Brown is good against the pass. Williams is good against the run. Williams is not good against the pass. Tmar.....do the math. -

QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) what? reed was not the point of my argument. i did not get the point of trying to use whether he is SS or FS against me, which is still disputed by the way. Demps was the teams FS starter for the first 11 games. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/303043/gamelogs/2005 he got injured, so Reed moved over to FS. None of this backs up your argument. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) But he isn't mediocre in coverage True. Mediocre = average to a bit above average Roy Williams is below average. Something isn't adding up Tmar? -

QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) ok so there are split opinions on what reed plays. doesn't even matter though, since i stated he was good against pass and run. that means he can play either FS or SS. haha way to try to find some way to make me seem wrong. :headshake -

QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Is Brown as good as Williams against the run? not quite. He is a small notch below. Brown is maybe average to slightly above average in coverage. it evens out. consider then that run is more important, and you have your winner. Mr. Williams. Don't they have replays of Cowboys games or somethign of that sort you can watch? You are slightly overrating him. -

If you've wached a Ravens game this season, you'd know he was a Free Safety.....often abbreviated FS. -
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) I got arrested at Indiana Beach, at the tender age of 17. I had a .12. Being under 18 my parents had to drive to Indiana from Chicago at 11:00 at night to pick me up from the police station. THAT was a fun ride home!!! Thats nothing compared to .9 lol.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Obviously SS most importantly must be good against the run but that is no excuse to be pitiful in coverage. He would be good for an OLB, but he doesn't play there, he plays SS which (while run is more important) must be strong against both to be as good as you claim him to be. You cannot be a great SS when you blow nuts in pass coverage. Let's compare Mr. Williams to Mr. Brown shall we? Both plays Strong Safety. Both are excellent against the run. Both are hard hitters. One can actually cover while one gets burned. Which is the better of the 2? The one who does not get burned. Therefore, Mr. Brown > Mr. Williams. That was my lesson. -

QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) hahaha do you guys not know what a Strong Safety is and what his role is? Alright i will teach you guys. Strong Safety (abbreviated SS commonly) is more of a LBer, hence more valuable in stopping the run. Coverage skills would be nice, but doesn't make or break a strong safety. Few besides Ed Reed have both. If you are below average in coverage and excellent against the run, you are one damn fine STRONG safety. A free safety (often abbreviated FS) on the other hand is more of a coverage back, with run stopping a secondary talent. If you have below average coverage skills as a Free Safety (FS), you are not a good free safety. So when you guys try to evaluate safeties, keep in mind that there are two different safeties. It does not work if you compare them to a different position. You wouldn't say "Urlacher isn't good at catching TD passes" cause of course, he is not supposed to be, otherwise he would be a WR. Roy Williams is a strong safety, run is more important than pass. Check and Mate. Thanks for the lesson Professor Football. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) A .9 BAC is nine-tenths of a percent of your blood being alcohol. .5 is usually enough to kill the great majority of people. .00 .01 .02 .03 .04 .05. 06 .07 .08 .09 .1 .11 .12 .13 .14 .15 .16 .17 .18 .19 .2 .21 ....... .9 .91 .92 .93 .94 .95 .96 .97 .98 .99 1.0 .08 is the Illinois limit. This man was ALL THE WAY at .90....that is a s*** load of alcohol. If that makes sense, than 1.0 mean 1% of his blood is contaminated with alcohol. 1/2% is lethal so this man was just loaded beyond belief.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) I could be wrong, but isnt a .9 the equivelent of 90% BAC? .01 is 1%.... Im either right... or am about to look like a total dong Dong.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) Haha just listening to Briggs, he sounds cool as hell. "What's it mean to be goin with so many guys from your defense?" "It's great not only becuase it shows how great our defense is but also I can try and find Tommie on the plane and bother him for a few hours..." LMAO. Even in the postgame interiews he sounds like a real down to earth guy. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) I can't say that. Harris has played well as a rookie, but he has a long ways to go and who knows how Brown will be 2-3 years from now. He's long talked about hanging it up at a younger age so he doesn't have to deal with all the long term effects of playing football. I do think Mike Brown will one day be a coach for the Bears (in some way shape or form). Hmm. I have never thought of that. I wouldn't go as far as Defensive Coordinator but I can see him as a Secondary coach or scout even maybe. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) There aren't many great safeties as is, but Browns definately amongst the best in the biz (AFC or NFC). Hell the best in the AFC isn't even playing this year (I happen to think Rodney Harrison is as good as it gets). At the same time Polamalu is a better version of Roy Williams. Pol plays the run tremendous but does have lapses in coverage. At the same time he makes some big plays in coverage and overall is a good Safety. I don't follow the Skins enough to tell you about Sean Taylor. I just know he's got a crazy skill set and has a ton of off field issues. I have no idea how healthy he was this year or if he even came close to living up to his hype. Than there is Ed Reed whose solid but on a lousy Bmore team. Lynch I'm guessing is gonna be in the probowl. He wasn't what he once was, but he's still solid. Your not going to name many safeties in this league that are better than a healthy Mike Brown, imo. Once again, I agree. I tell you, if it wasn;t for the off-field issues, Sean Taylor might very well be the best safety the league has seen since Ronnie Lott. He is great in coverage and good against the run. Polamalu is a lesser version of Mike Brown IMO. About as good against the run but like you said, not great in coverage. Lynch was always the top of the Safety crop in the NFC until he left for the AFC and the Bronco's. Lassiter was great in his days in Arizona and I agree, Rodney Harrison is probably the best in the game now. IMO, Harrison, Reed, Taylor, Brown, and Lynch are top 5 in thw NFL. But hey, a Pro-Bowler is a Pro-Bowler. In 2-3 years, Brown/Harris will be the best safety tandem in the NFL. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Brown made it because he's a very good all around safety, which also happens to be one of the key positions of the cover 2 defense that we run. Sure part of the reason he got in is because he plays on the leagues top defensive unit, but at the same time he's a large part of the reason our defense rocks. Brown plays the run about as good as any safety in the league and is pretty good at coverage. He also has the knack for the big play and rarely is outsmarted. He always takes good angles and aside from one game, he wraps his guys up when he gets them in site. Brown isn't a sexy player, but he's about as good of an all around safety as there is in this league. I agree. But you cant deny that the NFC safety position is slim pickings. Brown will always be rememberd for the 2 greatest plays of the 2001 season in back-to-back weeks against SF and Claveland. I will NEVER forget that. But for this season, I will definitely remember his shot on Marcus Pollard. WOW! -
QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Just noticed that while Pierre did pop out, he must have worked the pitch count pretty well because he knocked out the pitcher (Lian) after one at bat. 120 pitch AB.

I was throwing out names because I am not sure ofthe roster. Perhaps Brown made it because of the lack of talent at safety in the NFC. Anyone think Chris Harris would have been a Pro-Bowler if he started since day 1 and never got hurt? -
