NY Times calls for Attorney General's dismissal.
FlaSoxxJim replied to Rex Kickass's topic in The Filibuster
One important new wrinkle for Abu G. The latest Justice document dump includes an email that directly contradicts Gonzo's so carefully parsed written testimony that was published this past weekend: If they just begin the questioning on that point and go from there, letting Gonzo try to reconcile all the conflicting storylines under oath, then we may see the sort of legal jeopardy ABC's Paul Kiel suggested we'd see: Adit to add: More info on the email from Sampson that conflicts with the written testimony: So, my question: If Gonzo is asked to read his written testimony into the record under oath on Thursday, and it turns out the Sampson email is corroborated, wouldn't that constitute perjury? -
33 Dead After Virginia Tech University Shooting
FlaSoxxJim replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in SLaM
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) Has that been suggested somewhere in the coverage? I feel like I missed something. It was floated at a press conference about an hour ago. The chief of campus police i think was just awaiting ballistics results to conclusively make the connection, but they also were not yet publicly ruling out a second shooter. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Listening to the coverage it appears that the first incidence was almost a classic domestic murder, and really no way tit foreshadowed the second. It also seems that it may turn out to be two different tragedies, linked only by time and location. I've been careful not to blame the authorities for not going full lockdown and such after the first incident. But if it turns out these were unrelated and they had a person of interest in the first incident and then released him, then they really did screw up. -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) LINK: http://www.boingboing.net/2007/04/15/are_c...ones_killi.html Holy cr@p. I read a short communication about this maybe a year ago but had no idea of the potential magnitude of the problem. Holy cr@p. Edit to add that there is skepticism over this matter, so maybe only a lower case holy cr@p is in order fo now. . .

Wild, and maybe fitting, that he and Hart went out at the same time. I personally wish their strips would end as well, or better yet go into perpetual reruns like Schultz' Peanuts. Family or no, the next generation to take on a strip tends to be lackluster at best and gawdawful at worst.

Bush wants a "War Czar" for Iraq, Afghanistan
FlaSoxxJim replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) It's over and done with, as we are there today, right or wrong. So now, it makes it ok to just bust ass out of there as fast as we can? I just can't buy that mindset, but boy, it sure makes it easy on people who think that way. The Rule of Holes applies here: When you realize you're in one, stop digging. 80% of Iraqis oppose occupation and want the US to set a timetable for withdrawal. 60% of Iraqis think US soldiers are acceptable as the targets of violent opposition to the occupation. We're doing little to stop the sectarian violence, and the people who warn of apocalyptic consequences if we withdraw are the same ones who predicted flowers and candy when we went in. They have been wrong about everything to date, so what are the chances they are right about this? If the majority of the people doing most of the dying think they would be better off with us gone, I think we should pay soem attention to them. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) Really? I wanted us to never go to war with Iraq so I didn't get EXACTLY what I wanted. ^^^^ The "Well we're there now, so let's just move forward" wingnut mantra was tired four years ago and it's tired now. It was a mistake to begin the war then and it's a mistake to perpetuate it with no plan or direction now. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) I hope its not as simple as that. What explanation could make it any better? This is a horror I can't even grasp yet. I've been away from my desk all day and logged on to see this thread and I'm in disbelief. -

Tony may or may not get killed. Paulie on the other hand, I've been waiting six years for him to go and his days are definitely numbered.

Aloha, Don. Alas, you can now enjoy your eternal rest while I'm stuck here with friggin' Tiny Bubbles probably going through my head all night now.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) Speculation as to where this will lead? Obviously it is a sign that we've turned another corner in Iraq and that the situation on the ground continues to improve.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) What would you do today if you knew you could not fail? Powerball Lotto.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxFan1 @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) for a second....who cares about her. How should I myself act tonight. I shouldnt show her that im totally interested right? Above all else, don't tell her anything about the earthen pit in your basement.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) It's OK I speak jive (old guy) Try and get laid by 10PM, if it doesn't work, dump her, call your buddies, and hang out. End FlaSoxxJim translation. I'm with Queen and Soxy. She's having great sex this week. Possibly with you, but probably with her old boyfriend. And after they have that great sex, they're going to be talking about you and what a loser you are. Sadly, what this really means is you are a genuinely nice guy, other girls will be fixing you up because they think you are a great catch, but they themselves don't want to go out with you. Finally, you will find the needle in the haystack and discover your better half and live happily ever after. But it ain't with her. CRI-MIN-EEE! Tex needs to buy a new Old Guy translation book. The girl is 18 and is not all that sure what she wants. She started dating the other guy at 16 and that is in all likelihood the only serious relationship she has had so far in her life. There is comfort in knowing/thinking you might get back together with that first big long-term love after a split because it's all you know. And sex is the last thing I'd be concerned with until y'all find out what you really think of each other. Don't listen to the Bozos and go have a good time.

Nice knowing you, pal. I Kid Because I Care® Hunker down, stay safe and all that.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) Yeah, but you're a "weird" old guy. This is true.
-
She's a bald-faced liar, and not a particularly good one, but dang with the new hairstyle that Dana Perino is a cutie. I feel so dirty. . . From her Wiki entry: Ms. Perino is most widely known for having a dulcet voice that makes her lies sound sexy.
-
Well, here's one old guy that isn't saying run. Not saying get down on a knee and propose either, mind you. Go out and see how much you enjoy each other, simple as that. She may be telling you how it's all likely she's getting back with her old boyfriend, but know that a lot of that may be defensive on her part. She has tempered your expectations as to anything serious developing, but matters of the heart are always negotiable. She can also feel better about herself to think that she is 'on a break' and not that she was unable to keep a relationship together. Self-confidence and security is a tricky thing when you are 18.

NJ Gov injured in hit and run on highway.
FlaSoxxJim replied to Rex Kickass's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) Here's to hoping he gets better. In the heat of the 2005 Governor's election, he blew off a campaign event to watch the White Sox in the playoffs. He's a huge White Sox fan. http://www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...3/NEWS/70413009 The kicker? He was on his way to a meeting between Imus and the Rutgers basketball team when it happened. Hope he makes a rapid and full recovery. -
This wanker says if the World Bank board asks him to resign he will, but I'm not buying it. Here he's being caught in the middle of his second big juicy lie in the past couple weeks.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) You have only known this girl for a week, so dont put the cart before the horse. Just go out tonight and have a good time. The stuff with her ex is going to work itself out one way or another. At this point all you can worry about is yourself. If you get hung up with other stuff the date will tank period. Listen to this man. Every relationship starts with a first date. Some go somewhere, some go nowhere, and everybody brings emotional baggage with them. If you like this person spend some time with her and see where it goes. Be yourself, be honest, and get to know each other. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) get completely hammered and see what happens from there best.advice.evar. There are worse gameplans.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 10:30 AM) I know, I know, it's easy for me to say this behind my keyboard not getting shot at. But, you either have to poop or get off the pot sometime, because the tact taken right now is not working. I agree. And most Americans think it's long-past time to get of the pot, so hopefully the White House is listening. -
