  1. QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) The first highlight in this video is part of the reason Viciedo belongs in right. He has an arm, Rios doesn't. Man, that video is exciting. Sure, it's only a couple plays, but saying the ball jumps off his bat is an understatement. Stoney's laugh on that HR in Seattle says it all. I can't wait to see this play hit every day. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) They even stuck Brian Daubach in the outfield, if memory serves me correctly. We've had our fair share of miscues in the OF over the last decade.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) [/b] Word. I know when I do games the excitement of guys like Hawk and Pat Foley, plus their raw emotions in the course of a game are something that I draw on. No doubt. I try to take things from every broadcaster I listen to. Hawk and Pat are very energetic and exciting for the most part, which is engaging to listeners. I love how Vin Scully can tell a story about any player at any time and the broadcast and make it work. You have to be able to balance a lot of aspects, which is hard to do. Joe Buck, for instance, is bad at everything. I'll take Hawk over Bucks 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) I have no interest in listening to neutral announcers. They bore the s*** out of me. I want some excitement and to feel like we are rooting for the same team. You can be an exciting broadcaster in a neutral setting. Gus Johnson is a prime example. I also really think Mike Tirico does a pretty good job. And if you watch international soccer, there are a lot of great broadcasters.
  4. I'm extremely excited about Chris Sale in the rotation. We've heard only positives about his potential so far. And I love that he has a goal for himself to throw 200 innings. I don't think he'll do it, but I certainly hope he can. He was a workhorse in college but he won't get the quick outs in the bigs as a SP like he did in college against inferior talent. There's no doubting he has ace potential though, which is exciting enough. The goal for him should be 6 innings in every start, which will be tough right off the bat. We have no clue where his endurance is at the moment. But if all goes well, 6 innings then going into Crain/Thornton/Reed in whatever order should be a nice recipe for some W's.
  5. I might be one of Hawk's biggest fans. I first heard him call a game when I was 8 years old and he is the primary reason I majored in broadcasting and am doing play-by-play right now. Hopefully one day people here can rip me for being the Sox TV PbP guy. There is no way they are the worst in the league. Steve Stone alone keeps them out of the bottom five. And I agree with what others have said; what's wrong with being a homer? I want my PbP guy to root for my team.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) firestanbowman.com is available for just 9.99! I'm seriously considernig purchasing that one. Stop being dumb.
  7. 17 minutes left. I'm crossing my fingers for Derek Roy.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) Seems too much to give up for a #5 or #6 dman who is a FA in less than 30 games. They're next year's picks, so that helps. Plus, the Hawks already have core players locked up and their system is loaded with talent and has depth. You can only play so many players. I don't mind the deal. Oduya can give you 20 minutes of TOI, which means less Leddy, Keith and Hammer. Sounds good to me. So now you're splitting time between Keith, Seabrook, Hjamlarsson, Leddy, Olsen, Oduya, O'Donnell, and Montador when he's healthy.
  9. Oduya to the Hawks for a 2nd and 3rd in 2013.

    2012 TV Thread

I've really enjoyed both episodes of Life's Too Short. Liam Neeson last week was amazing. Johnny Depp tonight was great too.
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 09:41 PM) That's a major downgrade. I would agree, but I'm not one to really judge casting negatively before seeing the performance. Heath Ledger changed all this for me.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) So, which players got into a battle on twitter QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) This. Ha. Woops. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22748484/35001166 Fixed above.
  13. This team is ridiculously depressing. With how hot some of the lower seeds are, there's a real possibility this team doesn't make the playoffs. 2012 can f*** off.
  14. Hey look, two pretty mediocre NBA players get into a battle on Twitter: http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22748484/35001166 And I don't necessarily agree that Rose isn't a flashy player. Remember that jizz-worthy reverse dunk at the end of the skills challenge his rookie year? There's just no competition in the ASG and he really probably doesn't give a s***.
