QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) pats got chad ochocinco For a 6th and a 7th. Restructured his deal too. He'll probably have a 1000 yard season. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) 1.) I hope you are ready for a long rebuild. Are you going to follow the Sox if they get rid of everybody and suck like the Royals for 5-6 years? Quentin is our second best hitter. 2.) This. CQ should be part of our future plans. Too bad our GM can't make creative trades or steal players of value once in a while. Trading Quentin leaves a gaping hole in the lineup for some time to come. Are you serious? You can't be. You simply can't be. Not when we're talking about CARLOS QUENTIN.

QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Only tweet I can find on Twitter is the Brewers sending a catching prospect to the Braves for cash considerations. Anyone else most up to date info? It's Will Nieves. And he was traded for a single dollar. No prospect.

It's probably Ludwick, if anyone. It's just a random kid's twitter.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) I'm not that interested in Minor. His big trait is "pitchability" and while that can work out, I like guys with dazzling stuff, especially if Quentin is as in demand as is being hinted at. Minor is a lot like Buehrle from a stuff perspective. I don't know whether Minor will have the ridiculous ability to locate and keep guys off balance, like Buehrle has. Straight fastball, good slider, good control, won't top 92. Continuously working on his changeup and slider.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) If the Phillies are offering Brown AT ALL for Quentin, KW needs to immediately agree and sign whatever needs to be signed. The problem seems to be that the Phillies #1 target is Pence, while the Quentin is #1 on the Braves radar.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) What if you're not doing a sell-off, and more looking at how you can compete next few years. Would you want to get out of that 42 million dollar obligation we have with him from '12-'14? My answer would be Hell Yes you let him go, as you would figure that the older he gets, the less productive he'll be. I'd much rather move Rios than Dunn. The way I see it, Konerko is going to be here for the duration of his deal. As long as he's here, you have to protect him with something. This is my thinking, which I think would be in line with the line of thinking of KW/JR, if that makes sense. I like Dunn's chances of being good again FAR more than Rios'.

I read earlier that the Rangers are nearing a deal for Heath Bell.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) Interesting...saw him pitch last year against Cubs and he looked dynamite. However, I think if you're trading Quentin, you have to get a lot more than him. From my buddy: i've seen a lot more of his games than most, and i can safely say i have never, ever, ever in my life seen a pitcher with stuff as bad as his be successful at the major leaguye level

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) Interesting...saw him pitch last year against Cubs and he looked dynamite. However, I think if you're trading Quentin, you have to get a lot more than him. Apparently Teheran and Vizcaino are untouchable. Which leaves Minor and Delgado.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) I could see the Sox going after Minor and another prospect Stay away from Minor. Braves fans dislike him. 90 mph fastball straight as an arrow.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) That would be excellent, but here's my question: would you unload him and his contract if someone claimed him off of waivers? QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) In a heart beat. If you're doing a massive sell-off at the deadline, yes.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) Dale Murphy says hello. There has got to be serious concerns about his bat speed/power decrease. There is not. He'll hit again.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) Drake already lobbying to bring him in. There's simply way too many connections. Martz and Marinelli were in Detroit for his best years, plus, I believe Drake and Williams have some college connections. I wouldn't mind it for the right price. Hopefully Martz could re-ignite the spark. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Boston is a team I hadn't heard was interested yet. I don't see a deal happening with Pittsburgh, however, they've been "re-building" for two decades. Maybe they have some good stuff going on in their farm system. Does anyone know about that? As far as the Braves and Phillies, I would imagine if a deal were to happen, it'd be with one of them. I'm torn about trading Quentin. I suppose I'd be happy with a huge haul. But if KW trades him for less than he's worth (and right now he's worth a lot to certain teams), I won't be happy. I'd take Jameson Taillon for Quentin.

I'm not really understanding why you guys are down my throat. I'm not freaking out yet, simply a little disappointed that we haven't been as active as we initially thought. There is still obviously a lot of time and a lot of players left on the market. Just a lack of urgency that is a little puzzling. Then again, as you've said, I'd rather have them avoid overpaying guys. Thought I like Rice and Babin nonetheless. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) That's a lot of damn money for a special teams ace when you have a pretty good amount of holes to fill. The Bears have been extremely successful filling out special teams within the organization and draft. Jason Babin played for 4 teams in 4 years (is 31 years old) while accomplishing nothing before going off for a big year. Sidney Rice has been on the field for one year and received 18 million guaranteed. I wouldn't have classified either of those signings as wise for the Bears given their current situation. I would certainly consider Bushrod a miss since he plays you know a position the Bears are actually actively looking to address. Are you saying the Bears are not looking to address the d-line or the WR position? -

I wouldn't have classified either of those signings as wise for the Bears given their current situation. Their current situation is that they have 35 million to spend. Babin would have been a great pickup, especially paired with Peppers. Then you can move Idonije back inside, re-sign Adams and voila, you're d-line is elite. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) If you have to sign 5 big free agents, your team is already screwed. Watch how many free agents the Patriots, Colts and Packers sign this year. Packers are going to lose a number of players. The Pats just got Albert Haynesworth. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Jason Babin is a 1 year wonder of a DE - unwise Sidney Rice grossly overpaid 1 good year as a WR - unwise Brad Smith 4 catches last year. Durant is a potential loss but they may prefer Roach competing for a starting job for the price. I don't see how they are missing out on anyone they actually wanted for the prices they got... Any DE who can register 13 sacks knows what he's doing, and with Marinelli, it'd have been a wonderful fit. Sidney Rice is a stud. Period. Brad Smith is not a WR, he's a special teams ace. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Bills reach agreement with former Jets WR Brad Smith on a 4-yr, $15 million deal. I'll once again say I'm glad we "missed out"... Eh, he wasn't going to be a WR anyway. Not a horrible contract for an elite special teamer. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) I definitely did not read anything to that effect, but I could give a f*** about losing a guy who gets 18 million guaranteed and has had one good year under his belt (while Favre was playing extremely well at QB). That would be the epitome of unwise spending for the Bears right now. Check the edit of my post. They've lost out on Rice, Babin, Smith and Durant. And if they were after Moss or Holmes, the both of them too.
