Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.
SoxFan1 replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Please God no on Frank Thomas. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 08:55 AM) Got Adjustment Bureau out of Redbox over the weekend. I can't remember who recently praised it, but thanks! It was a great show. You're welcome. I absolutley loved it. Anywho, The Trip was fun. I didn't love it though. It had its funny moments and I loved all the impressions, but as someone said, the ending was abrupt and in general, it was kind of depressing. Transformers 3 was awesome. I don't give a s*** what you say or how much you hate it, those movies are entertaining as all hell. I've got Thor and X-Men: First Class coming tomorrow. Now, to the important stuff: HAS NO ONE ELSE SEEN PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3??????

Lenny Pepperbottom. That's pretty neat!

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) Some site had Floyd going as high as #2 last week. I don't see that happening unless he has an incredible combine. Either way, it's way too early to be thinking about the draft. Guys draft stocks rise and fall a ton between now and the draft. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Unfortunately, I am not sure a game breaking WR would fall to the Bears. Blackmon, Jeffery, and Floyd will all be first rounders, with a couple other guys who are fringe 1/2 like Broyles. I'd say there's a good chance Floyd could fall to the Bears assuming their somewhere in the middle of the pack. I'm also a fan of AJ Jenkins. If Floyd was available to them and they passed, I think it'd be a huge mistake. I think Floyd is going to be an elite NFL WR. -

Suh didn't do a whole lot against the Bears. And he didn't do a whole lot today. I'm sorry, but I've seen every Lions game this year because of my damn roommate, and he isn't NEAR the impact player he is made out to be. Does he get double teamed often? Sure. But for all the hype Williams and Fairley get in the middle as well, they don't put much pressure from there as they do on the ends, and they sure as s*** don't stop the run. -

I'm so glad the 49ers ended the f***ery that is the hype around the Lions. They can't run the ball, their offensive line is not good, and when they aren't throwing lob passes to Calvin Johnson when a team foolishly has him single-covered, they aren't a very good team. Their front four on defense is good, sure, but they still can't stop the run and Ndamakong Suh is incredibly overrated. I look forward to playing them at Soldier Field later this year. Hopefully the Bears can build on this game (especially the oline) and take it to London next week and give it to the Bucs. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) That looks WILD. I have The Trip and Transformers 3 coming in the mail tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

I like the stand up comedians idea.

The Rock got paid a lot of money to play the lead role in Faster and probably had about a dozen lines to remember. Good for him. Decent action flick. Kept me entertained. Also saw Unknown recently. It was alright, kind of hard to follow at times and a unexpected ending.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) I'd love to hear your argument as to why you don't consider Lovie a good coach because he clearly is. 56% winning percentage, two NFC championship game appearances and a Super Bowl appearance despite having terrible offensive personnel his entire tenure with the Bears.l This is sarcastic, right? I just want to be sure. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) I admit to being wrong all the time. Speaking of Tex dropping in to be condescending, that's also your MO. Open your eyes dude.
-
It could be worse, we could have Quade or Leyland as our manager.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) Haha, alright. There has also been a midget player. You deliberately made an argument that was intended to make it seem that this type of thing happens and isn't uncommon. It's obvious to anyone who is reading the thread. I'm not going to argue with you, though, as you always do this. You'll harp on the smallest of things and will never admit to being wrong. We all can't be like you. You're never wrong, so you don't have to admit to anything.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) So Im trying to plan a spring break trip for a bunch of seniors, and we thought South Padre Island, TX would be awesome to go to, so I found a great place on the beach for a reasonable price but when I emailed them for more details they said if we need a parent present, even though all of us would be 21. Im trying to keep the costs low, and renting a house seems like the best choice, but any ideas on how to convince them or alternatives for us? Weird. I went to South Padre this past Spring Break and we never had that problem. A lot of the places would request that all people staying are over 21, but I never heard of having a parent present. That's just odd. If you want me to link you to the place I stayed (beautiful condo, slept 7 I believe) shoot me a PM. I had a blast there.

And before anyone says anything, we DO NOT want The Big Hurt as our hitting coach. Trust me.
-
I quit.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) I love how people are stretching this much. Since neither has managed a professional team, they're equally as experience. Never mind the fact that one has been the right-hand man for a manager for years. It's like having two guys work in the mail room of a company for about 15 years. One somehow retires while the other works his way up to vice president of the company. When there is an opening for president, the mail room guy is hired because they both have the same amount of experience at running a company. And to say that the more important hiring is that of the hitting and bench coaches doesn't even make sense. The most important hiring is the manager, plain and simple. He was hired as Rays bench coach in 2007. It's not like he's been there forever. Baines has been a coach for us since 2004 and he's won more WS than Maddon and Martinez. Why not hire him? For f***s sake, everyone fell in love with Martinez and went gaga over him. Sure, he's a great candidate but it doesn't mean he'll be a great manager.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) No I'm not crying just voicing my displeasure. And I can point you to an article earlier in this thread that ripped apart this godawful move. If you're referring to the Yahoo one, then you're referring to a blog post, not an article.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) But somehow you're ok with hiring someone who's never done anything remotely close to what he's being asked to do? Yes. Being a manager isn't about X's and O's. Do you not think Robin Ventura has a good grasp of the game of baseball?
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) being mentored by a fantastic coach and being involved in a well run organization that is doing really well each year with a lousy payroll, while competing in the best division in baseball vs a guy who hung out with his kids for 8 years Yeah, that's the same. *rolls eyes* When you have the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft for 10 years, you're likely to get some talent out of it. There's no guarantee that just because he was Joe Maddon's "protege" he's going to be a great manager. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:30 PM) Ventura is so far over his head....................he could not even answer some basic questions. I can't piss without consulting KW. Puppet show 101. I am not being negative just a realist. If you say so. I'll reserve judgment until, you know, he actually starts his job.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) Mike Quade spent 20 years managing in the minors. Thank you.
-
I want to say I'm shocked with the negativity surrounding this hiring, but then again, this is SoxTalk. On the face of it, I like it. Would I have liked Dave Martinez, sure? But he has just as much managerial experience as Ventura. Like others have said, this isn't football or basketball. He'll be just fine so long as he has a good coaching staff around him. Honestly, the more important hiring will be the hitting and bench coaches. It's too early to tell if this is a good hire or not. He hasn't managed a damn game yet.

8 games for Brendan Smith. 3 preseason and 5 regular season. Of course, when he gets sent to the Griffins, it won't matter. Babcock said the suspension was extreme. Of course he did.