  15. I absolutely despise running on the treadmill.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 07:31 AM) I thought Will Smith was attached. Maybe that is old news or a different movie. Maybe Jamie Foxx took his spot. That sucks. Call me a snob but I couldnt even really enjoy REAL STEEL for the mindless flick it was. Will Smith was originally pegged for the lead role but Jamie Foxx was ultimately cast.
  17. The only reason (IMO) why KW can come out and be so blunt about it is because he knows he has JR on his side. There's no doubt about it. It's been pretty clear there was a pretty big divide in the organization and between fans between people on KW's side or on Oz's side. JR obviously made the right choice (again, my opinion) to stick with KW over Ozzie. At the same time, Ozzie made that a very easy choice for Reinsdorf. KW knows he pretty much has the ultimate job security. I've always been a big KW fan, and up until the last year or two, I also loved Ozzie. But I fail to see how you can blame KW for Dunn and Peavy's failures. Rios, probably, but again, JR had to sign off on that himself. Obviously, I think it's clear this is a make or break year for KW. The thing is, the Sox, outside of 2007, have been just not-bad-enough to really warrant any major backlash. Last season was a bunch of talented players underachieving. This season, if the Sox are really bad, like many think they will be, he very well could be fired. However, I'm of the thinking that they'll be mediocre enough to keep KW around and see what he can do next offseason with some more money off the books. Either that, or this team will heavily exceed expectations.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 12:52 PM) I mainly just agree with those who say the team will suck then I add a few shots on Dunn, Rios, Peavy and Kenny. I rarely bring it up, I just pile on. So what you've just admitted is that you are a worthless poster who agrees with the majority and tosses in a pot-shot whenever you possibly can. I applaud you.
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) I just have to: take THAT greg. Unbelievable.
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 25, 2012 -> 11:40 PM) Elaborate for us lazy folks. Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx are the 3 main characters from what I understand. Samuel L Jackson, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell, Joseph Gordon Leavitt, James Remar, Don Johnson, Kerry Washington all also have roles.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) Your browser does not support iframes. There's something very unique about how Dunn goes about things. I kinda get the sense there are two ways to look at this: 1) He's extremely confident in what he's done throughout the course of his career, what he knows is tried and true, and something was very wrong behind the scenes in 2011 that attributed to a lot of his failures. OR 2) He's just extremely lazy, doesn't really care, and is just going to go out there and do his own thing, no matter what. I think Dunn either has another crap season in 2012 or he comes out and has a monster, prime-Adam Dunn season. I just can't see anything in the middle happening. We know he has insane power. We know the guy can draw walks like none other. And we know he's also going to strike out a ton. Hopefully he can just get his mind right and go out there and do what we brought him in to do. Maybe less pressure (due to lower team expectations) will help. Remember the good old days? Your browser does not support iframes.
  22. Has anyone seen the cast for Tarantino's Django film? WOW.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) First of all, they didn't double Lin. Chalmers and Cole took him straight up. Then LeBron and Bosh were the flash guys when they tried to run that futile pick n roll that worked against the Raptors. Second, the Heat don't play good defense. They play GREAT defense. The Bulls are really good, too. But there's system defense and then there's the Heat. They play early 90's doberman Bulls defense. Their quickness and athleticism is unparalleled. If you think the Bulls can beat the Heat, fine. I don't have an issue with that. But I don't see how anything that happened last night would have you thinking, "yeah, now I know the Bulls can beat the Heat." I'm not even going to bother. There's nothing that will change your opinion. I don't understand how you can be so hard-headed.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 03:59 AM) Wait a minute. You watched last night's game and feel MORE confident against the Heat? lol. Whatever. They're good. They're not unbeatable, however. FAR from it. The Knicks defense is nothing compared to the Bulls defense. Doubling might work against Lin but Rose isn't going to have the same turnovers and if they do double, he's athletic enough to get around it or move the ball. The Heat play good defense. Awesome, so do the Bulls. I didn't see an invincible team beat the Knicks. The fact that the Knicks hung around that long anyway says a lot. The Heat are easy to beat (in theory). Control the glass, especially their offensive boards, don't let them run, and limit your turnovers.
