  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) He's history's greatest monster! Carter or LCR?? I miss Apu
  2. Wow, LCR would love the Gonzo memorial artist's proof.
  3. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) The only reason I drank it was because it was free. Very, very strong though. Strong tasting, yes, and distilled usually up to 150 proof so high alcohol out of the bottle (some brands are lower, and historically many brands were lower). But if you drank it in the traditional manner you would have diluted it somewhere between 3:1 and 5:1 with cold water, so that cuts the absolute strength of the drink way down. I absolutely love the louche effect - the clouding of the drink when the water is added. I just wish i enjoyed the flavor of the drink a little more, because the preparation ritual is quite neat. I have been getting into New Orleans sazarac cocktails, a rye whiskey drink that starts with a chilled glass coated with a bit of absinthe or Pernod that is then discarded before the rest of the ingredients are added. It leaves just a hint of the absinthe flavor to complement the rest of the flavors. Historically, the sazarac cocktail may be the first American cocktail, so if there are any budding urban anthropologists out there you should give this one a spin.
  4. New socks. . . yeah baby! a good mai tai. . . yeah baby! hella hot thai food. . . yeah baby! a perfect pint of Guinness. . . yeah baby! a steaming plate of crawfish in the French Quarter. . . yeah baby! camping on a crisp night. . . yeah baby! good seats and a hotdog on opening day. . . yeah baby!
  5. I agree on absinthe being overrated, although I'm not a huge fan of anisette flavored licquers. If you do it the traditional way with the sugar cube and maybe 4 parts cold water to one part absinthe it's drinkable, although not my favorite. On the other hand, 6 drops of absinthe or Pernod (or herbsaint) in any cocktail containing dark rum does an amazing job of opening up the flavors in the drink. That's an old Don the Beachcomber trick and it's worth keeping a bottle around for.
  6. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) They never buy anything, the bus drops them off and they wander the store, drooling and blocking the aisles. Sounds like Dawn of the Dead.
  7. That Jagermeister stuff is just about the most vile concoction ever made. It seems almost every evening discussed on here that involves the stuff ends up with puking and a horrible hangover. I avoid that cr@p like the liquid plague it is, and I am much the better for it.
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) Actually a couple friends swear that they arent a fan of them but I only mentioned it because of the other thread. Then maybe you are doing it wrong. I Kid because I Care®
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Since when did watching one of the best shows in the history of television become a guilty pleasure? Thanks, and i agree. But I get raised eyebrows whan I cop to it in certain social circles. Friggin' elitists.
  10. I religiously watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it was on, and i rewatched the entire series when it came out on DVD. I think it was better written than 95% of the stuff that makes it to tv.
  11. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 04:32 AM) IT took me roundly four clicklys nto get into thi thead! Someone told me tonight that apparently advik( (or aspirin) ius bad for you after you drink and can kill you? I thought it was good becauwse it things your blood faster. Can some clean tis up po favo? Cool - you were drunk in two languages!
  12. I've never seen a single episode of Lost or 24, and I never plan on seeing any. I can't stand reality shows.
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) Jermaine is certainly better than Brett. Brett doesn't really add much to the show for me personally. I haven't seen any season 2 episodes yet, but in general I think Brett is great. There is subtlety in his delivery that makes some of his lines hilarious to me.
  14. The old van I had in C-U at college, I didn't even bother trying to turn it over in January of February because it was a lost cause.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) How much money would that be? Story said $10K, but that sounds way low for 30lbs.
  16. Putting a good dent a my bottle of Rhum Clement VSOP, and the El Dorado 5 year, Appletons Reserve, and Mount Gay Eclipse are coming along for the ride. Hooray Rum!!
  17. QUOTE (onedude @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) My little brother had his phone in his mouth, glass in one hand, sandwich in the other walking down the stairs of my house. He dropped it right in his glass. Then like a week later he had his phone on his glass, it was narrow enough, and he jerked and it fell right in. Does your little brother ride the short bus to school in the morning?
  18. QUOTE (onedude @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) i think whenever possible(if at all) find a way to put a lid on your glass. Me and a few different friends have dropped phones in full glasses. I tend to drink bottles a lot more now. My little brother did it twice in 1 week. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) yeah everytime I see that happen I can't contain the laughter. It isn't the act, but the reaction after they realized what happened. So, this happens a lot - the dropping phones into beer glasses thing?? Man, I feel like such an amateur drinker now.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) Too bad it was posted on Jan 1, 2009 and isn't eligible. Well, then we might as well shut down for the rest of the year because it won't get better than that.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) The worst for me was Jan and Feb 07 down at U of I. Weeks of temperatures in the single digits or lower and a good 20 minutes one way to class. I usually had on long underwear, jeans, thick thermal socks, boots, two t-shirts, a long sleeve shirt, a sweatshirt, my winter jacket, gloves, a hat and a scarf. And I was still cold. I always sort of liked the cold winter walks to class, even though after I graduated I decided to chuck the cold weather and move south.
  21. QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) So apparently his wife also filed for divorce the day before the flight because he was sleeping around. Meanwhile, his wife is very attractive...at least in the picture on the Today show. And his stepfather whom he was close to had just died as well. Sounds like the whole world had just fallen apart on him in a short span. . . not that he didn't bring the bulk of it on himself.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) Alright then, explain this: I just watched and posted the original commercial in which he says "SOFT Corinthian leather" so why in the hell did I post SMOOTH??? Am I just a moron? I think you just answered your own question.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) I wanna be Mr. Irrelevant Sorry, did you say something? Gage's Penis is the thread of the year, so everything else is mere formality.
