Director Radio Play by Play (baseball, hockey) Studio Host on TV and Radio Media Relations Communications Sports Information I'm apparently at a really s*** in between point where I'm overqualified for internships (and can't live off them) and underqualified for full-time jobs that I know I am capable of doing well.
  17. If the Sox go 31-27 the rest of the way, they win 90 ballgames.
  18. QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 02:47 PM) Whatever. I'll post what I want. Go for it. But normally when a moderator tells you something, you should at least take note.
  19. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) ive been wondering but never asked, why the sad smiley in your avi? I can't remember the specific reason why I decided to use it. It's been a while. General disappointment in people, probably.
  20. QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) This post is just like mine saying don't give the lead right back. No, it's not. Peavy has been pitching his ass off. Thornton has not done well in the 9th inning for a number of years now.
  21. QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) Clear. I'll only post "Go Sox" stuff now and optimistic Sox stuff now. Right, because that's exactly what I said. You have to be on either extreme end of the spectrum, no in between.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) It's a game thread. Get over it. If it annoys you then don't bother reading it. So I can't enjoy a White Sox game because a few people want to poop all over everything? Got it.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) WHY? Matt Thornton and 9th inning are like oil and water. Where have you been?
