QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) How the f*** did Carmelo score 1 point in 30 minutes against the Bobcats? And Bosh looks like Raptors Bosh since Wade's been out. They beat the Cavs by 7 at home. This, after losing to the Bucks at home.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Basically what hes saying is you have no legal obligation to show up. The only risk of blowing it off would be to your reputation. If you get something better, you probably should give them notice and be respectful. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Honest question. I know companies that make interns sign contracts. If this was the case, it'd be more difficult. Think about internships where you're housed, etc. It's business. I think an employer would understand if you pulled out because you were offered a full time job. You run the risk of burning a bridge and obviously you'd be in the wrong if you didn't notify them immediately but beyond notifying them, you wouldn't really have to deal with it. You already have a job. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) If you get an offer you can always try and leverage the internship into a job if they really want to keep you. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) That's what I would suggest, tell them (in a more professional, thought out manner): I really appreciate your offer but I have been offered a fulltime position elsewhere. I really do want to work at Company A but I have to look out for my career and financial standing, so if it is at all possible to match the offer from the other company I would love to stay. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) You'd have nothing to lose by taking this approach. Gotcha. Thanks for the tips guys. Ya, I figured the only thing that would that it might hurt my reputation some, which is kind of a big deal in the sportscasting industry, but I think it'd be understandable. The internship is paid with a small monthly stipend and any full time job would likely pay quite a bit more. I want to get into play by play and it's one of those things where you need to do a broadcasting internship and be the #2 guy in order to work your way up. It's a pretty unique scenario. With that said, if something better came up, I'd definitely let them know immediately and not drag it out. They went through a process just to hire me, wouldn't want them to have to do the whole thing all over again last minute. But lots of time until May.

Gordon Beckham is tweeting about the State of the Union Address or whatever political thing is on TV right now if anyone cares. -
All Star break coming at the right time for the Blackhawks. Leddy and Hjalmarsson suck again.

QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) Did you sign a contract? I take this is a sarcastic was of making a point? If not, then no, I did not.

Question: I accepted a broadcasting/media relations position (an internship) the other day. I don't start until May though. What if another opportunity comes up? Say, I get offered a full time position somewhere else in my field? Is it totally out of the question to blow off the internship and take the better offer? I plan on continuing the job search. This is all new to me as a college grad.

They were 4th in runs scored last season, bottom half in runs given up. Solution: spend $214 million on another DH.

This is silly. Things ALWAYS go as planned in baseball. Like the 2011 Red Sox and Phillies.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) Um, OK? Most of those guys either got hurt or traded. And Carmona doesn't even count, as that's not his real name. Have Verlander, Cabrera or Fielder spent any time on the DL? Leyland + Verlander is an injury waiting to happen. Are you kidding me?

No opt put clauses in the deal, per Jim Bowden.

This f***ing pisses me off because all my friends are Tigers fans. Way to ruin my day.

Berdych had set point, 15-40, on Nadal's serve, up 6-5 in the first. And Nadal saved it with what might be the best point of the tournament so far. Then comes back to win the game. Tiebreak time.

Little help for my Baseball class....
SoxFan1 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 03:29 AM) So I am taking a Spring Training Reporting class this semester. I am a Telecommunications major, and it's pretty heavy on the journalism part. We are driving down to Florida for spring training, and doing a bunch of multimedia stuff on stories. Whether it be text articles, audio slideshows, video projects, or anything of that sort. We are currently in the process of getting story ideas, and particularly of players. Anyway, I was just wondering if you guys knew of any intriguing minor leaguers with good stories to tell. We should be getting press passes to interview players, but we are much more likely to target prospects and minor leaguers who have more time on their hands and are probably more open than the seasoned veterans and superstars. We have obviously listed names of players who have ties to Indiana, either by living here, playing for the Indianapolis Indians, going to a college in Indiana, or anything of that sort. But apart from those obvious, we are looking for other stories. Maybe a career minor leaguer who is considering giving up on his dream. Or maybe a kid who graduated with a good degree and is using it as a fall-back plan in case baseball doesn't work out. Something to that effect maybe. Any ideas? What school do you go to and do they offer grad classes? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:53 PM) Really, there's no doubt. We have Rip and Asimov is developing into a bench beast. The key is this Deng injury. ?

Per Deadspin: From Jan 7-Jan 18, the 11 PM ET SportsCenter showed a total of 13.5 minutes of NHL programming. In 12 HOURS of total air time, the NHL was shown for 13.5 minutes. In the middle of the regular season.

Federer got off to a good start but DelPo broke and is serving to tie the first set at 4. Fed's serve looks as good as ever. EDIT: Eh, DelPo had 2 good chances (4-4, 1st set and 3-5 2nd set w/ break point) to turn the match around and couldn't convert on either. DelPo didn't serve all that well and when he did get Federer to give him a short ball, he did nothing with it. Federer played pretty damn well.

Bulls 7-0 when Rip scores > 10 points. Anyone else kinda getting similar vibes to last season? We started off so well without Boozer and played great with guys banged up. We've only had a hand full of games so far with a 100% Rose/Rip/Deng/Boozer/Noah.
-
Rip with 22 and 10 assists. What a great addition so far.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) Noah put up a double double last year in the one game he played vs. NJ. He had 21 double doubles in 48 games.
-
Still promising to see. If he was playing poorly people would be down his throat. Just picking out another positive.
-
Noah playing much better. 16 and 10 in 26 minutes.

Uh, Rose looks pretty good so far.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:32 PM) I dont see Nadal not making the semifinals. Everyone talked about him having a down year when he made 3 finals and won one last year. The question will be what adjustments he made for djokivic. He's apparently switched to a heavier racket head. The bigger question would be if his shoulder/knees hold up. The man had an incredible, incredible season last year. Going 0-6 or 0-7 or whatever it was against Djokovic in finals is tough though.
