QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) If we are going to have a minimum wage, it should be indexed to inflation with an increase or decrease automatically every year. Hell its good enough for Congress, the Vice President, and the Supreme Court, why isn't good enough for everyone else? They also do it with things like SSI payments, disability benefits etc. Simple as that.

Yes indeed, crow should be eaten. By Santorum, Hoekstra, Fox News, and samclemens. These are the limited, "old, abandoned" weapons we have known about (at least those of us paying attention), since The Iraq Survey Group issued their final report in 2004. [qoute] While a small number of old, abandoned chemical munitions have been discovered, ISG judges that Iraq unilaterally destroyed its undeclared chemical weapons stockpile in 1991. There are no credible indications that Baghdad resumed production of chemical munitions thereafter, a policy ISG attributes to Baghdad’s desire to see sanctions lifted, or rendered ineffectual, or its fear of force against it should WMD be discovered. [/qoute] ISG noted the discovery of the abansoned weapons, AND still declared that the Iraqi stockpile had been destroyed. And again, this news flash comes to you all the way from 2004. Way to break a story, Ricky. And sam, by the "critic in the article," are you referring to the DOD spokesperson?? Funny to see DOD labeled a war critic. Rick looked like he was going to cry a little today when Alan Colms reiterated the DOD spokesman's tempering of the Big Discovery and dismissed all the "Republican chest beating", but in tthe end he got tough again and said he'd wait for an "formal" DOD response. And I'm sure when the "formal" response comes it will sound uncannily like the response the DOD Spokesperson already gave.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) My vote: Old Style. Absolutely awful. Undrinkable. I would rather finish a Pony-Keg of any of the other beers on that list than finish one can of Old Style. Chicago's Beer my ass. Now I'm really curious to know the IBUs (International Bittering Units - the hopping rate) of Old Style compared to the others in the list. I agree there is a balance issue with Old Style, and certainly there is not enough moalt body to hold its own against even a marginal amount of hops. But I wonder if that is it (higher IBUs relative to the American swillsner standard) about people detesting Old Style and my finding it to be tolerable (in an any-port-in-the-storm kind of way). I have to see if that info is published anywhere.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) Elect first woman presiding bishop (in US and Anglican Communion) I think she's a good choice for the Episcopal church, although I'm not sure how this will be seen by the larger Anglican Communion. Seems very grounded (and intellectual, with a PhD in marine biology). General Convention also refuses the proposed halt to electing gay bishops. Overall, very interesting convention (that isn't over yet). It will be very interesting to see how this all pans out--I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Episcopal church kicked out of the Anglican communion in the next 7 years, followed closely by the Canadian Anglican church (I think NZ may also follow). Good to see some of the factions sticking with their priciples, even if it ends up splintering the commmunion.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:26 AM) So wait, now you're willing to admit that there's no crisis that we can't wait to solve? I thought there were 15 million undocumented immigrants here and they were pushing the U.S. to the point of bankruptcy, and we couldn't wait another moment before getting rid of them! It's all about f@gs -n- flags now!!! :banghead -
Kudos, Balta, and a fine choice by the Soxtalk Men of the Square Table.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) How does Budweiser not make this list? Any beer that contains rice is not really beer. On par with Old Style has to be Miller High Life, the chapagne of urine. Beer with rice in it is no worse than beer with corn in it in my book. It's all cheap fermentable adjunct to save on malt. Sure, historically, corn was the adjunct used with American 6-row barley, to cut its harshness and to leverage its high diastatic abilities, but give me a beer with good old Euro 2-row and leave out the adjuncts.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) Oh definately The Beast...............and Blue Moon is def the most overrated beer out there, Blue Moon does an ok job of dumbing down the Belgian witbier style for American palates. But, compared to Hoegarden or Bavic or even some of the American craft renditions, it doesn't even rate.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 12:52 AM) Red White and Blue was left off this list...why? You may not believe it, but PBR and Red, White and Blue are the EXACT same beer, from the exact same recipe, and even canned and bottled off of the same lines at the Milwaukee brewery. I do not know if the procedure is the same at the Olympia brewery. A beer friend sawit with his own eyes on a brewery tour several yeears ago alternating PBR and RWB cans go throgh the same fillers. He asked a technician and he confided that they in ffact are the same beer. They can charge slightly more for PBR for name recognition and because of loyal nostalgia buysers, and the extra money goes into marketing for PBR. Perfect example of the problem of American megabrew – the marketing makes the beer, and not the other way around. As for NUKES poll, I'd certainly go out of my way to avoid pretty much everything on the lst, but of course you can't do that 100% of the time. Case in point, our local gourmet grocery sells a variety of excelleny beers, and they also havve a courtesy keg always tapped for customers to have a beer while shopping. The problem is the courtesy keg is Nattty Light (which, interestingl, they don't even sell!). So, while I agree Natty is fairly vile, how the hell am I going to pass up a chance to drink beer whle shopping for some steaks to BBQ? In general as far as megaswill is concerned, I much preffer regional to national brands, if only for the slight (oh so slight) flavor varieties. Many people will disagree, but I'd prefer Old Style to anything else on the list, if only because there is some flavor distinction and some hopping that is actually approachijng the taste perception threshold. You know, like a real beer. The worst on the list - an admittedly scary list - I'd say are Keystone and Milwaukee's Best. I will make killer brats and gumbo with any of those brands, however.

You do know that you are pissing Tony Snow off by being focused on a couple of kidnapped soldiers, right? At least that's the way he came off on Meet the Press yesterday. At the risk of upsetting Tony further, I share your concern.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) Straight out of the "Its a small world" category of life... OK My Dad's side of the family are Gresham's, and my moms are Lind's, now pay attention as this is kinda important. My mom is a nurse, and has worked at various nursing homes for about 20 years now. The latest place she has been working at, she takes care of a 86 year old second cousin of my dads. My parents divorced over 20 years ago, but my mom kept the Gresham name to minimize problems related to having a different name than her kids. The old guy instantly catches on to the fact that they have the same last name, and they become friends. Saturday mom goes into work, and sees the old guys family with him, so she goes over and introduces himself. She no sooner gets her name out, than the guy's son saids "You are Swede's daughter aren't you?" Swede was the nickname for my grandpa on my moms side (her dad). It turns out that my Grandpa Lind trained this particular Gresham at the South Shore railroad as an electrician on the lines. They worked together for about 15 years, and when my Grandpa retired because of lung cancer, he took over his position as head of the department. Basically the guys who worked the lines were like a family, so he remembered my mom and her two sisters from when they were little, and has a bunch of pictures from working with my Grandpa Lind, plus a bunch of pictures of my Grandpa Gresham, and the rest of that side of the family, and he is going to bring them in next time he visits his dad, for my mom to see. Wild stuff. That is all kinds of cool. Neat when you uncover intertwined generations of families like that.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) How am I suposed to react when somebody tells me that I can't stand up and piss in their house? My boss today told me "When you are in my house, you don't do that s***. You sit down and piss. Those little particles get all over my house and make it smell like s*** when you do that s***" You ask him why his piss smells like s*** and not piss?

Shame on you Kap. When she goes down for a nap it is the obligation of both you and your wife to immediately take naps yourself and try to catch up on that sleep. You never do catch up on it either, btw. She is adorable.
