QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Really? His hitting has tailed off this season. I'm aware, but, ya know....Greg Walker....

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) I thought this was especially interesting considering the current White Sox fan debate over coaching. From espn.com: Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has lost faith in Rasmus, in part for his tendency to use outside coaching help for his hitting. This actually makes me want to get Rasmus more.

OMFG OMAR

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) I'd be THRILLED at adding a premium, young, cost-controlled talent like Rasmus at the cost of a pitching enigma that we're going to lose after this season anyway and a 35-year old reliever who will no longer be the bargain he's been starting next year. This team needs young talent that it can control multiple years like I need this six-pack of MGD I'm about to destroy. I agree with 100% of this post.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) You wonder why STL wants to deal Rasmus, Jay is 2-2 with 2 walks so far today with Holliday and Berkman he is the odd man out for much needed pitching. Rasmus is 2-3 with a HR, a BB and 2 R.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Hmmm yeah......... Coming into 2011, Adam Dunn was one of the most consistent players in baseball. Hmmm yeah.........
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) I read it, he did that once! We want consistency, again if we get the dude in a nice package go for it He's been in the MLB for 382 games and is 24 years old. These things take time.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) You have to wonder why a team would give up a guy like Rasmus if he was anything near a sure thing. Usually young hyped up guys who get traded wind up be dissappointments. See Young, Delmon. Delmon Young has a .826 OPS last season and is still 25 years old.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) Yeah, Rasmus has so much value based on age? What has he done or proven to have so much worth? Why do many here have him in so high regard? And to be clear if we got him I wouldn't mind but even if Jackson is a rental for them you still have to play them being desperate You obviously chose not to read the line about the .860 OPS as a full-time CF at age 23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) I'd agree with you except for around this time of year...and in this pitching market...were you to make it known these two were available, I think you could do better...there aren't many SP's on the market with sub-4 ERAs and not many southpaw relievers throwing 96 out there right now... What team (realistically) could give us more for Jackson than Rasmus?
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Rasmus isn't worth both of them, they would have throw in miller or martinez Ya, that's absolutely not going to happen. Whether you like it or not, Rasmus still has a LOT of value. Guys who put up .860 OPS at age 23 in CF don't grow on trees. Jackson would be a rental and Thornton is 35 and making good money. The 2 of them for Rasmus not only frees up a lot of money, but it also gives you a cornerstone to build around for a long time that you can pair with the big Cuban guy you have sitting in AAA. The Sox would be dealing from an area of strength where they have a surplus (and valid replacements) to improve (potentially long-term) an area of weakness. Not many GM's in the league, if any, would hesitate moving Jackson/Thornton for Rasmus.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) GMAB man, the Cardinals have been thought have a bottom of the league system almost every year. They occasionally pull out a couple of pieces but then they're gone before they get to the big leagues, a-la the Mulder trade or the Holliday trade. Winner.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) This is the benefit of a minor league system worth a damn. They develop Rasmus, who was considered among the league's top prospects, then several years later produce another player to supplant him. And now, they have the luxury of dealing a player they don't need for several pieces to help them contend. Uh, Jon Jay isn't really that good.
-
Jackson/Thornton for Rasmus, then Quentin to ATL for Beachy makes a lot of sense. Sox get a lot younger and a lot more affordable.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Keys to the season as I see them: Seabrook (and to a lesser extent Keith) rebounding from last year's struggles How Kane's wrist responds to surgery Two younger goalies, no veteran backup Keeping that idiot Carcillo far from the ice I see it as the opposite actually, where Keith needs to step up way more than Seabrook. Keith was awful at times last year. Hopefully he's rested up and in good condition once the season starts. The nice part is that the added depth on the blue line, hopefully, will prevent him from playing an insane amount of minutes per game. That's the biggest key by far for me. Our offense, while sometimes inconsistent, wasn't the problem last year. If the D plays like it should, it takes a lot of the pressure off Crawford to be Crawesome every night, and everything from then on is gravy.
-
I gotta give it to Stan, his offseason has been phenomenal. Like many others, outside of the Carcillo signing, I love just about every move. That Frolik/Bolland/Bickell line is ridiculously fun to watch on both ends of the ice. Lepisto is a nice depth signing as well. I liked him in PHX. Just a solid dman. Our roster looks pretty much set, with Bowman going into the season with about 3.1 million left in cap space. Kane Toews Brunette Smith Sharp Hossa Frolik Bolland Bickell Mayers Kruger Olesz Keith Seabrook Montador Hjalmarsson Leddy O'Donnell Crawford Salak Extra skaters: Lepisto, Carcillo, Stalberg

Fast & Furious was surprisingly good. Now I have to find a way to watch Fast Five ASAP.

Watched Road to Perdition today. Forgot how much I loved that movie. Hadn't seen it in a long time.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) I love Sporcle with a regular keyboard, but does it translate well to a phone? QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) Annoying It can be annoying on occasion with obscure names or spellings, but the auto-fill normally does the trick.
-
Sources are saying that Frolik will indeed be at the Blackhawks convention this weekend, which is a good sign that a deal could be done. EDIT: Done SOON, that is.

CSN is awesome.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) There were some pretty cool ones listed, thanks guys. Any just dumb little apps you know of, too? Something that's worth a laugh once or twice, serves no real purpose? Demotivational Posters is EXACTLY that app. Hilarious stuff. Other good apps: Sporcle Word With Friends Cash Cab

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) I remember being excited to graduate and then having a terrible terrible sadness creep over me as we packed. It was unbelievably depressing. I stayed another 4 months to do some grad work at school and it was pretty sad just knowing it was over. However, the fun doesnt stop, its actually just beginning. Working sucks, but the money doesnt. PLus you have much more freedom as you get a job, a new place and move on. The mid 20s are pretty awesome. Worst part about it is that I have another semester before I graduate in December. My 2 best friends, one I lived with for all 4 years and the other for 3, are both done and gone. I'm excited to graduate from classes, but I'm not excited about graduating from college, if you know what I mean. I've had this lingering depression for the last 3 months since school was about over and walking out of my apartment for the final time and hugging my friends goodbye was awful. Didn't help that I was getting all kinds of tweets and facebook messages about how awesome our place was and how many people partied there. As far as the future, working shouldn't suck for me with the field I'm in but you the uncertainty is scary. At this point next year, I haven't the SLIGHTEST clue about where I will be working, if anywhere at all. I look forward to being free of classes though.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) Love that Stalberg is back. One of my favorite players. You're the first non-female I've ever heard say that.
